The greatest gift we can give to our children is (IMO) the ability to question absolutely everything~

"Don't take my word for it, FIND out for yourself." Should be engraved on a block given to every newly expectant parent.

First of all let me say that sin can indeed have genetic predispositions. This can easily be explained as a result of the corruption from the Fall: e.g. our sinful natures.
For example, alcoholism has a strong genetic component.
However, should we encourage persons with a tedency toward alcoholism to drink, drink and drink some more? Of course not. Neither though should we ostracize them for their tendency toward alcoholism, as they cannot instantly overcome something that is an inborn trait.
However, we can pronounce getting drunk as a sin and encourage an ideal of sobriety. we can provide support for them and encourage.
I think we should look at homosexuality the same way. It is a sin to practice, just as alcoholism is a sin to practice. However we shouldn't shun those who are honestly trying to overcome it (yes there are some) and we should encourage either celibacy or marriage as it is defined by the Bible.
Remember that we should hate the sin.
But also remember that the sinner is not to be hated. :)
BTW also before you judge someone as being *gay* you need to be sure your facts are right. If someone *looks* strange or acts differently that doesn't necessarily mean what you think it does.

Ya know, I aplogize, I accidently came to the wrong place. I knew I was at the Christian forums, I just wasn't aware that I came to open debate forum. I do like to debate, it gets the blood goin, but I prefer conversations with other Christians at this point in my life. I am at the point where I have nothing to prove, and I know where I am going.

There is no gray areas. None. You can't walk ON the fence, you're either on one side or the other. You're either with God or your not. In the Bible, Revelation 3:16 says,"But since you are like lukewarm water, I will spit you out of my mouth! "

You know I'm not narrow minded, but I am on a narrow path... Matthew 7:14 " the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it."
Matthew 19:24-I say it again--it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!"

God did not make us robots, that is the only way we could have all went to heaven. He gave us the freedom to choose, because he WANTED us to choose Him. But he specificly gave us His word, to show us the way and to help us live for Him.And HE never said it WOULD BE EASY!!!!

My heart hurts for anyone who does not seek His face and does not live for Him, because you are walking n the wrong side of the fence, and therefore I will not see you in Heaven. And for that, I am sad.

This debate , this topic, these words that I have said, are just one teeny tiny part of who I am. I have a wonderful life, I have a happy life, I laugh, I joke around, I have a wonderful, handsome husband whom I am in love with and still act like it, I walk with my neighbor, I go to the movies, I play cards, I play outside in the grass with my kids, I teach Sunday school, and I shop at Walmart til 2 in the morning with my mom and sisters! Just because I know what I believe is true, and I have that confidence, and I am willing to tell you, no matter what your opinion is of me, doesn't make me a know it all, or narrow minded, or a person"who takes life too seriously" THAT makes me a CHRISTIAN. And proud of it.

After I posted my last response, I went and had one of my daily devotions in my box, and it was so perfect for what I had been trying to say, so I am posting it here...

    Opposition to the Word

"Have you been led astray, too?" the Pharisees mocked. "Is
there a single one of us rulers or Pharisees who believes in
him? These ignorant crowds do, but what do they know about
it? A curse on them anyway!"

    -- John 7:47-49 (NLT)

    KEY THOUGHT:
Smug rejection is such an obnoxious trait. Yet we see it all the time.
When others don't want to grapple with the truth of Jesus, the
perplexing and demanding challenges of genuine discipleship, they
smugly look down their noses and speak of believers as idiots and
imbeciles. Some do it more subtly than others, but the smug arrogance
is still there. "If only you were as educated or smart or street-wise
as we are, you would know that Christianity is a bunch of fluff for the
weak." We need to remember, however, that many reject Jesus because his
demands are hard, not because his existence is questionable. The
religious opposition in Jesus day was rooted in the religionists' not
wanting to have to change their lives, their perspectives, their places
of power, their positions... So when they could not explain Jesus away,
they had to put down his followers and any who had an interest in what
he had to say. If you listen closely today, you will continue to hear
their voices. Just don't heed them! Decide for yourself based on what
you read and see of Jesus on your own.

    TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, I recognize that the Gospel of Jesus doesn't exist in a vacuum.
I confess that I am frustrated by several of those around me that I
love dearly, who will not accept the truth about Jesus. Please grant
them a season of an open heart. Please bless them with an openness to
truth. Please use me to point them to Jesus so they can decide about
him honestly for themselves from an open heart. In Jesus' name I pray.
    Amen.

I'm sorry, but that is just so awesome and for me, that was a confirmation from God, that was Him saying to me"Well done, my true and faithful child"

So long! Love ya all, and as my mom says...

    BE THERE !

