A medical examiner has ruled the death of a Haitian asylum seeker after being released from federal custody a homicide. An attorney representing her family said he expects her relatives to sue Immigration and Customs Enforcement in connection with her death.

In the Pentecost service our preacher reminded us that His presence with us does not need to be invited by us. Because in the Spirit He is always with us. We need to accept the gift and just get on board in obedience. Great stuff, so I thought about the various gifts of God in Jesus and spelled them out for the preacher's pleasure afterwards.
Prophecy of His coming, Incarnation, Miracle-working, Cross, Atonement, Resurrection, Ascension, Intercession, Return, Judgement, Shared Glory. All greeted with audible approval, APART FROM ONE. Silence, then slight embarassment and clear discomfort.
Because like most preachers on the rota he dislikes or certainly downplays the atonement of Christ, by which the justified anger of God towards rebellious man was turned aside in Christ's death. This wonderful truth that gives assurance of God's acceptance and love (and makes sense of all those bloody animal sacrifices in the OT) and enables us without guilt or soul-searching or insecurity to follow Him in brotherhood and in freedom.

So Much Fakery

In our world today, among so much of what is being called “Christian,” there is so much fakery, lies, false gospels, false gifts of “The Spirit,” and false teachers of “The Word.” So many people are creating their own “God” in their own minds for their own purposes. So many of them are adding on to or they are taking away from the Scriptures in order to justify their own lifestyles. And so many are falsely attributing to The Spirit of God what is not of The Spirit at all, but that which is of the flesh, and/or which is of Satan.

So we have a lot that is being done in the name of God, and in the name of Jesus Christ, and in the name of the Holy Spirit which is of the flesh and/or of the devil. So we need to know the gifts of the Spirit and how they are to be used, and we need to know the fruit of the Spirit, which includes “self-control.” So if you are being led to do something that makes you or your body do something over which you have no control, that is not of the Holy Spirit. And if what you do is contrary to the will of God, it is not of God.

But here we have another issue. Since so many people are abusing the “gifts of the Spirit” or they are creating their own “gifts,” claiming that they are of the Spirit of God, when clearly they are not, we have a group of people who are denying some of the primary gifts of the Spirit, teaching that they no longer exist. And they use some Scripture references out of context to try to prove their point, but it is not valid. For in the last days God’s daughters and sons will prophesy, dream dreams, and see visions. But we must test them.

Discerning The Gifts

“Spiritual gifts” is clearly a controversial topic, for things which are of the Spirit of God are not always easily discerned. And so many of the gifts are being abused and misused. And I believe that is one of the reasons why a certain group of people at some point in time decided that certain gifts no longer exist, because they are not things which they can control or easily explain or discern. So many, thus, have stayed with ones which they can control, like gifts of teaching, giving, mercy, serving, and leading others.


So, we are neither to deny all which are being called “gifts of the Spirit,” nor are we to embrace everything being called “gifts of the Spirit” or “prophecy.” But honestly, I believe many people stay away from such things as these because it is so much work to test everything, to take the time to search the Scriptures to see if something is or is not of God, and to see if it contradicts the Scriptures or if it supports the teachings of God. So they “play it safe,” by just ignoring what they regard as just “too hard” to understand.

Applying This to Today

Now, what was written here in the Scriptures was during a time in history when people did not have television, radio, and the internet, like we do. So, what was written to them was to be applied to them and to the people who were in their inner circle, i.e. in their Christian fellowships. So this is not saying that we have to try to discern every “prophecy” we hear people speak in the name of Jesus if they are on television, radio, or on the internet, and if they are not in our inner circle, unless they are influencing our inner circle.

But if there is someone who is very popular among the people of my nation or in the world, and if the masses appear to be following after them and what they are teaching, and if the Lord leads me to do so, I will take the time to search out what they are teaching, and to compare it to what the Scriptures are teaching, and then to share what the Lord has taught me in the hope that it will keep at least some people from being deceived and from following after the lies, lies which might send them to hell, especially.

But please do not deny the gifts of the Spirit just because a group of people are denying them or are abusing them. The Lord gave us these gifts for a reason, that we might help one another to grow to maturity in our walks of faith in obedience to our Lord and to his commands. In what I write each day, I am exercising, in the power of The Holy Spirit who lives within me, the gifts of God within me which I am to use for the salvation of human souls from hell and for the encouragement of the body of Christ, his church.

I agree with that, as I said above, that is a reformed position, but it is separate from Calvinism. Calvinism is strictly a soteriology theology.

However, we are somewhat off-topic. My original post was to speak to the very biased POV of the OP, who feels that people who believe they are saved again subscribe to cheap grace.

During an interview with Us Weekly, the actor and comedian said he remains amazed by the lasting appeal of "Toy Story," which debuted in 1995. The actor noted that few people involved with the original film anticipated the cultural phenomenon it would become.

You are correct that you did not specifically say that the first words everyone says should be used instead of the more clinical and inclusive language that you mocked.

I did not mock you - I mocked the idea.

I have not attacked you but the idea that "mama" and "dada" should be used instead of "gestating" and "non-gestating" - and I stand by this. Also that if one doesn't understand what pronouns are maybe shouldn't pontificate on the importance of them.

If "snarky jabs" on ideas are too upsetting, then use the ignore function. Or - here's an idea! - treat others how you wish to be treated. Post with respect and good faith and that will more likely be returned to you.

