How can we expect to make it to the next century?
I see two options:

a) Strict laws put into place to stop greenhouse emissions from causing havock, or

b) the population of the world shrinks by leaps and bounds (possibly by bird flu????)

Its things like this that convince me that our Savior needs to make a hasty return and save our pathetic selves.
Here's hoping...

God bless,

Lucas, Joe B a s t a r d i (I know - what a name - it even got edited :D ) http://home.accuweather.com/index.asp?partner=accuweather heads up the National Weather Center's hurricane group and he says that we are in a 500 year cycle. Nothing more and nothing less.

I'm still trying to read a copy of "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton who usually researches his novels pretty well. Anyway, the premise is that "global warming" is a business thing, not a weather/sun/pollution thing.

Previous skeptics of global warming are now seeing that it’s a reality; no educated and logically thinking person can look at all of the data and not read it as definitely changing – and changing a lot faster than we previously anticipated. Global warming is the biggest threat physically around the world, and a majority of people are ignorant to it because the government would rather have consumers continue to pump more oil and CO2 into the atmosphere so that economies throughout the world can continue to grow.. it’s happening because those, (and the masses), who run our governments are greedy and want more money from continually industrializing their societies. Even if we stop now, it’ll continue to happen for a few years, as CO2 takes at least a few years to even reach the o-zone layer. I worry most though, about people who say it’s not happening: those who remain ignorant will only help to speed the process of global warming… this is why politicians who know nothing about science, continue to pass bills which hurt our environment.. they have no idea what they’ve done and are doing and don’t care because they’re making money – while scientists and physical geographers are pulling their hair out wishing that the typical ignorant man in society will hear the truth.

From around 1890 to 1941 scientists recorded a gradual global climate increase of about .04%. Then from 1941 to 1975 there was a gradual decrease in global warming. And from 1975 to the present scientists have noticed a slight global climate increase of about .01%....a lower increase than what was recorded between 1890-1941.

In 1975, Newsweek ran a terrifying story announcing that virtually all scientists were in agreement that the earth only had about a decade left before global grain crops fell by 50% due to global warming. And this horrific trend was predicted to only get worse. In fact, those men sounded as panic stricken as present day scientists. But as we all know, all of those great scientific minds were completely mistaken, and crops have actually increased.

The point is, this whole "global warming" phenomina is simply a natural occurance...one that tends to rise and fall every 50 years or so. As stated earlier, there was a much bigger temperature increase at the turn of the last century - long before any SUV's were putting evil greenhouse gases into the air. People were sure the world's food supply wasn't going to last much past 1985, and now look. The scientists were wrong then and they're wrong now. Time will prove it.

"Be worried. Be very worried," states the most recent issue of TIME Magazine.

Observers say climate change is damaging the earth at an alarming pace and years of warnings from scientists about global warming are now coming in loud and clear for the global public.

"There will be no polar ice by 2060," said Larry Schweiger, president of the National Wildlife Federation, according to TIME, whose Apr. 3 cover was adorned by a polar bear on crumbling ice lands. "Somewhere along that path, the polar bear drops out."

According to reports, glaciers and ice caps are melting, some more than twice as fast, sea levels are rising, summers are becoming more blistering, more than double the percentage of Earth's surface is suffering drought since the 1970s and the species that most say are causing the problems – namely, mankind – has begun to feel the devastating effects.(end quote)

http://www.christianpost.com/article/society/2358/section/global.warming.spotlight.heats.up.evangelicals.speak.out/1.htm

I would say that we are well on the way to a time coming when mens hearts will fail them from the fear of what is coming upon the earth.

