  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeesh

I tried to find a clear explanation a couple of times from someone I know who speaks both Arabic and English...I don't think he had a clear answer. I tried looking up the linguistic complexities of Arabic and English....and honestly, English looks more complicated. I guess Arabic is highly contextual but...so is English. You can change the meaning of English sentences just by emphasis on a different word. English has a tense that only 3 or 4 languages have. I've got a lot more sympathy for English as second language speakers since I learned how difficult it really is.

Arabic, for whatever reason, hasn't changed much in hundreds of years.

I've come to think it's the lack of apologetics. Christianity got big through conversion, then legal mandate, then conquest and localization. Islam was spread through violence...and oppression of non-muslims. It prevents widespread denominational changes with punishment of death. Apostates are also killed. This means there's rarely any time or place before the last couple hundred years where Islam needed any defense of its faith...of its beliefs...so that history of apologetics that exists in Christianity doesn't seem to be very old in Islam and I suspect most adherents rarely have their beliefs challenged.

I don't typically like oversimplification of large worldview type belief systems...but I'd say the big contrast between Christianity and Islam is found in the moral character of its founders. Jesus comes upon the stoning of an adultress and says "He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her". He exemplifies self sacrifice as the highest good.

Muhammad comes upon an adultress who seeks punishment...and commands she be stoned to death.

In both cases, we see what adherence to the faith means in each religion. One is about forgiveness, humility, and self sacrifice. The other is about strict obedience to the word of god.
It's really mind-blowing how different the religions really are, even if they came from the same source (Judaism).

Migrant released on $500 bail in child rape case is arrested by ICE agents

Many have been flown in by the Biden/Harris administration. They refuse to tell the American people how many. You're right, he came in legally as per the article below, however:
Being allowed to fly in and being flown in are different things. That statement is misleading.
"U.S. Customs and Border Protection admitted Alvarez into the United States lawfully June 26, 2023, in New York, New York. However, Alvarez violated the terms of his lawful admittance.
The Rockland Police Department arrested Alvarez on March 14. Later that day, the Hingham District Court in Hingham arraigned Alvarez for aggravated rape of a child, 10 years age difference. Later that day, ERO Boston lodged an immigration detainer against Alvarez with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.
On June 27, however, Plymouth County Superior Court of Brockton refused to honor ERO Boston’s immigration detainer and released Alvarez from custody on a $500 bond."
As noted in the post you were replying to, the defendant (Alvarez) was released after a hearing because the evidence against him was so weak.

Jehovahs Witnesses folks

As a naturalist, I'm skeptical of most all religious doctrines. JW's can believe whatever they want. But refusing blood products--even if a child is bleeding out from a life-threatening injury--is going too far. Although, there are synthetic blood substitutes which I think are acceptable.

Not to get off topic, but JW's are more reasonable than Christian Scientists. Who reject any medical treatment.
Christian Science numbers are diminishing even though there is a congregation in my city. Last I checked, I think they are around 500,000. They used to be very popular in Hollywood. Joan Crawford was a convert, for example, but apparently still drank vodka heavily.

How old was Dinah when Shechem forced himself on her?

Gen 30:

19 And Leah conceived again, and she bore Jacob a sixth son. 20 Then Leah said, “God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons.” So she called his name Zebulun. 21Afterward she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.
Dinah was born before Joseph:

22 Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb. 23 She conceived and bore a son and said, “God has taken away my reproach.” 24 And she called his name Joseph, saying, “May the LORD add to me another son!”
Dinah was probably some months older than Joseph.

Jacob took his family, leaving Laban and Paddan-aram in Gen 31. He wrestled with God in Gen 32. He met Esau in and financially arrived at Canaan in the city of Shechem in Gen 33.

Genesis 34:

1 Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the women of the land.
How old was Dinah?

She was old enough to have some social independence.

2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he seized her and lay with her and humiliated her. 3 And his soul was drawn to Dinah the daughter of Jacob. He loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her. 4So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, “Get me this girl for my wife.”
She was old enough to get married.

