  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And “the father ‘of spirits’ is God.” Heb 12:9. I guess my opinion is that discerning whether or not something is of God’s leading or Satan’s, requires someone capable of knowing that difference to begin with. I’m of the persuasion that most here can’t, from what I’ve witnessed over the years, and that’s why they bring out the kundalini videos when the Holy Spirit isn’t discernible to them. It seems that a soulish judgement based upon what they see in the flesh, is as close as they can relate.
I'm a puppet and God pulls my strings. one puppet may not understand how or why God moves the strings of other puppets. I'm not too concerned about how God moves me. as an observer, I trust God cause he moved me to trust him. So for, he hasn't moved me to babble and flap like fishes . I don't see any purpose for that

IOW you had no scripture to support your last post? And you apparently had nothing to refute my scriptural response to your post either? So now it digresses to ‘flapping’ your....keyboard... about fishes. :( Oh, BTW do you know what the language of man was before God came down and confused them? Nobody does!!! But you want to know what languages ALL on earth now speaks BIBLICALLY? Would it not be the very ‘babble’ like you just wrote your last post in? :( I don’t agree with you on one point...God didn’t move you to speak like you did. But then, I personally think there are two sources of ‘string pulling’ in our Christian struggles.

I seek Gods spirit all the time but am not sure how to stir it up again.
How big is the Pentecostal church that you now go to? Is the lady who first led you into being baptized by the Holy Spirit still around?

Have you talked to anyone there about this? Are you in a home group? Do you have an accountability partner or a pastor to help? IOW this doesn’t seem to be a theological understanding issue. Unless you have an unanswered question that is. It sounds like you just need some personal help with activation again.

I've noticed a number of times, comments like 'the above'. So my question is, why is it 'your wife's church' and not "our church"?

My wife is Pentecostal and has the Pentecostal / Charismatic gifts..... but I haven't been given them yet..... so I can't as of yet call myself a member of her church.

I identify myself as Messianic Gentile.....

Lamb7, everyone who is saved is baptized in the Holy Spirit immediately at conversion. To say that you need more after salvation is to say that the Holy Spirit was insufficient. You are empowered by Him when you read God's Word and spend time in prayer and worship.

You can not be a Christian and not have the Holy Spirit. That's the problem with pentecostal and charismatic teaching. You may spend your whole life trying to attain the Holy Spirit like all these other people around you are getting, but never reach it. And it will torment you. But, if the "seeker" was already saved, they've already had the Holy Spirit the whole time. It's terrible.

From my experience that is false though, i´m not judging or anything just that after you are saved you are born again receive the new ´alive´ spiritual life but many times people are not filled with the Holy spirit like the bible says ´be filled with the Spirit´, they have it inside, but not filled until it happens by prayer or something. Being filled with the spirit is something that every christian should seek. Is essential to live the Christian life. Also the ´filling´ can ´wear off´ by our bad character or sins. Or the holy spirit can leave you (not entirely the filling i mean) if you commit grave sins.

Interesting. So is it a requirement of your wife’s church that you ‘be’ Pentecostal to be a member?

I am of the persuasion that I don’t have any Holy Spirit gifts. Although He has manifested all but one of His 9 giftings ‘through me’ as a yielded vessel I also don’t really think my spirit’s prayer language was a gift, as much as it was an ‘enabling’ which was dependent upon me and ‘taking/receiving’ ‘by Faith’, that which God has promised to all he has called to be His children . IOW I don’t relate to you ‘waiting’ to be ‘given it’.

I had no intention of responding anymore, but I think you have a misunderstanding. Here are three scriptures on having the Holy Spirit:

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:13, NASB)

However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. (Romans 8:9, NASB)

13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,
14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13, NASB)

It seems to me that we are sufficiently baptized in the Holy Spirit at the very moment of salvation. Does the Holy Spirit only partially dwell in the believer? We are empowered and strengthened by spending time in God's word, not by going crazy.

You know, through church history after the apostles, the groups that were known for tongues and crazy behavior were always cult like. Examples are the montanists, the Irvinites, shakers, and the group headed by Charles H Parham. He was a drunkard and homosexual. His group was what led to azusa street.

I´m pretty sure (because i have experienced it that) most people don´t get filled with the Holy spirit when born again some do but the majority won´t. It´s something we need to seek.
It can be a separate experience from born again / baptism. Yes you have the Holy spirit when you are born again but not at its fullest!. Paul said to already being believers: Don´t drink alcohol but be filled with the Sprit. We need him to live the Christian life. And this is not reading the bible too much or something but actually being filled like a vessel with the Holy spirit.
I also don´t agree with crazy behaviour but don´t throw everyone who believes in tongues with that kind of thing.
See this about Paul:
´So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

He was already a brother but was not filled with the Holy spirit.