What a leanthy load of nonsense.

Sansue Bee Vang, 58, was found guilty of eight counts of child molestation and three counts of rape following a seven-day trial in February. As part of his sentence, Vang is also required to register as a sex offender, the Butte County district attorney’s office said in a news release.

At the sentencing, Judge Philip Heithecker heard testimony and statements from five of the six named victims that Vang was convicted of abusing.

Vang is the founder, creator and leader of a Hmong religious organization called Kev Ntseeg Leej Niam Kee Tiam Vaj Lis Thum, which can loosely be translated to “belief in the mother.” The organization was originally founded in Appleton, Wis., where it gained a following, and was moved to Fresno in 2015. In 2020, Vang selected families from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Carolina and Fresno to relocate to Oroville to build a temple at the base of Table Mountain, according to the release.

All of the victims in the case were members of the religious organization. Vang was referred to as the leader or “prophet” of the organization and created the readings, songs and the requirements for the movement, authorities said.

On March 15, 2019, Ksor Ruk, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the People’s Court of Gia Lai Province. Ksor was accused of being allegedly involved with FULRO, an exiled group in America, and charged with ‘undermining the state’s unity policy’, Article 116 of the 2015 Criminal Code.

Ksor Ruk, a Montagnard (Jrai) Christian, was first imprisoned in 2007, charged with ‘undermining the state’s unity policy’. However, after being released, he continued his missionary work in his local area. He is married with five children. His youngest child was just one month old when he was arrested in October 2018.

On April 10, 2018, Montagnard Church of Christ leader Y Pum Bya was arrested during a police raid at a church member’s home during an unregistered church meeting. He was accused of spreading false information about Vietnam’s violations of minority rights, and religious freedom, in order to convince people to join efforts to establish an independent state.

At the police station, he was interrogated, tortured, and forced to sign a statement agreeing to stop worshipping in a group while belonging to the Gospel Missionary Church.

Y Pum Bya had previously been threatened with arrest for his religious activities. On March 15, 2017, he requested permission to register unregistered religious activities in Ea Dron Commune, but his request was rejected and police threatened him with arrest and imprisonment if he continued to engage in his religious activities.

On January 31, 2019, Y Pum Bya was sentenced to 14 years in prison and four years probation, for ‘undermining national unity policy’ under Article 87/1999. He is currently imprisoned at Gia Trung Prison in Gia Lai Province.

President Trump announced late Friday that U.S. Southern Command (Southcom) launched a strike that killed the leader of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.

A “swift and lethal kinetic strike” killed Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, also known as Niño Guerrero, Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. Tren de Aragua is a U.S.-designated terror organization.

“This action was coordinated closely with our friends in Venezuela, with whom we are working very well,” Trump’s post reads. “As a result, Tren de Aragua terrorists no longer have safe haven in Venezuela or anywhere else and, under my leadership, we will find these vicious murderers and drugs lords anytime, anyplace, and send them to the depths of hell where they belong.”

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher and Eurasia Group and GZERO Media Founder Ian Bremmer stated that OPEC’s cartel has effectively been ended, which is beneficial, and that the region building pipelines will help undercut Iran’s power.

Bremmer said, “OPEC is over. The Emiratis have pulled out. And that means that they want to produce as much oil as humanly possible because they don’t want that to be a stranded asset. They know it’s not going to be worth so much over time. They want to become a global node as a city-state. That’s — by the way, that’s a monopoly, it’s a cartel over energy, over fossil fuel energy that is not good for anybody. Glad to see them go. The Americans are the largest producer in the world right now. … That’s a big thing that has happened, not because Trump was planning it, but it matters.”

A federal judge appointed by former President Barack Obama handed President Donald Trump a significant legal victory on Friday, rejecting a last-minute effort to block a highly anticipated UFC event scheduled to take place on the White House South Lawn this weekend.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta denied an emergency request from two Virginia residents who sought a temporary restraining order to stop UFC Freedom 250, a major mixed martial arts event tied to celebrations surrounding America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. The plaintiffs argued that the event violated federal regulations and would damage the character of historic public spaces, including the White House grounds and the Lincoln Memorial.

Judge Mehta, however, concluded that neither plaintiff had demonstrated the legal standing necessary to pursue the case in federal court. In his ruling, Mehta found that the individuals failed to show they would suffer a concrete and particularized injury as a result of the event.

“The threatened injury must be certainly impending to constitute injury in fact,” Mehta wrote while explaining why the plaintiffs’ concerns did not meet the threshold required by law.

However, this innovation in maritime rescue operations was soon overshadowed by the U.S. military’s assessment that the helicopter was shot down by an Iranian drone — Iran’s most direct attack in weeks against the U.S. military.

According to details revealed by President Trump himself, there seems to be no doubt that Iran was responsible for downing the helicopter. Trump said that the Iranian drone “lodged between the two pilots” and caught fire, but that it did not explode. Trump described the survival of the two pilots as a “miracle.” In other words, Iran not only shot at an American helicopter, but it tried to kill American soldiers, whose lives were only saved by Iran’s faulty tech.

Days earlier — June 3, to be precise — The Wall Street Journal reported that “President Trump has told aides privately that he would consider ending the ceasefire with Iran if Tehran kills American troops.”

The attempt to kill American troops that followed days later could be a coincidence, but there is another interpretation: someone in Iran does not want the ceasefire to hold.
