  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The CBO is a bi-partisan and highly important congressional analysis group. If it was not - if it was partisan - it would have been disbanded decades ago. Critique the particular assumptions of the report - and show where the CBO are wrong. Rejecting the entire institution is typical of MAGA - but if MAGA were a more adult culture - they would practice more intellectually credible arguments - and not throw out over 50 years of experience in analysis.

But one thing to keep in mind is the BBB is not in isolation. Trump also launched tariffs which will hurt the American economy, but raise Federal funds by taxing citizens on imports. (It does NOT tax the other countries as Trump claims! )

Yale double checked the CBO's figures and also calculated the impact of tariffs.

Add the 2 together - and the massive raise of funds to the rich comes down a bit - but is still significant considering the RICHEST get even richer as a percentage of THEIR enormous salaries.

But the poorest get even poorer! Those tariff taxes hit the poor EVEN HARDER than the BBB!

But this is just the Congressional Budget Office and Yale University - what do they know - right?
By the time you're done with your bedtime reading - you'll feel right as rain.

Can we talk about ADHD... and such ?

Maybe the biggest problem with ADHD is the name. People hear it and think they know everything about the condition, whereas if people hear "autism", they don't tend to make so many assumptions about that condition.

It's probably true that conditions like ADHD and autism are not disorders as such (depending on severity I suppose), but are naturally occurring and actually beneficial to humanity, if some members of a group have these conditions. In our modern world and one-size-fits-nobody school system etc., these conditions can be more troublesome. It's also possible (maybe proven, I'm not sure) that things like pesticides and pollution may be increasing the incidence and severity of these conditions.

"Everyone's a little ADHD these days" - that's true! But here we're talking about certain symptoms that are exacerbated by the modern world. Stolen Focus by Johann Hari is a book that gives an overview of these issues and potential solutions.

With the term "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder", you can almost picture a teacher or scientist observing someone and thinking, "Hmm, this person isn't paying much attention to me (a person in authority), plus they're quite hyper and annoying". So we have a description from the viewpoint of such an authority, rather than from the person with ADHD. Also, many people with ADHD were either never particularly hyperactive, or they learned to confine most of their hyperactivity to their own heads rather than expressing it in a more obvious way. PLUS people with ADHD can usually pay attention to certain things they're interested in, although they may have more need for novelty and to learn in different ways than neurotypicals, even with things they're interested in.

"Actual" ADHD involves things like impulsivity, developmental delays, interpersonal difficulties and misunderstandings (including with authority figures), issues with motivation and completing tasks, disorganisation, need for routine but also a need for novelty.. To make things more confusing, it's common to have both ADHD and autistic traits in differing amounts. Also psychology is very far from being a perfect science, so our understanding of these conditions will probably change a lot in upcoming years.

I'm not a fan of mental health medications in general, although I've never tried ADHD meds. I have tried Prozac, which didn't agree with me.

Also getting too obsessed with "having ADHD" can be a bad idea from a self-esteem standpoint, since a lot of the symptoms aren't exactly always valued by modern society. However, having no concept of ADHD can also hurt self-esteem for obvious reasons, so there's a balance I guess.

I could go on. As for the religious angle, could Jesus or some of the saints or apostles have had ADHD? That was just a random thought lol, typical of ADHD maybe.

Another look at the moon landing.

Evidence please ............
What sort of evidence would you accept? Many times you have been presented with testimonies, photos, videos, and articles. You have ridiculed them all, saying that those saying they have been to the moon, including Christians, are lying, that the photos are fakes, or manipulated with fish-eye lenses, and so on. If the testimony of a Christian astronaut doesn't cut the mustard for you, what will?

Assembly of God, no longer Pentecostal ?

i visited a local Assembly of God here in Sequoyah County Okla. last weeks mid week service and again yesterday morning , i saw no evidence of the Holy Ghost, no gifts of the Spirit , no prayer to invite his presence , no place to kneel and pray, the worship service had recoded music that was uninviting . what has happened to the old time Pentecostal , singing and shouting and the moving of the spirit ?
Geepers, hard to imagine an AOG without an altar? Was there at least, an invitation to receive Christ? Wish I were closer to Biblebelt OK, we could tarry a while to see whether to submit concern to district oversight, as they take note over voting members with clear evidence.

But, in that assemblies' defense, though unusual, I'm not instantly opposed to a quiet spirit, as an assembly doesn't always have to have a fully committed service for the Baptism with the Holy Spirit.

Has Kirk's Death Prompted You?

The problem is in the west most have heard the gospel 10 times over and they their hearts have become hardened or softened to alternative ideas and the message is not penetrating. But if one of these Christians was asked to take a side and there would be consequences, lost job, financial, harm to body or even death. They would be asked to put their faith on the line and this is when it counts.
Sadly, the Gospel has been heard many times in the West. Most have heard the Good News, that if they believe in Jesus, they can have everlasting life, yet they see it as foolishness. The reason they don’t value the Good News is because they’ve never really heard the bad news: that we have sinned against a Holy and Righteous God, that we’ve earned the death penalty, and that one day we must give an account before Him.

When people understand this, the Gospel finally makes sense. Only when they see the depth of their sin do they grasp the greatness of God’s grace.

We need to be bold, as Jesus was, and lovingly show people their sin. Then, when they recognise their guilt and need for mercy, their hearts will be far more open to receive Christ as their Saviour.
But you are right becuase I think at the same time as bold Christians do stand up they shine Christ and its noticable and turns peoples heads to God no matter what. Because it is so powerful and radical. Its just that some will turn and others will become even more hateful.
The Gospel is the power. It has the power to change hearts of stone into hearts of flesh.
I have been thinking about this and how word and actions or rather disposition are different. Clement of Rome mentions the greatest Overseers were the ones who spoke little but were Christ like. Christ was like this. He did not speak often but lived His teachings. So when He did speak people believed and knew He was telling the truth.

