  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Free Will & God's Sovereignty/Predestination

I always ponder which side was correct. Everyone always debates this. In Christianity, I wonder why there are so many disagreements, denominations as well as opinions when we are to not to be confused. I don't think God would make these matters this confusing and hard for us to understand. I...

    Is there a Divine Enemy?

Is Satan/Mephistopheles/the devil real? Or is this just flaws in our own humanity that lead us to do bad things? This is open to any religions, and what I have below is just my own ramblings about this topic, not apologetics. I'm simply laying out my beliefs & asking you to do the same. The...

    Free Will and Deism

Getting away from BLM and ACAB (All Cars are Big?)... So, we believe God gives us free will but God being personal with us and the world would not mean he is interference in a certain way and conflicting with "free will"? Wouldn't us free will require God being deistic, even when it goes...

Reformed. Does monergism apply only to salvation/regeneration?

--Or does it apply to the rest of the believer's life? Monergism generally only refers to the regeneration of the believer being the work of God alone --that is, that we do not even cooperate in our own salvation by "accepting" or being an active agent in receiving the Lord. God alone chooses...

God, all good and almighty, and evil, for Arminians.

Sorry a computer glitch made a double post. A thread about why evil exists today, before Christ's return. Why Satan exists, and his range of powers and cohorts. Why Jesus died on a cross, to face evil. Why He looked foolish. All this while God is almighty and all good. Also all knowing, knowing...

Free will, and original sin --a discussion continued

This is a reply to Cis.jd, where I am unable to reply within the thread, since replies have been closed off: Cis.jd says: "The way i cite scripture isn't by cherry picking verses and taking part in an "interpretation battle" but using references in the Bible (or just general theology) "For...

Finding Grace - A Case Against Irresistible Grace

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” (Gen. 6:8) What is Grace? It is often taught to be a magical power that is bestowed on us by God; the very source of regeneration itself. There are some who preach that God’s grace is reserved only for certain people. Some of these same preachers...

    Passages challenging Calvinism

Hello, all! For many months, maybe a year, I've been studying debates for and against Calvinism. While passages such as Romans 9 are claimed by Calvinists to support their position, I'd like to hear your view on at least one of the passages challenging Calvinism. (Quotations are from the New...

Why did Adam and Eve sin if there was no sin?

I have a theory on the age-old question. If Adam and Eve were supposed to live in paradise for eternity, and there was no sin, why did they sin? Most people reply bluntly with "free will". But if that were the case, wouldn't the same argument be made when we get to heaven we will have free will...

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

The way the gospel works. In the gospels, Jesus tells us to preach the gospel. Preaching means to announce. So when people hear the gospel followed by whoever believes has eternal life, those who believe know God saved them. And when told to repent and undergo baptism, it confirms their faith as...

Freewill Offerings Are Evidence of Free Will

From time to time on CF, Calvinists or predestinationists tell us that there is no such thing as free will. We are told that belief in free will is the result of muddled theology, poor scholarship and bad philosophy. Despite these claims, the term "freewill," spelled as one word, occurs a...

Question for atheists regarding "the problem of evil"

I find it amusing when atheists ask about the "problem of evil" because it reminds me an awful lot of a cigarette smoker coming up to a non-smoker and asking "Why do I smoke?" and the non smoker is like uh... don't. Let me get right to the point. Most of the terrible evil in this life is...

OSAS does not survive the "sola scriptura" test. Now what?

And "yet" not one single verse saying that all who are born again will "persevere firm to the end" or that those who "fall from grace are saved anyway". They are if they are still born-again. If they have lost their salvation "severed from Christ" and "fallen from Grace" Gal 5:4... then they...

If I don't completely agree with predestination, am I still saved?

I've studied the Bible endlessly on this topic, and I came to the conclusion that obviously God calls us first, but then it's up to us to accept the free gift of salvation. I've studied some verses that seem to contradict the Calvinistic view of predestination. “The Lord is not slow in keeping...

"I didn't choose to be here." Is this thought sinful?

Hi! I am new in Christ and have been with the family for a month now. :) Sometimes I struggle with my thinking and whether or not the thoughts that I have are sinful. The thought that I have had all of my life whenever it comes to religion and the requirements for living is "I never chose to be...

God values our free will more than he loves us

I was thinking and I kind of had a revelation. I think another reason why things like abuse and rape make me so angry, other than concern the people it happens to, is because I feel like I would lose my faith if that happened to me. I often feel guilty for all the blessings I have, knowing...