Strong's Hebrew: 5291. נַעֲרָה (naarah) — 63 Occurrences

In terms of age, the word was ambiguous. Brown-Driver-Briggs:

1 girl, damsel; … especially as marriageable; … young widow
Keil and Delitzsch:

Dinah was probably between 13 and 15 at the time. … According to Genesis 37:2, Joseph was sold by his brethren when he was 17 years old, i.e., in the 11th year after Jacob's return from Mesopotamia, as he was born in the 14th year of Jacob's service with Laban.
(Note: This view is generally supported by the earlier writers, such as Demetrius, Petavius (Hengst. Diss.), etc.; only they reckon Dinah's age at 16, placing her birth in the 14th year of Jacob's service.)
How old was Dinah when Shechem forced himself on her?

I'll guess 13.

Man In God’s Triune Image

Man is created in God’s image to be the human likeness of who God is and what God does as one divine being called God. Man is created in the human likeness of God by having a human mind to express his will, and by having a human mouth to speak his word, and by having human hands to do his work. These three human elements of Man are designed to reflect and express the three divine members of God.

The will of Man is expressed through his mind, the word of Man is expressed through his mouth, and the work of Man is expressed through his hands, even as the will of God is expressed through the Father, the word of God is expressed through the Son, and the work of God is expressed through the Holy Spirit.

The one Man expresses himself through the will of his mind, through the word of his mouth, and through the work of his hands, even as the one God expresses Himself through the will of the Father, through the word of the Son, and through the work of the Holy Spirit.

The Father expresses God's will, the Son expresses God's word, and the Holy Spirit expresses God's work. The will of the Father, and the word of the Son, and the work of the Holy Spirit are the three divine expressions through which the one God makes Himself known, just as the will of the mind, and the word of the mouth, and the work of the hands are the three human expressions through which the one Man makes himself known.

And just as the will of the Father, and the word of the Son, and the work of the Holy Spirit exist and function in perfect harmony as one divine being called God, even so the will of the mind, and the word of the mouth, and the work of the hands exist and function in perfect harmony as one human being called Man.

Man, therefore, is created in God’s image to be the human likeness of God’s triune nature by the way in which the one Man expresses himself and makes himself known through the will of his mind, through the word of his mouth, and through the work of his hands, even as the one God expresses Himself and makes Himself known through the will of the Father, through the word of the Son, and through the work of the Holy Spirit.

But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

Peace in Christ.

Again…..everyone who is believing “into” Him should not perish (not mortally die from this earth) but should have life age-lasting (continued mortal living for the duration of this present evil age that we are in). The truth of the gospel is about bringing life to the mortal body so that we might continue to live here in this earth without perishing away from it.

John 3:
14 ‘And as Moses did lift up the serpent in the wilderness, so it behoveth the Son of Man to be lifted up,
15 that every one who is believing in (INTO) him may not perish, but may have life age-during,

16 for God did so love the world, that His Son — the only begotten — He gave, that every one who is believing in (INTO) him may not perish, but may have life age-during.

We are to live an age-lasting life and believe INTO Him…as in a point to be reached. We are to live and believe into His coming again....never mortally perishing from this earth reaching unto the last day of this age.

We remain alive here in this earth (via having an age-lasting life) until His coming. We which are “ALIVE AND REMAIN” unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede those who had fallen “asleep” in Jesus. “Sleep” = mortal death. Because of their mortal death, they have an age-lasting intermission from this earth until the last day of this age. They experience an age-lasting death (sleep) until the "last trump" moment where they will then be raised up and given another body.

They believed in Jesus but did not hear the truth of the gospel because they listened to false prophets whose minds were blinded to the understanding of it.

Jesus both died and rose again so that He may be Lord to both the “dead” (those believers of Him who mortally perished...who "sleep") and the “living” (those believers who hear the truth of the gospel and inherit an age-lasting life and never mortally perish unto His coming). The living will never "sleep" but will continue to live in this earth throughout this age until the last trump moment where their mortal bodies put on immortality.

The “living” believe INTO Him. They never mortally perish until His coming when those who had mortally died (“sleep”) come with Him as God will bring them with Him (which happens AT the last day of this age).

"Concerning them which are asleep" = concerning them which had mortally died from this earth temporarily.

1Th 4:13-15 KJV
(13) But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
(14) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

(15) For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Even though a believer in Him mortally perished, he shall live. He shall be raised up AT the last day of this age. There are 2 resurrections of believers being highlighted here in John 11:25-26.

