Battling the Mob, a Black Officer Came Face to Face With Racism

The racist slurs hurled at Harry Dunn, a Capitol Police officer, during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol were cited as evidence this month in the Senate’s impeachment trial of former President Donald J. Trump. Until this week, Officer Dunn had remained anonymous.

Now, Officer Dunn, 37, who is Black and is a 13-year veteran of the force, and who grew up in nearby Prince George’s County, Md., is ready to speak publicly about the violence and racism he experienced at the hands of a pro-Trump mob during that grim day in American history.

Standing 6-foot-7 with a muscular frame, Officer Dunn is an imposing figure, but he says the bigotry and trauma he experienced that day were enough to intimidate anyone. Now that he is talking about his experience, he says other Black officers have told him that they, too, experienced racist slurs from the mob.

It's not surprising that he encountered that given the "ilk" that happened to be heavily participating in the capitol riots.

The "fringes" of both political factions can be scary.

When you leave the boundaries of the Overton Window, you're in potentially dangerous territory.

I just wish that people on both sides had a more consistent perspective on this and the country would be a much more peaceful place.

People are great at pointing out extremism from the opposing side, but seem to have a hard time pointing it out on their own side, which leaves us with a scenario in which, at any given time, extremists have the support of 50% of their countrymen... not a great place to be.

The guy who turned to dark-skinned Americans, told them that they're not from here and because they're not from here, don't belong here and shouldn't have a voice in government - that guy is a racist.

I tried to read the link but couldn't figure out which was Trump's actual words "in context" and which was the author of the piece trying to explain to the unwary what Trump really meant.

As a matter fact evidence is coming to light that the attack on the capital was planned long before Trump spoke that police etc. had intelligence but ignored it. Funny what one finds when they actually look for the truth.

The article isn't a confusing mess and it's not my fault you can't read it. But since you asked, here is what he said:

So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly......

....and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how....

....it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

It was planned because of the rhetoric he had been spouting for two months up to that point about Dominion voting machines and "stolen" votes. He is 100% responsible for what happened on January 6th.

See my response to Iluvatar, immediately above. Do you have any credible, evidence of any kind that would be acceptable in a court of law? As I said above Please put your animosity aside for a bit and look up the evidence coming to light.

Nearly every tweet he vomited out between November 7th and January 6th.

It's quite a rhetorical trick to assume that people who can clearly see that Trump caused the would-be insurrection are simply riled up with "animosity".