Acts,

I often wonder if you just like disagreeing with me just for the sake of it.
Yes, I agree with you that there have been some scientists that have been telling us for some time now that we are doomed, we're going to experience some terrible changes, etc,etc....and they've turned out to be wrong. I also understand your argument that the earth goes through natural changes in the climate, as it does do this.
However, I'm not so sure you can make a valid argument that our current condition has to do with anything natural. WE, human beings, are responsible for the changes we are seeing in our world. Start taking some accountability and accept the fact that we have polluted and destroyed large portions of our ecosystems and our ozone layer. Look around at surounding ecosystems and count off how many species we kill off daily. That's a fairly accurate portrayal of our destructive nature here on earth. And now, because of this, because of our complete neglect of the world around us, we are going to see large changes in our climate and weather and such. There will be nothing natural about it.
The scientists have been crying wolf over and over again, and now that the wolf is clawing at the front door, people dont want to listen. And I can understand the reluctance to listen. That's where personal investigation comes into play. Have you done yours?
You can hoot and hollar all you want that this change is just a natural process in the earth's cycle, but you will be only deceiving yourself, and anyone else ignorant to listen to thre facts.

God bless,

Lucas

The first thing I'd have to do is live to be 147. Ain't many manage it.

Proof of indivualism like so many people are these days! And they wonder about Global warming. What about the next generations? Your kids, or of your siblings or friends????

First of all, global warming isn't natural.....it goes too fast.

Secondly; Scientist come up with great idea's but the multinationals and the politicians refuse to act on these idea's. One car per family i.e. and only if your work is so and so miles away...the rest can take the bicycle. Industry is even worse. Strict rules and constant evaluation so they obbey by these rules all the time....

And of course; throw out the fuels.....we have plenty of other ways to drive a vehicle. I have an electric bicycle (I have a heart condition....) Not a car not a motorized bicycle that use fuel...No an electric bicycle that use hardly any electricity.......I choose it to help the environment...

And last but not least; Many countries try hard to help the best they can but countries like the USA who refuse to sign agreements (Like the Kyoto agreement) to stop global warming because politics in capitalist countries are about money and the votes of those in i.e. the car industry.............well, do I really have to go there?

Just a few thoughts that came to mind while reading replies.....

No, not at all. If anyone else had authored this thread I would have responded with the exact same info, so it’s nothing personal. I don’t like disagreeing with you; I wish we would be unified in our beliefs, eschatological or otherwise. But unfortunately that is not the case.

But you can’t prove that assertion. If climate changes are in fact cyclical, then we humans aren’t primarily responsible for the changes we are seeing. Again, between 1890 and 1941 the world’s climate increased by a greater margin than what we’re experiencing now, and that change had absolutely nothing to do with us.

I don’t deny we cause problems…I just deny that our actions are so problematic we might not “make it into the next century”.

LucasGoltz said:

I don’t know, you tell me. I haven’t noticed any ecosystems or species dying recently….without checking the web first, do you know of any that were just killed off?

Guess time will be the judge of that. I have full confidence that the world God created is rugged enough to handle some of the dumb things we do. And I think “our complete neglect of the world” is a pretty broad brush stroke.

Not hootin’ nor hollerin’ here…just giving my opinion, as are you. The fact is there was a greater climate change a century ago than what we’re currently experiencing. It wasn’t caused by us.

To mention things getting "hotter" shows you haven't studied global warming... global "warming" could take us into another ice age. But yes; some interpret the Bible as saying that the Earth will be destroyed by fire.
Sorry i have trouble seeing this as a big problem. here in Ohio its definatly affecting our weather patterns but I always hated the cold any way, now its warmer here and the warm weather lasts longer, winter is more mild. Global worming inducing the ice age theory doesnt make sense to me.

Hi guys

Global warming is last plague # 4:

Revelation 16:8
And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

The last plagues are fast being poured out, especially global warming. 2005 was the hottest year in history.

If that were true then we should be hearing people blaspheming God , but their not , their blaming humanity.

Er...unless of course that scripture which says "they blasphemed the "NAME" of God" is refering to people like my athiest neighbour who yelled out to me the other day and said , Jesus Christ it's bloody hot today.

Atheism is increasing and I hear more and more atheists blaspheming the name of God.
Also, when we harm God's creation with greenhouse gasses, are we not blaspheming God?

It is so sad that the same scientists who have discovered global warming-not an easy task- are absolutely helpless to offer solutions. What's up with that? Until solutions are in place, there is no problem. (Problems are defined by response, not rhetoric.)
