  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

President Trump Responds to Judge’s Ruling on SNAP Benefits

The USDA wrote in its September 30th shutdown plan: “Multi-year contingency funds are…available to fund participant benefits in the event that a lapse occurs.” Two weeks later it was deleted, and the fund was suddenly “not legally available.” Why would the Trump administration now say it's "not legally available" when it was legally available just weeks earlier, according to the administration, and also during the previous shutdown under Trump during his first term? You don't find this administration's actions to be vindictive and cruel?

There is a rumor circulating that the funds aren't actually there because they have been spent for something else. I haven't seen that from a source I trust tho.

Trump third term

The Amazon layoffs are targeting corporate employees only, and it's because theyre being replaced by generative AI, not because of lack of sales, or the economy.

You can't blame Trump for technological advances.
Nope. But when he doesn't come up with solutions, then yes you can blame him.

President Trump Responds to Judge’s Ruling on SNAP Benefits

look Trump has the right to appeal if the higher courts find he cannot do it then so be it. It is not good to depend 100% on the government anyway A it says as much in the name what does the S stand for? and B just like this if you depend on them for your needs they can take it away same applies to section 8 and social security for that matter. The ONLY people the government is 100% liable for their needs are people in government custody ( and yes some people turn to that option and I understand that.

Bessant said they weren't going to appeal.

The Thing Most Sabbath Keepers Do not Talk About.

Here it is again from Heb 4. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't
I have gone through Heb. 3 and 4 verse by verse including the Greek translation nuances and am yet to see someone refute it. If you think you can then please go for it.

Your response below does not address the points given from the text. But as for answering it. The Sabbath Rest is defined as that which God partook of on the Seventh Day in verses 4 and 5 of the same letter. The commentary below in bold is not even implied in the text. Why add what is not?
Why stop at verses 4 and 5? Verse 6 adds quite a bit of clarity to what the previous two verses are saying.
Then we Have Jesus prophesying that His followers would be keeping the Sabbath up to and beyond the destruction of the Temple in AD 70. This is in Matt24:20
Really? Matthew was written between 55 to 65 ad before the temple was destroyed. But let’s look at who Matthew was warning in Matt.24:20.

then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get things out of his house. And whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. But woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days! Moreover, pray that when you flee, it will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭16‬-‭20‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

He is warning the Jews in Judea which are Jews so, of course, the warning about the tribulation happening on the Sabbath would be of concern to them. Please take verses in context.

Prince Andrew gives up royal titles after string of scandals

That's not 100% clear year yet whether it's a true "loss" in a sense we'd think of it.

Getting relocated from one mansion to another out in the country side, and receiving a healthy annual stipend from the King isn't exactly a punishment.

Punishment for him would be "you get the boot from the Royal Lodge, and you'll have to go work at the Tesco and rent your own flat at your own expense"
Personally I think that punishment would be prison.

SNAP benefits ( gentally)

with the whole mess with SNAP benefits should there be anything food wise that cannot be purchased? How strict should it be?

I feel that no soft drinks nor pure junk food cookies, snack cakes ECT should be able to be purchased I do not believe, as I have seen at least one person say that everything boxed and certainly not everything canned should be off limits which if we really wanted to get super strict about junk food they would be.
Im affraid that would be impossible to enforce when checking out at the store.

Trump live updates: President expands ‘narco’ boat strikes to Pacific Ocean as 8th boat is struck

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The US Navy struck a superyacht carrying Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife, Ginni, as it cruised off the coast of Venezuela, the Pentagon confirmed on Sunday.

As Navy divers searched for the Thomases, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the sinking of the 160-foot-long luxury vessel “an honest mistake.”

“When you’re going after narcoterrorists, every now and then you’re going to hit a Supreme Court justice,” he said.

nope in fact I feel that that the states should not have sued ( for the other reason).

President Trump Responds to Judge’s Ruling on SNAP Benefits

everything is I understand that not everyone buys only junk food with SNAP I just noticed how you pointed out ( I understand as a joke that people do not lie on the internet and was saying that not only do I feel that they should not have a full haul of junk food but none at all ( at least nothing that is pure junk food not anything and everything known to be unhealthy.
I don't necessarily disagree with you, but again, my point was that:

1) We have no way to determine whether any (let alone all) of the food that she was showing off was actually purchased with SNAP benefits.

and

2) We have no way of knowing that the amount of money she claimed to have on her card was truthful.

Posts like that are purely ragebait.

The auto-pen scandal is going to be massive

Zhao, 48, a Chinese-born Canadian who is one of the world’s richest people, served four months in prison after his 2023 conviction and was released from prison in September 2024.

Why did he need a pardon?

