  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It probably seemed like a pretty good joke...

... until it backfired.
Senator JD Vance has made yet another joke that backfired.

Vance was speaking in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday morning when a reporter asked how he is preparing to debate Governor Tim Walz on October 1.

“Well, I found a good friend from back home who embellishes and lies a lot, I’m having him stand in for Tim Walz,” Vance responded.

But the insult quickly backfired as several social media users joked Vance was referencing Donald Trump, who has become notorious for lying over everything from election results and crowd sizes to the weather. The Washington Post estimated that during his presidency he made more than 30,000 false or misleading statements.

“Nice of Trump to help Vance with debate prep,” author and Jeopardy! Champion Hemant Mehta wrote.

The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump Republican organization, posted a photo of the former president with the caption, “The friend.”

Since we Christians asked God to forgive us for our sins in The Lord's Prayer then pray that Jesus Christ sends forth The Holy Spirit to help us forgi

Yes, God can't bless us if we don't forgive, the incentive i have for forgiveness is this, "i am going to abandon God favour because this person did this to me?" "on top of what the person did i will be in a bad stance with God because of them?" No way, so that gives me lots of incentive to forgive. I believe unbelievers have it really hard to forgive, without God help people don't seem to be able to do it most of the time.

David French, Kamala Harris and the bizarre story of the failed messiah Shabbetai Tzvi

Your vote does count. My state was a “doesn’t matter” state, but I’ve watched it go from red to purple and now more blue. Your vote is a reminder that something other than the majority exists and helps track when the needle moves. Every vote matters.
Voting as a means of influencing politicians actually doesn't matter. What matters is the donor class and who funds the politician's campaign.

The plebs don't have real influence in any political system.

For the first time ever, fewer US women than men claim to be religious or believe in a higher power in an age cohort (Gen Z)

Alot of what passes for Christianity in the US is considered patriarchal, authoritarian, and in some cases even openly misogynistic, and doesn't speak to the material circumstances of alot of young people. So I am not surprised.

Joy! Kamala and the Democrats

I find it a stretch to compare Trump to Jesus.
Quite a stretch and then some. And yet by simply saying Trump is a criminal, as though that is all that needs to be said, puts him in the same category as martyrs and dissidents who were also legally criminals. Far better to say why someone was convicted than to just say someone is a criminal and leave it at that.

The anger of the Lord burned against ISRAEL, and he incited DAVID against THEM

Did God use David to punish Israel?

In the ultimate sense, God uses everyone. God used Satan to tempt David. God used David to punish Israel.

2 Samuel 24:

1 Again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, “Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.”
In this sense, God used David against Israel because David was the head of Israel.

13 So Gad went to David and said to him,
“Shall there come on you three years of famine in your land?
Or three months of fleeing from your enemies while they pursue you?
Or three days of plague in your land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should answer the one who sent me.”
At this point, David had to choose one evil out of 3. God used David to choose the form of punishment.

14 David said to Gad, “I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but do not let me fall into human hands.”
David was saying here: Don't let me be the direct object of the punishment. Let all of us be the target of the punishment. So yes, God used David to choose the target and the form of punishment.

Did the OT teach you to love your enemies?

Psalm 139:

Did the above teach hating your enemies?

No, it only showed the sentiment of the psalmist. I would not overgeneralize his feelings into a doctrine.

On the other hand, Leviticus 19:

In the NT, Jesus said in Mat 5:

Apparently, some teachers did overgeneralize and said to hate your enemy.

Did the OT teach people to love your enemies?

The OT had commandments to show acts of love toward your enemy.

Exodus 23:

Prov 24:

God wanted you to be nice when your enemy stumbles.

Prov 25:

Be nice to your enemy. Leave vengeance to the Lord.

Did the OT teach you to love your enemies?

No, not explicitly loving your enemies in general. It did teach people to be nice to their enemies in some instances. While the Old Testament didn't explicitly command loving one's enemies like Jesus does, it did contain teachings that hint at kindness and consideration towards adversaries. The concept was not as fully developed or central as in the New Testament, but elements of it were present. In the NT, Jesus taught us unequivocally to love our enemies.
The OT did teach to love your enemies, but many people didn't discern that because of assumptions that they made.