And this ones:
´And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.´

´And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.´

´And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.´

18 Bible verses about Being Filled With The Spirit

God bless.
Also i don´t know what to think about the fire tunnel thing. The bible says to not lay your hand carelessly.

But you did so here we go again.

Here are three scriptures on having the Holy Spirit:
Only one of which even has the words Holy Spirit in it. And not one says anything about the baptism which always refers to being immersed ‘into’ something. The only spirit anyone gets at initial salvation is the spirit of Christ IN YOU. Oh wait, your second verse even says spirit of Christ. Which is the only spirit Jesus had until He was baptized with water and then the Holy Spirit at the age of 30.

It seems to me that we are sufficiently baptized in the Holy Spirit at the very moment of salvation. Does the Holy Spirit only partially dwell in the believer? We are empowered and strengthened by spending time in God's word, not by going crazy.
You know, through churches history after the apostles, the groups that were known for tongues and crazy behavior were always cult like.
Oh, do you mean like on the day of Pentecost when unbelievers called the disciples “drunk” and how Paul warned that “Ungifted/unlearned” Christians, such as yourself, would call Charismatics “ mad”....or should I say “crazy” which is your preferred word here? IOW sounds like self condemnation to me.

Examples are the montanists, the Irvinites, shakers, and the group headed by Charles H Parham. He was a drunkard and homosexual. His group was what led to azusa street.
Now this accusation actually saddens me coming from anyone even claiming to be Christian. It didn’t take any time at all on google to prove just how far you reached to make your drunken and homosexual claims. You’re more convinced than “unbiased. history” history even admits. BUT even if it was true, was either sin worse than adultery and murder from ‘the man after God’s heart’ BIBLICALLY. Or what about a murderer of many Christians like Saul. Hoping you do know he became PAUL who wrote more of the NT than anyone else.

I was hoping you could keep from coming back, too. The body of Christ needs the truth and not then indoctrination of nominal Christianity IMO.

When born again the Holy Spirit lives in you so you have that what you do not have is the filling.

Id appreciate some scriptural support for what has only been your ‘opinion’. I refuted his verses and quoted in part other familiar verses to him, as well as others who’ve been here a bit longer than you.

Hostility” you think? I’ve been called drunk, crazy, a babbyler, a gibberish speaker and enough other things that never receive a “don’t act so hostile” from the opposing side. So your “sense” really sounds more like nonsense from my POV. Maybe you think that “contending for the faith” against such hostile charges as those being laid against me should look like “boxing against the air”, but Paul didn’t and I agree with him in this situation.

Well i was feeling that about how you write nothing more.
And this?
We were sealed when we believed. The Holy spirit is included when converting. But usually not the filling.

13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

I gathered as much concerning your comment. Realizing you’re new and this is ‘the controversial forum’ you still have things to learn, just being new here. So may good be with you.

Again, just your opinion. Sorry but scripture says “that which is born (again) is born of the Spirit.” A rebirth which makes your spirit holy because “he that is joined to the Lord (Jesus) is ONE spirit.” Not your spirit, the spirit of Christ and the Holy Spirit, just “one spirit”.

Your use of ‘conversion’ is also nominal IMO. There is regeneration first of the spirit which makes you a saved “brethren”. But in James 5:19-20 it says the one being ‘converted’ as a sinner is a brethren which ‘we save’ from the error of his ways. There’s regeneration for the spirit, renewal of the soul and conversion of our walk in the flesh.

13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
Conversion has nothing to do with ‘you IN Christ’. That is again, regeneration. ‘Christ IN you’ come as Christ is “formed in you” according to scripture

Hillsage, don't you ever just have a conversation with someone? You're down talking everybody. It seems like you're just looking for reasons to jump all over other people.

We all have arguments about the topic. Why treat everyone else like they're below you? Why would you treat other believers like this while claiming to be so full of the Spirit?

So many people, including myself have found the pentecostal/charismatic world to be inconsistent with scripture. Do you question someone like Sarah Young over her Jesus Calling book? If all those words are actually from Christ himself, should they all be added to the Bible?

During all my years in the pentecostal church, when someone would speak in tongues, it was always said that it was God's words coming through. You could tell by how the speaker would speak in first person. If that is literally God's words, shouldn't every tongues occasion be added to the Bible? Is God's Word not as authoritative now as it was back then?

What the difference between having the holy spirit when believe, and having the spirit of Christ and the holy Spirit when believing. Why are we discussing anyway?

Edit: I don´t know how much human Christ was that is a mistery right? the bible says ´God with us´ in a human body.