How a Billionaire Felon Boosted Trump’s Crypto Company en Route to a Pardon

Binance facilitated $2 billion purchase of World Liberty’s stablecoin and built its technology; clemency for Changpeng Zhao surprised some in administration

ABU DHABI—Changpeng Zhao, crypto’s richest man, flew home from a California jail a year ago to recuperate in a secluded neighborhood of $30 million villas on a white-sand island here. He worked on his kite-surfing, caught up with friends in beachside clubs and kept his 100-foot yacht, Da Moon, moored nearby.

Despite his freedom, all wasn’t well. Binance, Zhao’s crypto exchange—owned by a felon and shackled by U.S. authorities—was struggling. Its new overseers were turning the screws to eliminate the practices that had made it a giant money-laundering mill. Binance’s top legal staff were certain the company was doomed.

Around the time of the election, Zhao’s representatives began discussions with allies of Trump, saying they wanted to find a solution to Binance’s legal troubles in the U.S. and offering a deal with a Trump family business, according to people familiar with the discussions.

The Thing Most Sabbath Keepers Do not Talk About.

The “Letter of Barnabas” and the writings of Ignatius of Antioch, along with the writings of Origen and Clement, are not bogus, and they contain a lot of important information, but they are not Scripture. If they were, you would not believe in the Trinity. However, they are worth reading. There is also a bit of Gnosticism mixed in.
I was just trying to show that the early church worshipped on the Lord’s day and not on the sabbath. Also the claim that Constantine changed the day is not true.

The early church fathers fought Gnosticism not joined it. Quite a few of their writings are to refute Gnosticism. There is no gnostic teachings in their writings.

It doesn't bother you that the Trump administration had to be sued and literally fought in court to block funds from being used to provide food to low-income Americans?

Does Regeneration Precede Faith?

So you’re saying that verse 32 in John 12 is in reference to verse 20 but not verse 25 and 26?

“He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭25‬-‭26‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

I don’t see why you’re making that connection. It seems to me that verses 35-36 correlate more to verses 25-26 than verse 20.

“So Jesus said to them, “For a little while longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light.” These things Jesus spoke, and He went away and hid Himself from them.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭35‬-‭36‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Verse 32 sits between verses 25 and 36 which are directly related to coming to Christ.
The connection to verse 20 doesn't exclude verses 25-26 or 35-36. It explains what triggered the entire discourse. The arrival of the Greeks in verse 20 is the narrative catalyst:

"Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip... and asked him, 'Sir, we wish to see Jesus.'" (John 12:20-21)
John deliberately isolates this event: "Now there were some Greeks..." (δὲ marks a narrative transition). He draws attention to them as a separate narrative unit before Jesus speaks again. The significance of it is that this is the first explicit mention of Gentiles seeking Jesus in John's Gospel. Up to this point, Jesus' ministry has been almost entirely within Israel. There had been occasional foreshadowings of Gentile inclusion (e.g., John 4:42), but this is the first time Gentiles are physically present and requesting audience with Jesus.

Jesus "answers them" (ἀποκρίνεται αὐτοῖς) in verse 23, saying, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified." The Greeks' arrival is what provokes this declaration. It is the event that marks the shift from "My hour has not yet come" (2:4; 7:30; 8:20) to "The hour has come" (12:23). So the arrival of these Gentiles signifies the transition from a Jewish-restricted mission to a universal one. Everything that follows Jesus' declaration in v. 23 unfolds as His theological exposition of this turning point.

Verses 25-26 develop the implications of His glorification (the necessity of death leading to life), while verse 32 gives its climactic significance: He being "lifted up" will effect a drawing of all kinds of people: Jew and Gentile alike, not Jew only. That's why John mentions the Greeks at all. They are the narrative signal that the redemptive focus is expanding beyond Israel.

The logic of the discourse is:

vv. 20-23 - The Greeks arrive --> "the hour has come."
vv. 24-26 - The principle of life through death (the grain of wheat).
vv. 27-33 - The meaning of Christ's death: the cross as the means of universal (not Jewish-only) gospel appeal.
vv. 35-36 - The closing exhortation: believe in the Light while it is among you.

The meaning of "draws" (ἑλκύω) and the scope of those drawn are not determined by the exhortation. In this context, the verb concerns the inclusion of all kinds of people; that is, kinds without distinction, not individuals without exception. Jesus is announcing the ingathering of both Jews and Gentiles into one redeemed people, not the universal salvation (or attempt at it) of every individual. Moreover, the semantic core of ἑλκύω is forceful or powerful, not merely inviting. The core idea it expresses is the decisive movement from one state or sphere to another. Thus, when Jesus declares, "I will draw all people to myself," He is not describing a mere attempt to persuade; He is proclaiming the certain efficacy of His redemptive work: the power of the cross to extend through the gospel to all nations and to bring people of every kind to genuine faith in Him. If that "drawing" is taken to refer to individuals without exception, the text would be teaching universalism.

President Trump Responds to Judge’s Ruling on SNAP Benefits

but that is not the type of "emergency" that was meant to address only things that no one could do anything about not things like the government being shut down because BOTH sides will not move In short, this was not meant to address "created" "emergencies" only ones that could not be helped or controlled.
A government shutdown is exactly the kind of emergency the contingency fund can be used for; it has been listed as a means to fund SNAP during a shutdown going back to at least 2018.

