You sure that's it? It looks like San Antonio, for example, is trying to label use of the words "China virus" as hate speech and have people report it as a possible hate crime.

Ted Cruz says San Antonio's decision to label the term 'Chinese virus' as hate speech is 'nuts'

I don't know where Chesterton lives....but it seemed like a fair example.

The actual resolution doesn’t go quite that far and is somewhat more benign:

Ok...somewhat ...sure.

If they had simply stopped at "we don't like people saying this"....I wouldn't really have any issue.

They did however, affirm some "right of respect" which I'm not familiar of as a right....they did equate the phrase with hate speech....and promised to support minority communities....and encouraged people to report violations.

Now, granted they stopped short of actually declaring it a hate crime to utter those words...but I daresay that's only because they know it won't hold up in court.

Which leaves me scratching my head on what the whole thing was about? Do they really think they're needed, or wanted, in determining what people should say?

This flirtatious attitude towards authoritarian language control is troubling to say the least.

You need to understand I am not trying to justify my position or make it ok with you. This isn't a position I argue per say.

This is America. You do not argue, protest or go nuts. You walk out your front door and go back to your life. Our government has no legal or constitutional authority to shut us down.

View attachment 276060

“The State Attorney’s Office 6th Circuit just DROPPED their case against my client Galen Wood — the first Floridian to be arrested for opening a ‘non-essential’ business. It’s clear there is NO valid legal authority for either the state or local emergency orders,” Sabatini tweeted with the hashtags “liberty” and “COVID19.”

“‘All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty, to pursue happiness, to be rewarded for industry, and to acquire, possess and protect property.’ You have the right to work, and that right is inalienable,”

If you have to, sue. Get a class action 'Deveration of rights under the color of law' suit going. Press charges. Remove them from office if needed. But they do not have the right to force you into destitution.

Absolutely correct! This was in my Florida county ... Very scary. But this is a test - to see how it will be to take away more of our rights. Presently it's just a muscle flex to see how far some can go to limit rights ... but the really frightening part - that so many are not questioning what's going on. I wonder if it's ignorance or complicity? [And no, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, lacking empathy for fellow man, racist, blah, blah - just someone who believes in America as it was constitutionally created and who will defend liberty for all - even for those who no longer love this country.]

First of all....

Ferguson riots....ermm..."protests"....

View attachment 276075

Remember when you were ok with this? When you excused this by claiming it had nothing to do with the protests? You weren't calling anyone violent extremists despite the fact that they were both literally violent and extreme...

Then Dallas....

View attachment 276076

You know....nothing extreme about calling for rebellion and revolution. Some cops got killed at the "we hate cops" protest...but that's totally unrelated.

Then Baltimore...

View attachment 276078

Totally not violent extremists....they're just "venting".

Then Antifa...

View attachment 276081

Antifa...

View attachment 276082

And oh yeah...Antifa...

View attachment 276083

If you weren't against all this...you know, actual violence and extremism...and you're complaining now, what kind of hypocritical doublethink have you been brainwashed into believing?

Thank you - pix worth many words ......

Thank you - pix worth many words ......

Well don't take them to heart...

My point was more about how we can use a single image to frame an entire narrative (aka propaganda) making it at once both more palatable to our audience and harder to refute.

I could have, if I chose to, selected different images from those events and painted the actors in a completely different light.

My point was more about the way this technique of propaganda is being used to paint the protesters in the OP in a negative way.

I already posted an answer. I pointed out a poster who believes that the police are full of white supremacists....you apparently believe the same.

That's despite the evidence that white supremacists want to kill police.

No, you pointed out a poster that believes there are some white supremacists in the ranks of the police. You didn't show anything about someone believing "cops are white supremacists".

The only person claiming "cops are white supremacists" was a theory that needed disproving is you.

That's all they did say.

That's not what they said. This is what they said:
"The City of San Antonio pledges to support the inalienable rights of all people in our community, who should be treated with respect and must remain safe during this pandemic. We call upon all our residents to treat each other with respect."

they did equate the phrase with hate speech....

Not quite. This is what they said:
"WHEREAS, COVID-19 is a public health issue, not a racial, religious or ethnic one, and the deliberate use of terms such as “Chinese virus” or “Kung Fu virus” to describe COVID-19 only encourages hate crimes and incidents against Asians and further spreads misinformation at a time when communities should be working together to get through this crisis; and"

If you want to argue that the resolution constitutes little more than empty, toothless finger-wagging, go for it. You'll find no argument here. I rarely see the point of most resolutions of this sort. But I don't see the authoritarianism - all it says is that people do bad things, and that certain things encourage more bad behavior.

People aren't happy that there is a deadly global pandemic.
People want to be proud of their country and their leaders in steering them through national disasters.
Generally leaders get much better ratings in times like this.

