  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Morality without Absolute Morality

Right. I own land that I purchased from someone who had bought it from someone else, who in turn had bought it from someone else, and so on, reportedly tracing back to William Penn, who acquired it from the King of England. OK, but who gave the King of England the right to the land? If he didn't really own the land, is my deed void?

And it goes on like this for each landholder. Ultimately, it comes down to someone who claimed ownership of this land with dubious justification.
A few years a go I had to dig a soak away pit for the rainwater system on an extention to my house. I had to dig it 1.5m deep (about 5 feet). It's very sandy soil as we live near the beach so no big deal. But at the bottom of the hole I found an Aboriginal 'clapping stick' - a wooden cigar shaped object covered in dot painting. Now this wasn't something that a previous owner had lost in the garden. This thing must have been there a very long time. And made by someone from the Gadigal nation who were the original inhabitants of this area.

Now I paid good money for this place. Worked hard to earn enough to buy it. From the previous owners, who presumably also paid an honest amount in a legal transaction. And we can go back to a time before there was housing in the area when The Crown awarded the land to a guy named Roberts. So he became the legal owner. But...the Crown didn't own the land to be able to give it away. They just occupied it, drove off the Gadigal people and possesion was nine tenths of the law.

Is there any guilt that I feel about this? To a certain extent, yes. Because I'm the end of a chain of events that started with what I consider to be an illegal act. But not to the extent that I'll be contacting local elders to invite them around so that I can return their clapping stick and hand over the deeds of my house. I'm pretty certain that they'd say that it wasn't theirs in any case. That they were just looking after it. Maybe I should feel the same way.

Make Argentina Great Again: US ready to support Argentina with 'large and forceful' action, Treasury chief says

I actually had high hopes that Argentina could move to more of a free market system. Their VAT system though similar to tariffs,

VAT is common worldwide. About 80% of economies have one. Having a VAT doesn't preclude a free market. The countries with the highest economic freedom scores (Singapore, Ireland, Luxemborg, New Zealand, Switzerland) all have VATs or GSTs.

VATs are not "similar to tariffs".

VATs are a general tax on consumption, not on trade.

That means that they apply to all goods (domestic or foreign), and thus increase prices/reduce consumption generally. Tariffs only apply to foreign goods, increasing prices/reducing consumption of imported goods (or domestically produced goods that include foreign-sourced materials).

Quoting from the Cato Institute:

So why the misleading comparison? The VAT line gives cover to protectionism under the guise of “fairness.” If you can convince the public that other countries are taxing us and we’re not taxing them, then tariffs look like a justifiable policy correction. But the economics are clear: VAT is not a tariff, and tariffs are not a consumption tax.

The Schumer Shutdown

Democrats Dismiss Concerns About Key Program Going Unfunded During Imminent Schumer-Caused Shutdown

Senate Democrats, appearing to move full steam ahead with plunging the country into a government shutdown, are mum on the consequences for millions of women and babies who could go hungry during a prolonged funding lapse.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), which helps assist low-income parents and children with groceries, is expected to face substantial disruptions during a government shutdown. Despite the prospect of WIC running out of funding within days after a funding lapse, Senate Democrats have largely dismissed concerns that WIC recipients will not be able to access benefits during an indefinite shutdown.
I had to AI this as I believe only AI can cut through to the truth these days.

The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025," which was signed by the current administration in July 2025, has been reported to contain deep rollbacks and cuts to federal nutrition programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
According to reports, the law reduces funding and is projected to force states to turn away a significant number of eligible mothers and children from WIC starting in the next year.
It is also important to note that the administration's budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2026, which preceded the bill, had already proposed substantial cuts to WIC, including a significant reduction to the Cash Value Benefit (CVB) for fruits and vegetables.

Getting past heartbreak / not trying to save people

Looking back, I think I may have been targeted. I got sucked in in a few ways. 1. We were friends initially through work. 2. He presented himself as a Christian who had walked away from God for a while and was coming back.