John 11:
24 Martha saith to him, ‘I have known that he will rise again, in the rising again (resurrection) in the last day;’
25 Jesus said to her, ‘I am the rising again (resurrection), and the life; he who is believing in me, even if he may die, shall live;

But, everyone who is LIVING and believing into Him shall not die….into the age. They will never mortally perish into the age and will reach the last day of this age never having died.

26 and every one who is living and believing in me shall not die — to the age;

This is the truth of the gospel that we are to believe in.

Yet, it seems Martha did not really confess that belief in the truth of the gospel. She believed that He is the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming to the world.

27 believest thou this?’ she saith to him, ‘Yes, sir, I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming to the world.’

“Martha” represents the believers who believe in Christ who is the Son of God but who “go their way.”

Joh 11:28-29 KJV
(28) And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

But Mary represents those who believe and “arise quickly” and come unto Him . They believe in the truth of the gospel and come alive in their mortal bodies (in the first resurrection) and continue to live unto His coming.

(29) As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

We shall not all “sleep” in mortal death (never dying)….as we shall believe in the truth of the gospel and will continue to mortally live UNTIL the last day where we shall be changed from mortal to immortal.

Those who had mortally perished (fallen asleep) shall be raised imperishable. Those who haven't gone to "sleep" in mortal death will then put on immortality.

1Co 15:51-53 KJV
(51) Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
(52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

(53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

But what body do they come?

This foolish question is being asked by people who now understand the truth of the gospel. The “living” will never lose their body…it just gets changed into immortal at the “last trump”. The “dead” though had mortally perished. They suffered loss…the loss of their mortal body.

Those believers in Christ believed but did not inherit an age-lasting life in their mortal bodies as they did not hear the gospel of truth. They mortally fell “asleep” until the last day of this age when God will then give them a body that pleases Him. They had suffered loss of the mortal body for the duration of this age (age-lasting death….aka “eternal death”) but will then be raised at the last day of this age and given another body.

1Co 15:35-38 KJV
(35) But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
(36) Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:

(37) And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:

(38) But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

Are Catholics really fleeing to the fields to escape modernity’s mess?

If, like me, you spend a little too much time on Catholic Twitter – or should I say X – then you might in the past few weeks have scrolled past various photos with a theme that caused a bit of a double take. Beards, braids, flannel shirts and long floaty skirts was the aesthetic that suddenly seemed to dominate my timeline.

While you may be forgiven for thinking the photos came from some New Age festival, they actually came from a conference in upstate New York – predominantly attended by Catholics.

The third annual Catholic Land Movement conference took place in upstate New York at the end of June, with around 300 people in attendance. The conference featured workshops on beekeeping, livestock care, how to work a well, among other homesteading topics.

The conference really stuck to its Catholic credentials: it convened on the site of the North American Martyrs Shrine in Auriesville, attendees prayed the rosary, and on the final day of the conference many of the boys in attendance served a Traditional Latin Mass celebrated by His Excellency Edward Scharfenberger of the Albany Diocese in New York.

Such a blend of homesteading and Catholicism is not unique to upstate New York; the Midwest-Appalachia region will hold its second Catholic Land Movement conference this September, and those interested in the Catholic Land Movement ethos are spread far and wide.

Russia threatens direct strikes on British military targets

An attack on NATO by Russia would invoke an Article 5 intervention by all its members. So no, not going to happen.

It is Ukraine that is sending troops into Russia, not Britain. It is the childish assumption that Russia can trample with impunity on the rights of other nations and expect no retaliation that is being challenged here.

By a hive mind I guess you mean Democrats have a great sense of community and a strong work ethic?
I guess you're right.

The fascinating history of the feast of Mary’s assumption

On Aug. 15, Catholics around the world mark the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, commemorating the end of her earthly life and assumption into heaven.

But while the feast day is a relatively new one, the history of the holiday — and the mystery behind it — has its roots in the earliest centuries of Christian belief.

The Catholic Church teaches that when Mary’s earthly life ended, God assumed her, body and soul, into heaven.

