  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is there salvation in Mary?

Worshiping people, no matter who they are, has never been permitted by God .

No kidding. And it is strictly forbidden by the Catholic Church.

Please educate yourself about what the Church actually teaches before repeating false propaganda spread by anti Catholic bigots.

FYI (from the Catechism)

970 Mary's function as mother of men in no way obscures or diminishes this unique mediation of Christ, but rather shows its power. But the Blessed Virgin's salutary influence on men flows forth from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on his mediation, depends entirely on it, and draws all its power from it. No creature could ever be counted along with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer; but just as the priesthood of Christ is shared in various ways both by his ministers and the faithful, and as the one goodness of God is radiated in different ways among his creatures, so also the unique mediation of the Redeemer does not exclude but rather gives rise to a manifold cooperation which is but a sharing in this one source.

Its blatantly obvious to anyone reading your posts that you have no clue what-so-ever about the teachings / practices of the Catholic Church!

I certainly agree that worship (λατρεία) belongs to God alone, and that we shouldn't worship (λατρεία) Mary or the other saints.

It's too bad that the English often only has one word for concepts represented by multiple words in Greek.

But this Mary devotion page quotes without context too.
http://www.catholictradition.org/Mary/mary18a.htm

This is NOT an official Roman Catholic website! This is a TRADITIONAL Catholic Website, usually run by those that do not believe that there has been a valid Pope in the Chair of St. Peter since the death of Pope John XXIII. They are called sedevacantists, and they have about as much to say about the Catholic Church than the hypothetical life forms on Titan

Look at REAL Catholic sites. If you find a link to Tan Books or Rorate Caeli, then it is not Catholic.

who is calvin? For God so loved the world....

You don't know who John Calvin is? He is one of the main Reformers in the 16th century, along with Luther, Zwingli, Knox, and many others

Search about him on the internet. You'll find him!

Where's the lady who posted a picture of the pope on his knees looking up at a statue of Mary, his hands folded in oh such an adoring fashion?

That is way above and beyond the devotion one human should show another.
We are all sinners, and God is no respector of persons.
Do you think Jesus would get on His knees and adore a statue of any person? I don't believe so.

The TULIP theology framework is one of his most well known contributions to the Reformed Protestant movement.

The TULIP theology framework was of course not from Calvin, but from the 1619 Synod of Dordt (the "TULIP" acronym itself is later; from the early 1900s).

But I agree with you on the need to learn Church History.

If you want to know what the Church teaches read the Catechism.

I would tend to agree with you, but much popular Marian devotion goes well beyond what's in the Catechism (indeed, to my untutored eyes, much popular Marian devotion seems to contradict the Catechism).

Acts 4: 12
8-12 With that, Peter, full of the Holy Spirit, let loose: “Rulers and leaders of the people, if we have been brought to trial today for helping a sick man, put under investigation regarding this healing, I’ll be completely frank with you—we have nothing to hide. By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the One you killed on a cross, the One God raised from the dead, by means of his name this man stands before you healthy and whole. Jesus is ‘the stone you masons threw out, which is now the cornerstone.’ Salvation comes no other way; no other name has been or will be given to us by which we can be saved, only this one.”

Ah, ok. Thank you for the clarification. While I've studied Calvinism theologically in modern times, the progression of theological developments in that branch of the church is not my most studied subject.

I appreciate the correction! I don't want to misrepresent anything.

It's complicated. And, since the roots of Calvinism are in non-English-speaking countries like France, Switzerland, Hungary, and the Netherlands, even many American Calvinists are hazy both on the history and on the theological details.

It would be safe to say that most people probably care very little for "whats on the books" within Rome, as we are more concerned with what we hear on a regular basis from the average Roman Catholic; it matters very little even if their worship of Mary is performed through ignorance.

Even though I respect the right for anyone to believe anything they want, I still must whole heartedly object to any adoration that goes beyond simple respect, which is in my opinion is 'worship', Even the Lord Himself did not pedestal Mary above any other disciple when He gave the 'who is my Mother' teaching in Matthew 12:46-50 . To me it is clear that to Him it is very important that we as Christians are and remain on the same level. Otherwise we spin off into strange worship like the people did with the snake staff in the OT. I am confident that if possible Mary herself would reprove her worshippers if she was able.

He was not worshiping the statue or Mary.

Do you worship your bed when you kneel down by it to pray?

Do you worship the Bible when you bend to read it?
