If they aren't being hired as armed guards, nobody
is talking about forcing them to carry guns, much
less shoot them. If they are armed guards, and they
don't plan to shoot, they shouldn't take the job.

How to get rid of many guns in the US: increase taxes on all types of ammunition, year on year, until the masses can't afford it. It doesn't affect their Constitutional right, it just makes it very expensive to buy so that people will think twice before buying. But I don't think the US President is brave enough to try it.

Your plan would only hurt the poor and middle class.
Those well-off to rich will just pay extra so their body
guards have enough ammo. And it will only change
how ammo is bought. Black market or unassembled.
People can load ammo at home with a minimum of
equipment.

Two things about Australia.
1. They never had 300 million firearms, as Americans do (minimum).
2. They didn't take all the guns. Only about 1/5 of them, and all from
legal owners. I doubt they got a handful of illegal guns off the streets.

But simple reasoning says it is better to do something, than nothing, as per many of your lawmakers. No one has commented on how these people are able to get into educational establishments in the first place! Maybe Mr. Trump could use some of the bricks from the border wall and build secure entrances to these buildings, with two door security areas, complete with bullet proof glass. Maybe he could get someone to fit an emergency alarm that connects these places direct to the nearest police station, saving time in getting response teams out?

This will not stop the person who sprays an area with bullets from a hotel room, where he has stacked his ammo etc etc. Did NO ONE notice, not even the hotel security staff that this man was carrying all this to his room? Not even the person who clean the room each day?

For all the arguments about having guns, general security in the US seems to be restricted to the people you hold arms against, by law: the forces of law and order and the military! Such irony!

eight to ten hours a day? Maybe frog-march them
from one class to another with armed guards, like
a chain gang? We already have chain link fences
with barb wire surrounding our schools. Maybe
the next step will be x-rays and metal detectors
like at the airports, complete with pat downs of
any suspicious parents or kids. Anyone for a good
old-fashioned body cavity search?

This issue is so fake with the gun-grabbing left, it
gets irritating.

New laws are not the answer. New lives are.

Actually, I think it is exactly what some of the
left's leaders want to happen. Control the minds
of the children and you own the next generation.
They already don't want the parents to interfere
in government indoctrination at schools and they
are making it harder to home school them, unless
you are part of the upper crust.