The dogma of the Assumption of Mary — also called the “Dormition of Mary” in the Eastern Churches — has its roots in the early centuries of the Church.

While a site outside of Jerusalem was recognized as the tomb of Mary, the earliest Christians maintained that “no one was there,” theologian and EWTN News Vice President and Editorial Director Matthew Bunson explained.

According to St. John of Damascus, the Roman emperor Marcian requested the body of Mary, mother of God, at the Council of Chalcedon in 451.

New Testament Relents, Glorifying Partitions

An examination of the broader picture of dis-unity. Ever contemplate this bit of lack, as though we have somehow undermined ourselves from being led due to our constant refusal to place All (Acts 20:27) we see AND possess as correctly subsisting by Christ? We (me included) tend to have a cluster of things at best, prioritized categorizations at worst concerning protocols of life, doctrine, gifts and Church. The differentiating of gifts here is strictly of God's own choosing, though many still wish to sweep it from view. This has to do with what I perceive as treating the Apostle's sole desired determination as just a little too frivolous, ,

Apostle Paul: "I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." (1 Corinthians 2:2)

Wait a minute, wasn’t he the one who excelled at “surpassingly great revelations” of intricacy on decency, morals, Christian life in and outside the Church as well as prophetic utterances in his epistles? But, he wasted no time in giving God glory saying, “I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me."

Please note, he did not bypass v-2, so how is Paul still following his own determination of knowledge being so diverse? It appears as all under the supplying root of Christ. Like baptisms, though more than one baptism, it is still “one” (Ephesians 4:5) under Christ, thereby knowing Christ.

Is there possibly not just a bit more unity here than first perceived? For in light of 1 Cor 2:2 umbrella coverage, God has pressed everything together, aka, full Gospel. Where partitioning occures is when the spirit of 2 Tim 4:3 shows up

Assurance

Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes.

Jud 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Rom 8:27 And he that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Rom 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Eph 1:4 According as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he has made us accepted in the beloved. Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. Eph 1:13 In whom you also trusted, after that you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that you believed, you were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Called to the New Birth

1Jn 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God.

Mat 16:15 He says unto them, But whom say you that I am? Mat 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Mat 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed are you, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto you, but my Father which is in heaven. Mat 16:18 And I say also unto you, That you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Mat 16:19 And I will give unto you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever you shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever you shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Mat 16:20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

1Pe 2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 1Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Act 2:22 you men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by (1) miracles and (2) wonders and (3) signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as you yourselves also know: Act 2:23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Act 2:24 Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides for ever.

Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Joh 3:4 Nicodemus says unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

The New Man

Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Eph 4:24 And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Col 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

Joh 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: Joh 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that you do, except God be with him. Joh 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Joh 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto you, You must be born again. Joh 3:8 The wind blows where it lists, and you hear the sound thereof, but can not not tell whence it comes, and whither it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Col 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

Sealing of Christian Saints

Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. Eph 1:13 In whom you also trusted, after that you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that you believed, you were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

2Co 1:21 Now he which stablishs us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, is God; 2Co 1:22 Who has also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows them that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2Ti 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 2Ti 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Apostate (Revelation Chapters 2&3)

Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

2Pe 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 2Pe 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

2Pe 2:20 For if after they (moral denominationalist) have escaped (broken free) the pollutions (foulness) of the world through the knowledge (recognition) of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again (1st) entangled (twisted together) therein, and (2nd) overcome (defeated), the latter end is worse with them (moral denominationalist) than the beginning. 2Pe 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known (recognized) the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from (refuse acceptance) the holy commandment delivered unto them. 2Pe 2:22 But it is happened unto them (moral denominationalist) according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Heb 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.

Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those (moral denominationalist) who were once enlightened (experienced), and have tasted (experimented with) of the heavenly gift (salvation), and were made partakers (have emotional part in) of the Holy Ghost, Heb 6:5 And have tasted (experimented with) the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, Heb 6:6 If they (moral denominationalist) shall fall away (diminish), to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

(Quoting English translations of texts of Scripture, is not an explanation
of what you think these texts mean.

All sorts of groups, with quite different theologies, quote these same
texts of scripture, but with very different understandings of what they mean.

Your approach is called "proof-texting", and is not biblical scholarship.)