Leviticus 19:18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.

Jesus said they heard that they should love their neighbor and hate their enemy, but OT scripture does not actually say that. They heard wrong. The verse above is including your enemies among your neighbors that you should love because it specifically talks about not taking vengeance or bearing a grudge against your enemies. So, loving your enemies is implied there. But, people missed that and ended up thinking it said to love your neighbor and hate your enemies. It says no such thing, of course. What it really says is to love your neighbors as yourself, including your enemies.

Jesus had to tell them what the OT was actually teaching. This includes what it really meant when it said not to murder. Jesus clarified that it not only means to not literally murder people, but also not to hate them (while wishing they were dead).

1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Jesus clarified that committing adultery was more than just literally committing adultery physically, but included lusting after another person and wishing you could literally commit adultery with them.

Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

The command to not commit adultery always included not lusting after others, but it's not something that people realized until Jesus clarified the whole meaning of that command just like He did with the command to not murder and the command to love your neighbor as yourself.

Justice and vengeance

Justice and vengeance are distinct concepts. While some argue for punitive justice, which may appear akin to vengeance, others support rehabilitation as the aim of justice, differing significantly from vengeance. Holy scriptures suggest that justice is a divine mandate, emphasizing fairness and restoration, whereas vengeance is an emotional response, often leading to further harm. Justice is about balance and equity, guided by principles and laws, while vengeance is driven by personal retribution. What do you think that the holy scriptures have to say about the systems of justice used in your land?
The semantic divergence of the two terms is a recent phenomenon. See for example Aquinas on vengeance (vindicare/vindicatione).

And then the end will come

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, ' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:3-14 NIV )

But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all. Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? I die every day--I mean that, brothers--just as surely as I glory over you in Christ Jesus our Lord. If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character." Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God--I say this to your shame. (1 Corinthians 15:12-34 NIV )

So, when will the end come?
-
Jesus is addressing the end of the age and that will come to and end when Jesus returns (second coming), locks away satan and starts His 1000 year rule on earth. The Messianic age.

Not sure what 1 Corinthians 15 has to do with Matthew 24. As 1 Corinthians 15 is addressing believers who say there is no resurrection of the dead.

My path to God

Hello, @AlexB23 Thank you for asking. Im learning more and more every day. Its been quite the journey. Im trying to figure out this concept of what genuine faith is? For some reason, I have been hist recently with a lot of materials talking about it through podcasts and sermons. Ive been thinking about that a lot. Ive been studying the gospels and going to different churches. Its been extremely enlightening and powerful.
You are welcome. It is good that things are getting better for you. Genuine faith would be, if someone were to martyr you, if you believed in Jesus, that you would still profess Jesus as Lord and Savior, no matter what. That may be dark, but that is how strong one's faith must be. However, God will understand.

For pure entertainment

Love him or hate him, Don Lemon is doing his own kind of journalism these days — his most recent bit asking women who they support in the 2024 presidential election.
I gotta admit that I'm a little surprised that Don Lemon is sharing responses from women who aren't going to vote for Kamala Harris.

The 5th Seal

The Fifth Seal (takes place in heaven)

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw]the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Testimony

Rev 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

Rev 9:20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Rev 9:21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

For the childless, the widow, the estranged, and by extension to all current and future inhabitants of Zion in the Heavenly Realm...

For the childless, the widow, and the woman estranged... and by extension to all of God's children - here is a message especially just for you from the Lord Jesus.

He hears you.

Isaiah 54 NIV

The Future Glory of Zion

“Sing, barren woman,
you who never bore a child;
burst into song, shout for joy,
you who were never in labor;
because more are the children of the desolate woman
than of her who has a husband,”
says the Lord.
"Enlarge the place of your tent,
stretch your tent curtains wide,
do not hold back;
lengthen your cords,
strengthen your stakes.
For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
your descendants will dispossess nations
and settle in their desolate cities.

"Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.
Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth
and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
For your Maker is your husband—
the Lord Almighty is his name—
the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
he is called the God of all the earth.
The Lord will call you back
as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit—
a wife who married young,
only to be rejected,” says your God.
"For a brief moment I abandoned you,
but with deep compassion I will bring you back.
In a surge of anger
I hid my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting kindness
I will have compassion on you,”
says the Lord your Redeemer.

