  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I enjoyed the heck out of the first Iron Man movie! It was absolutely spectacular! Plot was solid, Robert Downey Jr. was incredible, CGI, soundtrack, pacing, just first rate! But the whole thing was RUINED with the ending of that first movie. Tony reveals he's Iron Man, which NEVER happened in the comics, and that really brought the whole thing down the toilet imho. I have read a ton of the original comics, and Tony Stark was always arrogant, brash, and full of it, but he wasn't stupid. In the comics, Iron Man is purported to be Tony's "bodyguard." He knows that if anyone knows his true identity, then every enemy of Iron Man will come after those he loves and cares about as well as his company and life's work. The movie made Tony even more irresponsible and immature than the comics, and the next two movies and the Avengers show his stupid decision to say "I AM Iron Man!" and how it wrecks his life. Goofy. The second IM was watchable, the third movie stunk to high heaven. And it's the Tony story in Avengers 2 that made it stink, too.

I always liked Batman for his intelligence and mind that works like a chess player more than his gadgets. And his enemies are more human. He's someone we can almost relate to. Almost...

I'm with Bruce on this as well...so much better than Iron Man, imho!

Yea, I really liked the first Iron Man, but 2 and 3 really seemed goofy and lowered my opinion of the Iron Man movie series as a whole. I enjoyed the entire series of the latest Batman movie series, from the Batman Begins to the Dark Knight Rises.

I'm with you, sister! I ADORED those three Batman flicks from Christopher Nolan. Brilliant, unpredictable, almost plausible, relevant, fun.

yep, and he is an amazing ensemble when you think about it.

Dracula + Sherlock Holmes + Bruce Lee + Houdini + Einstein + ninja + The Man with No Name + samurai...... = Batman.

Just watched the new Star Wars - episode VII is it?

Maybe I'm getting a bit cynical about movies, but it didn't seem to have any of the heart and spirit of the first ones, even though many of the same elements (and even same actors) were there. Maybe there's a bit TOO MUCH of same. It's like a shadow of the original. Meh ...

No, you're not being cynical. It's called TASTE. That movie smelled like a locker room full of jock straps at the end of a playoff run. I was extremely disappointed, but not one bit surprised when JJ "Clueless" Abrams gets involved. He's a disaster waiting to happen.

LOL

I love reading your film commentary, Gurney. Granted, our film taste seems to coincide like 85% of the time.....but even when it doesn't, I appreciate your viewpoint

Oh, nothing specific comes to mind at the moment. Though (while I haven't seen it in quite some time), we seem to have shared feelings in regard to RotS :D

Just found out something really cool.

A few months ago, a coworker came by my desk and said his wife might call me to meet for lunch to talk about the Orthodox Church. She was Methodist but I guess she was searching, and someone told her that the Orthodox Church was the original church. But time passed and I never heard from her so I didn't think any more about it.

Yesterday, her husband sees me and tells me she's going to be Chrismated before Pascha! How great is that!!!

late to the discussion, hut I loved the first Iron man, also happy that Robert Downey jr. turned his life for the better. Howwever the second and third Iron man films was meh to me, not terrible, just underwhelming.

On another note I think Seinfield is finally, starting to make sense to me, there all pretty much the sterotypical progressive trapped in their own selfish bubble, but George might be the biggest self centered jerk of them all, yet at times very funny.

Yep, and that is what we (Americans) became in the 90's

That's true, I really don't want it to be a political question, but it one on my mind, how much of this egotism, and selfishness since the 90's is triumphilism(?) following the end of Cold war? kind of like "now that it over, now we can go into our own bubbles"

sorry for the bad spelling but typing from phone
