  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

We Canadians already do far, far, far, far, far more than two percent about it and with a bit of intellectual honesty out of Ottawa we could solve perhaps thirty to sixty percent of the problem with this one technology alone?

Ottawa is giving me the impression that they want more TAXES..... more power.... more control over the lives of Canadians........ but Ottawa DOES NOT seem to want to promote a major technological breakthrough such as the following:

It is such a good point that it should not have been required and Dennis's argument in the OP should never have been made. It is a tragically simplistic, selfish, impractical approach.

I plead guilty! The house that I am typing from in on a lake that is classified as tidal water and thus..... I look at this whole question differently than somebody living in Ottawa or Washington!

Guy in the video definitely has a good sense of humor:

True...... and I plead guilty to having self interest in how I look at this but it may be some consolation that I was even more politically incorrect back in 2008....... as you can see from post #2

My 2006, my 2008 and my 2004 campaign writings by DennisTate.

So you're saying you're sort of 'on the edge' -- threatened by climate change.
The world community has come up with a general plan for mitigating the problem.
Your response is, "I don't like that plan."

Sorry to say, people who are not as threatened as you are will be even less motivated to do anything.

Actually....... I think that the plan that the World Community has came up with is intellectually dishonest...........and will not address the threat of rising ocean level rapidly enough!

Richard Dawkins Ph. D. is an insightful writer and speaker who actually did a quite good job on the topic of alien life forms evolving or even being involved in the origin of life on earth ..... but...... he has avoided the elephant in the room of the far more likely event of Life originating and evolving in fundamental or nearly fundamental energy and thus.... this Intelligence being capable of inspiring a group of writers who seemed to have insight comparable with near death experiencers who report viewing something like "timelessless" during their brushes with death.

    Isaiah 35
The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.
    ....
6 Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing; for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

7 And the glowing sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water: in the habitation of jackals, where they lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

Mr. Carl Cantrell's basic theories ...... or at least some variation on it could be easily sold to the political right but...... Mr. Al Gore seems to have been pressured to attempt to divide Americans...... .as opposed to trying to unite them somewhat.

Green Party Leader Ms. Elizabeth May did reply to my 2008 campaign writing and basically stated that "turning deserts green was one part of a full response to climate change." She got my vote..... because I knew that I knew that she had given me an important admission that I would use often in the not too distant future.

I live in Central - Nova and she campaigned in my riding in 2008.

Cape Coral, FL has a desalinization plant. El Paso, TX has a desalinization plant. This technology is not Israeli tech.

If sea level is rising two inches per decade, how long can the coast shores last?

Florida has suffered beach erosion from tropical storms for decades. They have been mining sand and dumping it on the beach in Miami and other stretches of coast. The Dutch built dikes to reclaim land from the sea centuries ago.

What an odd thing to say... so who gets to decide where ice was and was not 'meant to be'?

Oh, the irony of someone advocating superstition claiming it's others that want to send the world back to the stone age.

Silly me.......... but that statement was not made by me but was made by the person who I was quoting who incidentally I might agree with seventy or eighty percent of what they wrote and got enthusiastic because I am used to disagreeing with significantly greater percentages of several paragraph statements.

As to Who would decide where the ice should be...... the implications of this discussion are rather obvious:

Where did Intelligence begin, in matter or fundamental energy?

My goal is to desalinate and add to the water table of nations with lots of desert a comparable amount of H2O as is melting off the land based Greenland Ice Sheet and the world's glaciers....... and perhaps soon off the West Antarctic Ice Sheet so that OCEAN LEVELS ARE KEPT STABLE!!!!!!

Yes.... what I have in mind is a mega - project but.... guess what....... we are all set up to shift the flavour of the world economy somehow or another and this could be a whole lot better than what we have been doing over these last fifty years.

    I know, that's why I put it in a sub-quote.

As to the linked OP, there's no such thing as 'fundamental' energy. Energy is an indirectly observed quantity, a property of elements of the world by reason of their physical state and/or context. Also, "energy from the quantum vacuum" is rather the 'energy of the quantum vacuum'; it's the inherent random energy of quantum uncertainty around the ground state and as such is simply not available to do useful work.

So the linked OP is what Richard Feynman used to call 'cargo-cult science'; it has the superficial appearance of science without any scientific content or value. IOW sciency-sounding pseudoscience.

Desalinization uses energy. Most of the world’s energy is from oil, natural gas, coal and biomass. Moving mountain tops to mine coal or pumping oil fields dry would not provide enough energy to desalinate enough water. People would run out of gasoline and only cause more global warming.

The Dead Sea in Israel is the lowest point on earth. The entire Jordan Valley and Sea of Galilee are below sea level. It would not be economical to store excess sea level rise there as it would cause destruction to the economies of Israel and Jordan. Part of New Orleans is below sea level. They would not want their homes underwater.

As for your article about wartime spending and hyperinflation, it happened. The debate continues about social spending versus spending for guns. What would Jesus do?

Thank you for putting the other person's statement in a sub quote but they gave their name so.... you could have given them credit for their statement.

As to fundamental energy I suggest visiting a used book store look for "Stephen Hawking's Universe" and reading chapter thirteen but my larger point for those willing to approach this with an open mind is that I am convinced that we human are actually some of the weakest....... least well informed........ least energetic........ forms of "intelligence" in the universe - multiverse.

My point being that Mr. Al Gore giving in to Richard Dawkins Ph. D. and following his philosophy obsequiously is not particularly impressive to me, but..... his film An Inconvenient Truth was reasonably well done......... but Mr. Gore should be bright enough to realize that his film is not the final word on the topic of how best to attempt to stabilize the climate.
