While the issue has not moved forward in the Senate, the Florida House on Friday passed a controversial bill that would lower the minimum age from 21 to 18 to buy rifles and shotguns.

The Republican-controlled House voted 76-35 along almost-straight party lines to pass the bill (HB 1223), which would reverse a decision that raised the minimum age after the 2018 mass shooting at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 people.

Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, R-Naples, has repeatedly said the Senate doesn’t have a similar bill, meaning the proposed age change will not pass during this year’s legislative session.

To enlist in the military ...

Recruits must be 18 (or 17 with parental consent)

So to me it's a logical decision to change it to age 18

Either that or change the age to enlist in the military to 21

What's that got to do with purchasing a rifle? Do you think soldiers take their rifles off base when on leave or something?

Raising the voting age into the 30s has been kicked around a bit by republicans recently yet military recruitment age hasn’t been mentioned. Back to the good old days of mandatory service before voting age perhaps? Can’t be giving the cannon fodder ideas about controlling their own lives.

They go through a lot of training. If they fail. They get kicked out. The gun laws should don't. That's a big difference.

It makes sense to lower the age of gun ownership. After all, if those kids are going to shoot up their school, they might as well buy their own weapons and ammo and support the economy.
