  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh I guess “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself” only practice when all the stars aligned in my favor.

I find that inspiring - share what you are personally doing to help the refugees. I love people who live their faith.

Vice President Kamala Harris: favorability rating U.S. 2021 | Statista

" as of August 2021, 38 percent of U.S. adults surveyed said they had a very unfavorable opinion of the Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. On the other hand, 44 percent said they had either a very favorable or a somewhat favorable opinion of the first female Vice President."

more favorable opinions than unfavorable
not totally beaten down yet
No. And I would agree that she's been smart enough to keep a low profile lest those numbers plummet like Biden's have. It's easier to keep people saying that they "approve" of an office-holder's performance if they cannot point to much on which to base their judgment.

But in the end, her record in office was what we were discussing, not how she's kept her nose clean by doing next to nothing as Vice-President.

By the way also, if you gave us the question as it was asked of the people polled, we'd call that a "push poll" since it virtually directs the respondent to the answer the polling service is attempting to get.

What doesn’t the left frame as a moral issue?

It's hypocritical isn't it?

If a Christian were to cite their Christian morals as the reason they want a certain law or policy, they immediately point out how they have no right to impose their morals on others.

Yet they try to do the same thing all the time. Immigration is just one example of many.

Roman's 13-

Obey the government, for God is the One who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the law of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow.

You could say that we love them enough by not seriously punishing them for disobeying the law.

5 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

It’s good to see a self-proclaim atheist using scripture. May be some day the world of God will change the heart.

I could present some scripture here to explain but what is the point , unless you believe “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” , it wouldn’t make any difference.

but i would end with this

Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.

28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.

29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’

30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.

32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

35 “
This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

Do you find housing for refugees?
Do you participate in feeding programs?

Nobody has forgiven any of my debts. I pay what I owe.

However, if I ever seek refuge in one of the wretched nations these people come from, and they not only provide it....but argue that I should be given all the charity they have...I'll gladly reconsider my position on this topic.

Consider, for example, the penalties for illegal immigration into Mexico....

Mexico's Immigration Laws Mexico has stricter immigration laws than the United States of America. UNDER MEXICO'S IMMIGRATION LAW (GENERAL LAW ON POPULATION): • Mexico welcomes only foreigners who will be useful to Mexican society: - Foreigners are admitted into Mexico "according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress." (Article 32) - Immigration officials must "ensure" that "immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance" and for their dependents. (Article 34) - Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets "the equilibrium of the national demographics," when foreigners are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when "they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy." (Article 37) - The Secretary of Governance may "suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest." (Article 38) • Mexican authorities must keep track of every single person in the country: - Federal, local and municipal police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities upon request, i.e., to assist in the arrests of illegal immigrants. (Article 73) - A National Population Registry keeps track of "every single individual who comprises the population of the country," and verifies each individual's identity. (Articles 85 and 86) - A national Catalog of Foreigners tracks foreign tourists and immigrants (Article 87), and assigns each individual with a unique tracking number (Article 91). • Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be imprisoned: - Foreigners with fake immigration papers may be fined or imprisoned. (Article 116) - Foreigners who sign government documents "with a signature that is false or different from that which he normally uses" are subject to fine and imprisonment. (Article 116 • Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as felons: - Foreigners who fail to obey a deportation order are to be punished. (Article 117) - Foreigners who are deported from Mexico and attempt to re-enter the country without authorization can be imprisoned for up to 10 years. (Article 118) - Foreigners who violate the terms of their visa may be sentenced to up to six years in prison (Articles 119, 120 and 121). Foreigners who misrepresent the terms of their visa while in Mexico – such as working with out a permit – can also be imprisoned. • Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population says, - "A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally." (Article 123) - Foreigners with legal immigration problems may be deported from Mexico instead of being imprisoned. (Article 125) - Foreigners who "attempt against national sovereignty or security" will be deported. (Article 126) • Mexicans who help illegal aliens enter the country are themselves considered criminals under the law: - A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison. (Article 127) - Shipping and airline companies that bring undocumented foreigners into Mexico will be fined. (Article 132).

Not only are the penalties much harsher than ours....the criteria for acceptance are much more stringent.

If we, for example, only allowed those immigrants to stay who were capable of providing for themselves....we would already disqualify nearly everyone who entered this year. The vast majority who enter are in debt.

That's without even mentioning the 2 years in prison for entering illegally.

This is not the place to discuss this kind of personal thing, but as you keep insisting, I will share just few things. As I have written in the past , my parents were missionary in south east Asia over 40 years – India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. I have sister and brother-in-law severing in South east Asia today, two of my brothers and their spouses are serving in South east Asia. I am the only one in the family who chose not to be in full-time ministry , but I spent most of my childhood in South East- Asia. As a result I have grown to love the people in South east Asia and know many local and American missionaries in that part of the world. . I have spent many summers in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh. ABWE has a hospital in Malumghat , Bangladesh. ABWE’s main focus is local Bangladeshis but they do work with Rohinga refugees in Bangladesh. Financially and many summers I spent with ABWE in Malumghat Bangladesh. But honestly I never worked with Rohinga refugees directly but whenever I visit Bangladesh, I help out any way I can in ABWE missions ( they actually tell me where my skills are needed) . After high-school when I moved back to US for college, since then I have spent almost every summer in South East Asia- Chittagong Bangladesh, Kolkata, India and few other places in South east Asia working with ABWE. Unfortunately I haven’t been to South east Asia since summer of 2016. If God willing I will go back and spend future summer in that part of the world.

May be this is not what you are looking for, may be you looking for - did I open home for undocumented in USA, did I help afgan refuge in USA. No , I have not done any of that.

As I said , if I present some scripture here to explain the Biblical point of view about “ Love thy neighbor” unless you believe “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” , it wouldn’t make any difference. And I was right , it didn’t make any difference because you keep insisting no one paid your debit.

The central tenet of Christianity is – we all have sinned / committed Crime, yet Christ paid the ultimate penalty for my crime. As a Christian I have done absolutely ZERO to pay the penalty for my crime. If you can’t accept this central tenet of Christianity, you wouldn’t understand the point of “forgiveness” in Christianity I am trying to explain.

Tiberius...you didn't respond to the scripture I quoted because you can't. Christianity certainly doesn't approve breaking the law.

More importantly though, you missed the point that anyone, even a godless atheist, can quote scripture to support their argument.

That's why quoting scripture is rather pointless.