But, with the current USA administration, people are generally angry and scared that their government has been in denial, and is promoting unproven remedies, is criticising rather than helping governors, is taking money away from the World Health Organisation when they are needed the most, is lying about the testing, lying about ventilators, is blaming the previous administration for failed covid-19 tests and is congratulating itself while 60K+ are dead and much more to come.

So delusional and blatantly false ..... you so desperately want to believe you know about America - then why not truly educate yourself. So sad that you believe the surface garbage you choose to only selectively read. Open your mind - maybe you'll see the light.

The mayor in a radio interview said citizens should report anyone who says "Chinese virus" to the authorities, the police or D.A. The follow-up question was "what are the authorities going to do then?" His response was something like "their penalty will be their sense of shame". :| So yes, it is toothless. But doesn't it bother you that, as Ana said, politicians will use a crisis to flirt with seeing what they can away with?

Delusional? Really?

their government has been in denial, - There are many videos online with Trump stating that he has it under control and that it is miraculously going to go away.

and is promoting unproven remedies, - Many videos of Trump promoting hydroxychloroquine, injecting disinfectant and UV light into the body.

is criticising rather than helping governors, - Many videos of Trump criticising the governors and even tweeting for people to liberate them from their governors.

is taking money away from the World Health Organisation when they are needed the most - This is fact, is it not?

is lying about the testing - Many videos of Trump stating either that testing is not important, that US will very shortly do 5 million tests a day, or that US is doing the best in the world on testing.

lying about ventilators, - videos of this online

is blaming the previous administration for failed covid-19 tests - Videos of this online too

and is congratulating itself while 60K+ are dead - Videos of his.

Unless you think the videos are doctored. Perhaps it was CGI rather than really Trump?????.

Your thoughts on this passing observation

Violence perpetrated by the left tends to happen during protests like this. Left wing haters don't as often act out in day to day lives but tend to get violent during protests.

Violence by the right seems to happen in the day to day to day conflicts and injustices. Things like beating up a teenager serving ice cream, shooting a black man who was out on a jog.

Yes, God forbid anybody stomp on your right to engage in pointless, unconstructive propaganda while the adults are trying to deal with an emergency.

Those kinds of "freedoms" aren't anything I will stand up for any time soon. Protecting human life and dignity is more important than catering to the vain fancies of sociopathic politicians and their sycophants.

This is semantic word games....nothing more.

If you doubt my assessment, ask Kaon yourself how many police he believes are affiliated with white supremacy.

You think these guys voted for Trump?

2 men arrested after allegedly killing Flint security guard who told woman to wear mask

Perhaps confirmation bias is causing you to ignore all the examples that don't fit your narrative.

"...tends"
Perhaps nuance is lost on you.

But yes, perhaps I do. It would require a much much larger research proposal than a few anecdotes online.

Ultimately I hope you can see the humour in choosing this particular story presuming the black perpetrators are not right wing, to suggest I employ confirmation bias.
After all...How black Republicans are debunking the myth of a voter monolith

Actually I was asking....not presuming. I couldn't find any story about an ice cream girl getting beaten up. I also couldn't find any political affiliation for the Arbery case. I figured you had decided they were on the right because of skin color.

I don't have to. Reading comprehension will suffice.

Here's what you wrote:

There goes the whole "cops are white supremacists" theory.

This is what you posted to support your claim that you needed to disprove the theory that "cops are white supremacists":

White supremacists are emotional in their hate and delusion, so they make easy pawns to use to bring discord - and therefore introduce a solution already made beforehand. Since they have infiltrated all facets of Law Enforcement, it is understandable how these sentiments can be well organized, and how law enforcement is sympathetic to their activities. We were warned about this and we just laughed. Now it's time to accept the inevitable. Everyone has a role to play; most Americans have accepted the roll as cattle as long as there is a illusion of green pastures and the fencing protects them from other animals - ignorant to the fact that their overall use is for slaughter.

"White supremacists infiltrating the police" is not synonymous with "the police are white supremacists".

Even if Kaon believes that many cops are white supremacists, it does follow that he's claiming "cops are white supremacists". Moreover, white supremacists acting against cops doesn't preclude cops having white supremacists in their ranks.

If you think Kaon is supporting your case despite his written words doing no such thing, you can ask Kaon if he thinks your interpretation of his words is accurate. Plain interpretation of language doesn't support your assertion; the onus is on you to make your case.

Additionally, even Kaon's claims are a radical suggestion. Even if his theory was what you claim it is (it isn't), i don't see liberals claiming that his theory is worth consideration.

You're arguing against a straw man.

No, not delusional at all - he's correct. For someone from another nation he has a much better grasp on the reality of what's happening in the US than a large number of Americans do.