These two things made me more vulnerable. My guard was down because I believed we were already true friends. Then he lost his job and approached me romantically. The timing was a flag. Second, aside from claiming to be Christian, there was no evidence of his faith. I was always the one to initiate Church and reading the Bible. Another flag, which I rationalized away because I have strayed from God before and know it is a journey coming back.

I over-empathized with him because we were already friends, so I already cared, and when he shared his childhood traumas and other family issues I got sucked in more.

This is where I find myself getting stuck. My internal discernment and the Holy Spirit tried to warn me many times, but the emotional empathetic side of myself couldn't not help...which turned into me getting used/enabling.

I have lost this struggle between empathy/discernment before. Any advice on how to balance these two as a Christian?
I'm always working on this.

Thank you for your time and response.
Hi thanks your for the opportunity to share. I guess the balance is that you have to just be careful with these red flags. Let them override your emotions and stay more practical and aligned with the word. As yourself too why the gift of compassion? Learn more about what it does and means to a believer. Here is a snippet from a webite I just found.

"Mercy

A person with the motivational gift of mercy is sensitive to the emotional and spiritual needs of others. A mercy-giver is drawn to people in need and seeks to demonstrate compassion, understanding, and love to them.

  • Biblical Example
The Apostle John had the gift of mercy. The Gospel of John and the epistles I, II, and III John share a unique perspective of Jesus’ ministry and include many insights into the love of God and His work in the heart of a believer. “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34–35).
  • Guidelines in Romans 12
The exhortation of Romans 12:15 particularly relates to the gift of mercy: “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep”(ESV).
  • Life Principle to Apply
It is important for a mercy-motivated person to apply the principle of moral freedom. An understanding of this principle will protect the mercy-giver from developing improper relationships or giving false impressions to those to whom they minister." Source: What are the seven motivational gifts? - Institute in Basic Life Principles
A gift of mercy (compassion) is tremendous, giving emphathy and care above an ordinary Christian, though all should show mercy. But you have to guard it so as to be careful and let God choose your relationships. Let's suppose someone has the gift of giving. (Also in Romans 12, generally considered giving money). They should not let every sob story guide their gifts, they have to hear from God and make it count because most have a monetary limit. You too have limits and boundaries in God and you are doing great exploring this now. I do believe the Holy Spirit will guide you in ways you can apply what you leearn to your entire life.

I once had a pastor ask me why I was looking to God to marry a foreign woman, that to him, I may have had a self image problem that I could not find an American. In a sense he was right about my self image, but I laugh now because foreign women can be equally good. In your case, could it be asked: Why are you looking for someone to rescue, a harder case, when you have the same rights and priveleges as a child of God to seek one of God's finest? That compassion works on other levels besides close relationships and is especially useful to those who minister. I can't answer if all this applies to you but I do pray you know that God is for you, not against you, in your finding a great husband and so much more. That you do not wander aimlessly in the desert with dead ends, but instead you can set Godly boundaries and focus on your promised land. God's best to you!

Hell doesn't exist and there is no eternal suffering, instead bad peolle just cease to exist

Laugh. Out. Loud! I can’t help but sense the excitement in your “There you go.” Don’t you just wish that the anathema pronounced by the Fifth Ecumenical Council was under divine inspiration? Then it would actually be authoritative …

Unlike this anathema which IS AUTHORITATIVE!
”I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.“
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬-‭9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Funny. Last time I checked, the Apostle Paul never mentioned anywhere, in any of his epistles, man being condemned to this wicked concept you call hell. Now listen to Paul’s declaration:

”But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again. Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all, for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.“
‭‭Acts‬ ‭20‬:‭24‬-‭27‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Hmmmmmmm, I wonder how Paul could say such a thing and yet never mentioned man being condemned to hell? Was Paul a liar?