Oddly, wasn't it the Pharisees who stuck to an interpretation of the Law that made it easy for them to condemn people, and made wild accusations against someone who came along saying they'd misunderstood it?

Nope not odd. There's nothing odd to me about the stories that are told in the Bible, told to TEACH us things.

Romans 16:25 Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past,

You can be a skeptic all you want to seebs. Bottom line is nobody will ever have all of the answers, but God can and will reveal things to you if you ask him too. Each and every persons relationship with God is personal. You will get nothing out of it, if you choose to get nothing out of it. You can get everything out of it, including eternal life, if you choose.

Wether you like it or not, YOU now have a spot in my prayer journal, and I am praying for you every day, for God to reveal himself and his wisdom to you, for His enlightenment to fall upon you. You can study all you want , you can read all you want , you can analyze it ALL YOU WANT.You can be SKEPTIC all you want.... But if you're not walkin the walk, my friend, talkin the talk AINT gonna get you anywhere...definitely not into Heaven.

I am so thankful for this debate today. It made me search out scriptures, it made me realize how awesome and how splendid our God is...yes OUR God. He loves you Seebs, just as much as he loves me too. And I love you too!

Have an awesome day my friend!

A question. I am very sure that I believe in Jesus Christ as He is presented in the Bible, and have recieved Him as my Lord and Savior. I believe the Bible to be inerrant. Do you think that I'm an unbeliever simply because I say that there may be genetic predispositions toward certain sins?
If so, I will change my views, at least publicly, as I do not want anyone to stumble, and I also do not want to appear to be denying the faith in anyone's sight. :)Either of those things would bring horrible dishonor to my Lord.
    :sorry:

Well Susan, I'm not sure what I believe about that per say, but I will say this , as I have said before, we have a choice. And our God is MOST powerful and He is an awesome God, I believe he can change anything. He can heal people of any and all physical ailments, why can't he heal the other stuff? I believe that he can, but you have to ask him to, and you have to want Him too, once again, nobody ever said following God would be easy or that we wouldn't be persecuted for it. I don't however, think people need to be allowed to use that as an excuse."I was born that way". I was born a sinner and His blood shed on the cross changed that. His blood can change any perverse or wrong sexual behavior too. I DO believe that. Just as I believe God can heal an alcoholic, or a drug addict, a cancer patient,a person suffering from MS . I know I am not alone in knowing this and believing this.

Either way Susan, I believe God will bless you for wanting and searching for the truth.

    Living for him, Lori

    To clarify:
I was not saying that the practice of homosexuality was acceptable before God, no more than the practicing of alcoholism is.
In both cases I see the sin as committing the homosexual sin or getting drunk, not as simply the temptation or "draw" toward the sin in either case.
That is why I advocated celibacy or heterosexual marriage.
In other words, even if it is genetic: Resist, resist, RESIST!

Sorry to offend anyone on either side of the debate.
I once read the lament of a Christian author that I can now agree with:
"I'm too liberal for the conservatives and too conservative for the liberals." :)

I don't like this Homosexual show Nickelodeon is proposing!!

Think about it, not only does the bible say homosexuality is a sin, but it is just not anatomically compatible, it just wasn't made to happen, very unnatural.

I don't support the Nickelodeon show either.
Like I said, using the alcoholism comparison, would it be acceptable to put active alcoholics on there and let them talk about how they get drunk?
    NO.

It should not be on children's TV. Most of what "childrens' TV" is is a misnomer:
It's not fit for children and it has no value as TV.

I think it is disgusting.

Children should not be subject to this.

There was a big long thread on homosexuality issues over in General Apologetics. I think people should read it; a *LOT* of good points were made by both sides.

In general, I think it's clear that homosexuality itself cannot be sinful, any more than any other inborn trait. It is possible that homosexual sex is sinful, but the case is not as cut and dried as people often present it as being; careful reading suggests that it's a harder question than some think.

I do think the way most Christians treat homosexuals is absolutely disgusting. They are people, they are badly treated by many for something they have no control over, and they clearly need to know that God's love is not conditional.

(If you're about to say "it's conditional on them stopping", stop and think - stopping what? Being built differently from you? Sinning? Have you yourself *TOTALLY* stopped all sins, including uncharitable thoughts towards your neighbors? No, you haven't. None of us have.)

With all the sin in the world, why expose them to television that potentially views homosexuality as ok.:(

Homosexuality is a sin, and children should not be subject to material that views homosexuality as ok. We are not implying not to love the homosexual, but our children shouldn't be persuaded to accept that homosexuality is ok, because it is not it is a sin! A sin is a sin is a sin.

If Nick puts this on TV for my child to watch, I will be

I will teach my child to love everyone, but I will not allow her to watch pro homosexual material, not only is it a sin but I feel it is morally wrong!