Lapse of Funding Plan September 30, 2025

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): OMB’s General Counsel provided a letter to USDA on May 23, 2025 stating that there is a bona fide need to obligate benefits for October – the first month of the fiscal year – during or prior to the month of September, thereby guaranteeing that benefit funds are available for program operations even in the event of a government shutdown at the beginning of a fiscal year. In addition, Congressional intent is evident that SNAP’s operations should continue since the program has been provided with multi-year contingency funds that can be used for State Administrative Expenses to ensure that the State can also continue operations during a Federal Government shutdown. These multi-year contingency funds are also available to fund participant benefits in the event that a lapse occurs in the middle of the fiscal year.

Preparations for Shutdown as a Result of a Lapse in Appropriations 2024

Core programs of the nutrition safety net, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Child Nutrition (CN) programs and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) will continue operations during a lapse in appropriations, subject to the availability of funding. Multi-year carry over funds and contingency reserves would be apportioned by OMB to support program operations during the period of the lapse to the extent such funding exists; funding from continuing resolutions, including the special mandatory payments provision generally included in continuing resolutions, would also be available to support program operations in a lapse the follows the expiration of a continuing resolution

Preparations for Shutdown as a Result of a Lapse in Appropriations 2021

FNS CONTINGENCY PLAN: For Shutdown Due to a Lapse in Appropriations 2018

USDA and OMB have jointly determined that there is Congressional intent that core programs of the nutrition safety net, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Child Nutrition (CN) programs and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) shall continue operations during a lapse in appropriations. Budget authority including: multi-year carry over funds; contingency reserves; and quarterly apportionment of funds by OMB under the continuing resolutions due standard obligational patterns and the special mandatory payments provision have been apportioned by OMB to support program operations during the period of the lapse.

The Thing Most Sabbath Keepers Do not Talk About.

Where does it say picking grain or fruit or vegetables is allowed on the sabbath? I've already shown where picking up manna was not allowed on the sabbath. It's very clear that food eaten on the sabbath, had to be obtained the day before according to the law.
Like I wrote, it is not considered harvesting if it is eaten in the same place. The Jewish traditions on the interpretation of these verses go way back to before the time of Jesus, and He obviously agreed with them or He was a sinner. If you think He was a sinner, you should put your faith somewhere else. (edit: I'm stopping here for the day.)

President Trump Responds to Judge’s Ruling on SNAP Benefits

I feel that they should not be able to buy true junk food on SNAP. This would be like candy, cookies, snack cakes things of that sort or soft drinks some people would included processed food in that like frozen dinners and if you wanted to get REALLY strict you could include even canned food. I am not a fan of it being that strict.
Not sure what this has to do with my post.

Why did he need a pardon?
The question right now is who signs the pardons. Last time I checked, the President does. So the next question is, why did the President sign a pardon for someone he knows nothing about, and claims to know nothing about the situation.

Who made him sign that pardon, or....or.....*dun dun dun* WHO SIGNED IT FOR HIM? SCANDALOUS! Must be those machines!

Trump third term

That's the thing. In my opinion, Biden wasn't chosen by God. He was just a guy, trying to do his best for the country, who did some good things and made some mistakes. Same with Obama, and Bush, and the other Bush, and Clinton, and Reagan, and so forth. Sure, I'm happy when my party wins elections and less happy when the other party wins, but I see it all as a human endeavor. It's the religious component of Trump's support that is so strange to me.
Why is it strange? Do you believe God still speaks to his church through men?

President Trump Responds to Judge’s Ruling on SNAP Benefits

I was talking about the CR which would in fact fund the government. The fact that it runs out means that MAYBE on that date it would be time to take a fresh look but it has been the DEMOCRATS in the SENATE who have so far held things up NOT REPUBLICANS in the HOUSE or democrats in the house for that matter.
That's certainly an overly simplistic view on the situation. As long as it leaves no responsibility left for the party that controls the House, Senate, and Executive; the job is done. Dust off those hands. Job well done.

The Thing Most Sabbath Keepers Do not Talk About.

Saying all the rest of Christianly is in disobedience and rebellion against God and they alone are the loyal remnant is not defending themselves.
You should look at the threads defending Mary or the authority of the Roman Church or the ones about being once saved always saved or about the existence of hell. The Bible is a big and complicated group of books. We distill them into doctrines. Our faith is in Jesus and His saving work and the truth of the Bible, but our doctrines give us a frame of beliefs. We all want to please God, and we study, pray, and hope we are doing it correctly. Challenges to these things are challenges to the most important aspects of our Christian struggle here on earth. Disagreements go all the way back to the beginning as seen in the Book of Acts. Humans are designed to defend those things that a precious to us. It can get messy.