"To me this is like the days of Noah,
when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.
So now I have sworn not to be angry with you,
never to rebuke you again.
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

"Afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,
I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise,
your foundations with lapis lazuli.
I will make your battlements of rubies,
your gates of sparkling jewels,
and all your walls of precious stones.
All your children will be taught by the Lord,
and great will be their peace.
In righteousness you will be established:
Tyranny will be far from you;
you will have nothing to fear.
Terror will be far removed;
it will not come near you.
If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
whoever attacks you will surrender to you.

"See, it is I who created the blacksmith
who fans the coals into flame
and forges a weapon fit for its work.
And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc;
no weapon forged against you will prevail,
and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and this is their vindication from me,”
declares the Lord."

How old was Miriam when she died?

Moses led the Israelites 40 years in the wilderness (De 29:5).

Numbers 20:

1 And the people of Israel, the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh. And Miriam died there and was buried there.
Miriam died in the 1st month of the 40th year in the wilderness.

4 months later, Nu 33:

38 And Aaron the priest went up Mount Hor at the command of the LORD and died there, in the fortieth year after the people of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, on the first day of the fifth month. 39 And Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.
A few more months later, Deuteronomy 34:

7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died.
Roughly speaking, Moses died a year after Miriam.

How old was Miriam when her brother (Moses) was born?

Ex 2:

1 Now a man from the house of Levi went and took as his wife a Levite woman. 2The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months. 3 When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank.
Moses was 3 months old when Miriam spoke to Pharaoh's daughter.

4 And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. 5 Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her young women walked beside the river.
Strong's Hebrew: 5291. נַעֲרָה (naarah) — 63 Occurrences

Brown-Driver-Briggs:

  1. girl, damsel;
  2. female attendants, maids
She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her servant woman, and she took it. 6 When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.” 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?” 8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the girl went and called the child’s mother.
Strong's Hebrew: 5959. עַלְמָה (almah) — 7 Occurrences

Brown-Driver-Briggs:

young woman (ripe sexually; maid or newly married).
Let's say that Miriam was 12 years old at this time. Then she died at 12+120-1 = 131.

Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold This Body Down! - Russ Taff (live)

Phillipians 4:4-8 KJV

"Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be careful for nothing; but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

How Tim Walz Took Aim at Churches, Other Faith-Based Groups

"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven."
The only person they should fear is GOD HIMSELF.

They should ask themselves: Would God be proud?

Harris Goes Solid Centrist with VP Pick Walz

They tried to no end to oust him during his presidency.
It's a shame the Republicans in the Senate refused to convict him for his crimes.
Then they kept at him trying to keep him from campaigning and being reelected.
Nobody stopped him from campaigning, but he got himself unelected.

How did blood atone for sin?

This is the atonement question.

u/AccomplishedCraft982

Sin causes death (Ro 6:23). Without the shedding of blood, there was no forgiveness of sins (He 9:22). You could shed your blood and die for your sins. However, the merciful God offered an alternative: You could shed an animal's blood to cover your sins so that you could continue to live. Blood sacrifices were central to the Israelite sacrificial system.

Le 17:

10 “If any one of the house of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn among them eats any blood, I will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people.
There is something sacred about blood.

11 For the life [H5315] of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls [H5315], for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life [H5315].
God reserved blood to be used exclusively to atone for people's sins. Don't eat it.

How did blood atone for sin?

Blood contains the H5315-life of the flesh.
Shedding animal blood atones for you H5315-souls.

This is the concept of substitutionary atonement. In this concept, the life of the animal (represented by its blood) is given in place of the sinner's life.

How often did the Israelites have to offer animal sacrifices?

Daily and regularly.

Animal sacrifice was only a shadow type of substitutionary atonement. The true type is found in the sacrifice of Jesus, the Son of God.

1 John 1:

7 The blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Jesus' death on the cross fulfilled the animal sacrifices perfectly, once and for all. We no longer need to shed animal blood to atone for our sins. We can live forever. We have eternal life in Jesus' blood.
