Trump doesn't want Emmer. Certainly, at least five House members are afraid of the ex-president.

Republicans need to move ahead a few more ballots. Perhaps, then Emmer or someone similar will make a deal with the Democrats. Emmer meets the #1 Democrat requirement: he voted to certify the election.

Trump, apparently, is not a fan of Emmer's bid for Speaker.

Trump's team calling House GOP members and urging them to oppose Emmer, sources say
Members of former President Donald Trump's team are calling House GOP members and urging them to oppose Rep. Tom Emmer for speaker, two sources tell CNN.
One source said they’re “whipping hard.” The other source said more members are now pulling their support because of it.
Trump rebuked Emmer's bid in a social media post on Tuesday, calling the Minnesota Republican a RINO, or a "Republican in Name Only," and said voting for him "would be a tragic mistake!”

Trump attacks Emmer as 'RINO', says supporting him 'would be a tragic mistake'

I love how in the same sentence he admits to not knowing Emmer well yet still calls him a RINO. Seems kinda contradictory.

Until the Republican Party rids itself of Trump and his loyalist, it will continue to face these issues. If the party actually stood for it's historical values, it would have kicked the Trump faction out of the party after Jan 6th. Instead, the Speaker went down to Mar-a-logo. They are reaping what was sown.

no

Anyone who votes for the certification of Biden's election certainly is not a part of Trump's Party.

We need a 3rd Party:
Trump Party
Republican Party
Democratic Party

....the latter two can form a colation to elect a speaker.

It doesn't take a huge number of Republicans to greatly reduce the power of the far right in the House. After any of these ballots, a few Republicans can meet with the Dems and it's all over. If the Gang of 8, or 20 continue their nonsense, perhaps a few Republicans will stand up to Trump. In the end, it only takes FIVE Republicans, presuming that they are willing to oppose Trump, and likely lose their House seats.

There must be 5 Republicans in swing districts....?

Increasingly, this does look like the only way out. At the very least, Republicans are in a lose-lose, since Gaetz and Co more-or-less want a shutdown, even if it'll be an immense level of backlash on the GOP. And any candidate the Freedom Caucus likes will likely willingly drive into a shutdown as well.

The only issue is, can five Republicans offer the Dems enough? Unless those Republicans are willing to vote for Jeffries, they need to offer some actual power sharing that won't be immediately ripped away from Democrats. And they'd need to stick by Jeffries to avoid any future attempts to remove him, as well.

And Emmer's out.

Seriously, if I didn't know that most of the people on GETTR were Russian and Iranian trolls, I'd be thinking the Republican Party won't last this week without a schism. Tom Emmer, the GOP whip, is being excoriated by GETTR posters as a RINO yadda yadda yadda and worse.

You were NOT the right man for this job. You are against MAGA- America First policies. You are against Trump- Right now, the only man to fix The democrat’s disasterous failing Of America. Why your voters put you in- You must’ve been the only GOP Available bc now times are a changing. We demand Republicans that are NOT PART DEMOCRAT. Period. ❤️✝️

18 in districts won by Biden.

Their risk is that they will lose in a primary. Of course, the Republicans would then lose in the general.

Also, this thread title has aged like milk.
It's gonna be hard with new threads too - "Emmeris the nominee for Speaker" was only accurate for about 3 hours or so. At the rate that they're tossing away speaker candidates, we might get through the whole GOP list by the end of the year.

And the rest of the world is laughing at this pathetic prune-show.

We would laugh if the media would set the House speaker debacle to Benny Hill theme song when reporting the story.
Yakety sax! Lol
