So I need to desire?

Do we need to understand the gospel formula just right?

Hebrews 11:5-6
"5By faith Enoch was taken up so that he did not see death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him."

Matthew 5:6
"6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."

For the one who truly longs to become fully obedient, yet who finds himself still mired in Romans 7, doing the things he truly hates, God is about to move mountains to awaken such a one as to HOW to walk in holiness and righteousness all the days of His life.

I sure hope so...

If the Father sees us in Christ, He’s pleased. There’s nothing we need to do.

Including no need to understand the above...or is that the only thing we need?

Heres desire

2 Cr 7:11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Since you give no explanation for posting your verses, I have to guess at the reason.

Here it looks like faith is needed. That’s the work of God. And by faith we are justified.

2 Corinthians 7
"11Consider what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what zeal, what vindication! In every way you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter."

I believe the above translation is "longing": Cognate: 1972 epipóthēsis – earnest (yearning) affection. See 1971(epipotheō).
Strong's Greek: 1972. ἐπιπόθησις (epipothésis) -- longing

Good one!

The gospel plus anything is no gospel.

So, why all the fuss to understand this?

*So,you are saying that you need to do something, namely, have the correct view of the gospel?

There's a difference between being judicially not guilty with all charges dropped and a relational aspect that is daily walked out. It does grieve the Spirit when we disobey and sin. He is not relationally unaware of our sins and struggles. However He has promised never to leave or forsake us if we are genuinely saved and struggling. The born again believer will triumph in Christ eventually. Sometimes people have to crawl through the mud in order to see how good it was back at Father's house..

You asked if we need desire, so those verses I quoted had to do with desire, which, as you pointed out, is connected to faith.

True or False

God’s pleasure with us is not based on our performance.

While it is true that Abraham believed God, so he was credited as righteous, it is also true that Abraham believed God, so he didn't hesitate the obey God's command to offer Isaac, so the same faith by which he was justified was also expressed as obedience. So it is not the obedience itself that God is pleased by as though we have to have a good enough performance, but that God is pleased by a faith that is expressed by obedience.

Longing yearning and desire are pretty much synonymously shown in both OT and NT as well as in secular dictionaries

The gospel plus anything is no gospel.
Jesus said that if we obey His commandments, we are His friends.

Do we just want eternal life or do we want Jesus and for Him to be pleased with us? The answer to that question is the razor’s edge between life and death, heaven and hell.

It is one thing if we want to obey but do not know how. It is another altogether, however, if we want all He offers but do not want to lose our lives to find His in us and to see it grow.

Blessings,

Gids

I’m not fussing. I was just curious to see who thinks they need to do something besides believe, and who rests in the finished work of Christ.

Obeying doesn’t make us His friends. That would be law, not gospel.

I’m not fussing. I was just curious to see who thinks they need to do something besides believe, and who rests in the finished work of Christ.
Believing is not mental ascent in agreeing Jesus rose from the dead. It is loving light and hating darkness.

On the final day, Jesus will look past all our works or lack of them, all our words or lack of them, and stare straight into the thoughts and intents of our hearts. That ought to terrify some, but sadly, for most it does not. Ears to hear, they hear not. Eyes to see they see not, for ultimately, it is those who hate their lives and long to lose them who will hear the blessed words “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

Blessings,

Gideon
