Hundreds of people detained at the Alligator Alcatraz immigration processing center west of Miami, Florida, appear to have vanished. They have disappeared from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) online database, and their lawyers and families have been unable to locate them, according to immigrant advocacy groups.

All of the plaintiffs who were being held at the center were transferred to another location after a new lawsuit was filed in August challenging Florida’s authority to detain people there, Sorto added. That lawsuit also noted that the detainees did not appear in ICE’s tracking system.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which filed the lawsuit, described Alligator Alcatraz as a “black hole,” noting that some people were “missing,” effectively “off the radar” of the immigration system, and “their lawyers and families often don’t know where they are or how to contact them.”

A Miami Herald report indicates that about 800 detainees no longer appeared in ICE’s online database as of late August, and another 450 did not have a location, but rather the message: “Call ICE for details.”

That is NOT what folks voted against. 10 million entered the country illegally under Biden's watch. One can argue that the president, his priorities, executive orders and leadership had nothing to do with those millions crossing. Or one can simply look the other way and say "what problem" or there was nothing to be done.

The reality is that folks saw illegal immigration under the Democrats and under Trump. They have judged and will continue to judge.

AS AN ASIDE
How to deal with undocumented immigrants already WITHIN the country is a different discussion entirely.

First we need to celebrate the fact that Trump has closed the border to illegal immigrants.

Next, we need to deal with issues surrounding those here illegally (whether they have committed violent crimes or not). Fighting Trump's METHODS is fine but is really a diversion. We should focus. We need to allow Dreamers to become citizens and those who have been here for more than 5 years to have a path to citizenship. The rest should be deported and Democrats should SUPPORT that happening.

THEN AND ONLY THEN can we discuss new immigration policies which will reasonably bring in the millions of young workers that we need and we will need going forward and bring in some of the true asylum seekers (especially those who have worked for the US overseas).