I think in a world where words have become many meanings and rationalisations. Even the Gospel and Christ being rationalised in all sorts of ways that almost create a complete new religion. I think the best way is to be Christ like as much as possible. Say little at the moment and allow the example and disposition to shine through.
I believe that Christ spoke a lot. In fact, there is so much that He said and done that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. We only read a little of what he did in the bible, but still, there are a lot of red letters in there.
I go and share the Gospel with many people. When I do this, I show people how they have sinned and that one day they will be judged. The Gospel then makes sense to many. So, speak the whole Gospel with the bad news, and you will see that the Gospel still has power to change people and that it is still relevant today.
Yes exactly as to what I was alluding to above. But at the same time I think it has come to a situation where the Christian does not have to do anything wrong and is already condemned as a hater causing trouble or a hypocrite. Just the mention that Jesus saves is enough to trigger some. Or the mention that God created them man and women in marriage is seen as hate speech.
People who share the Gospel as Jesus did, with the bad news, have always been persecuted all throughout time.

might seem silly but I just wonder

Do you also feel the joy from God when you try your best to do right to live right follow what He says? A joy suddenly comes over me and I feel like almost a shoulder nod with his hand. I feel it from within, and it is not from me. And joy rush over me. And feel this acceptance. Do you also feel like that?

Another look at the moon landing.

I'm sorry but at the moment we can only fly in low earth orbit.
Yet in the past we have sent multiple space craft to orbit and even land on Mars.

We currently have over 500 satellites in geosynchronous orbit over 22000 miles above the equator which is well beyond low earth orbit

Born again morality as opposed to the worlds morality.

Yes, its where our hearts are at and not our words or exterior representations in this world. This heart or mind or consciousness or soul is something that is real and accountable. The pharisees had the outside looks and words. The poor women who gave her last coin who no one noticed except Christ had the heart.
yes Jesus said He looks at the heart. So if you give a lot, but with no want really, no joy, it count as nothing. If your intent is wrong. Jesus said the woman had given more than anyone else. And she gave little, and the last she had. So it is true. It is not about a tenth. Or how much. As he describes it it is clear everything is about our hearts intent. We also have to LET God do the work in us. And say no to sin

There’s a Giant Flaw in Human History

Better question:

What do you think "machine tools" refers to?
In the case of the vases machine lathing of some sort. At that level of tech which is said toi be beyoond unaided hands, copper chisels and pounders. Or the rudimentary methods of the Bore or Bow drill method.

As the articles note there are classes of precision that have certain tolerances which go beyond handmade and into machines being the defining factor that achieves the high level precision. The higher the precision the more complex the machine. Going up to precision tooling such as with NASA.

Hell doesn't exist and there is no eternal suffering, instead bad peolle just cease to exist

Lotta really dubious stuff in the Revelation, IMO. Kinda hard to reconcile our Lord sd we see him in the Gospels and epistles with the radically different person we see in the Apocolypse. The Savior of the World vs. the Exterminator of Humanity, Quite a jarring contrast.

Yo still have the same problem that all damnationists have with ECT; the assumption that everyone lives forever by default, Nowhere does Scripture say any such thing, Your lot find yourselves in the curious position of believing that God gives the damed the "gift" of eternal life so as to be able to torture them forever. We're told quite explicitly that the wages of sin is death, but central assumption of damnationism is that the damned Iive eternally in torment. One or both of those assertions must be untrue.
I think many would agree that the terms light and darkness, even life and death are not strictly literal terms in scripture. For example, Paul specified he died daily. Obviously figurative, til it wasn't figurative. 2 meanings. Paul also defines believers as "dead" in Col. 3:3. Yet even already seated in the heavenlies in Christ, hidden from us presently. These kinds of things are more difficult concepts to grasp. Definitely not all physical. Eventually we tend to get off that physical side of understanding things almost entirely because it doesn't work for understanding scripture.

God kills. God makes alive. Both are true statements. And both can mean physical and spiritual.

It's what makes scripture so interesting.

Born again morality as opposed to the worlds morality.

If we live like a child of the devil then we’ll most likely be spending our existence with him, regardless of whether we call ourselves a Christian or not. If we say we don’t want to sin but sin anyway, we only show where our true loyalty lies by our actions.

Yehovah God will not send you to Hell!

I see some insinuations but no specifics.
IF it all applies to everyone, then no specifics are needed.

There is a division required.

The "good stuff" belongs to people. The "bad stuff" to the tempter or his own who also happen to be with everyone.

That's as specific as it needs to be. Anyone can take it from there, if they are so inclined.

OR they can be led into the classic brick wall by their built in opponent

The Lost House of Israel

paul also says there is no jew nor greek, male or female.
Very good!
he also believed the return would be in his lifetime, so the partial hardening he thought would not lead to death.. but 2000 years later in order for "all israel" to be saved, you have to believe in continuous re-incarnation until they all come to salvation.
It's called "resurrection." And yes, for all people, past, present and future.

Hebrews 11:40
God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

We will all be joined to the Body of Christ.

this is something... many jews believe to this day, and was common in the days of Jesus.
It was the pharisee sect that believed in resurrection iirc. Sadducee sect, not.

But yes, definitely part of the Christian Hope.