Me thinks you have an important decision to make. Shall you stand on the authoritative Scriptures which Paul declares to have proclaimed in its entirety, yet never having mentioning hell. OR, retreat to the safety net of your man made councils and their man made doctrines. I hope you jump off the anathematized bandwagon of man made doctrine and put your feet firmly and solely on the ROCK, against which all false doctrines meet their demise as they are smashed against he ROCK of TRUTH, which is Jesus …The Messiah.

You see … their/your anathema is the very anathema that the authoritative anathema anathematizes!

Laugh. Out. Loud! That just sounds so authoritative. So spiritual. I can see why you are so impressed by it …
Brother, you seem upset. Look, I am not the one with the unorthodox belief. UR is foreign to the gospel, a false doctrine, and a false teaching.

As far as Paul, here is what he teaches about unbelief.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible mankind, of birds, four-footed animals, and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them up to vile impurity in the lusts of their hearts, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a depraved mind, to do those things that are not proper, people having been filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, and evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unfeeling, and unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭18‬-‭25‬, ‭28‬-‭32‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

These are the impious. These are the evil ones. These are the ones that Christ teaches in Matthew that are going to eternal punishment. There is not restoration for these.

Trump Calls For Ilhan Omar’s Removal From Congress

It appears the oath meant little to her because of her loyalties to Somalia. But thats okay because Muslims are allowed to lie to infidels.
Lying, even to non-Muslims, is one of the greatest of sins according to the teachings Islam.

"Avoid falsehood, for falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness to Hell; and if a man continues to speak falsehood and makes falsehood his object, he will be recorded in God's presence as a great liar. And adhere to the truth, for truth leads to good deeds, and good deeds lead to Paradise. If a man continues to speak the truth and makes truth his object, he will be recorded in God's presence as eminently truthful." (Sunan Abu Dawood vol. 3, no. 4971)

WW3 soon?

I don't place Gog/Magog war as anywhere close since Revelation mentions it at the end of the millennial reign (Revelation 20: 7-10). But I don't think the next world war will be until the tribulation period for sure. The world right now is like a pressure cooker, there is so many possibilities of war cropping up, it's getting insane. I mean, Morocco just broke out in violent protests today against the government and Nepal before that, Madagascar's government just fell due to protests too... it's getting nuts.
The beginning of sorrows. Wars and rumors of wars. Eze 38 is different from armageddon. Happens during the tribulation. But Israel is going to be the focus of the big war.

The Schumer Shutdown

Schumer’s Bid To Shut Down Government Exposes Democratic Fissures

Senate Democrats blocked a clean extension of government funding late Tuesday evening, but a handful of Democrats bucked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in an effort to avert a looming government shutdown.

Three members of the Democratic caucus — Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada and Angus King of Maine — voted with Republicans to fund the government. The bipartisan spending bill still failed to clear the upper chamber’s 60-vote threshold during a vote of 55 to 45.

The vote highlighted internal disagreement among Senate Democrats over whether to plunge the country into a government shutdown. The trio notably voted with Schumer to prevent a government funding lapse in March.

cannot support a costly government shutdown that would hurt Nevada families and hand even more power to this reckless administration,” Cortez Masto said in part in a statement following the vote.

Democrats’ $1.5 trillion counter-proposal that would undo cuts to foreign aid and public broadcasting as well as reverse GOP reforms to Medicaid also failed to get the requisite 60 votes to clear the upper chamber.

Senate Republicans hounded Democrats on Tuesday over their hypocrisy on rejecting a short-term spending bill despite rubber-stamping 13 similar measures under former President Joe Biden.

For The Faith of The Gospel

“Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.” (Philippians 1:27-30 NASB1995)

This was the apostle Paul writing to the Christians in Philippi. But this message is for all who profess faith in Jesus Christ. As those who are followers of Christ, as his disciples, who have received him as our Lord and Savior, crucified with Christ in death to sin, and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, we are to be those for whom sin is no longer our practice but righteousness and godly living and obedience to our Lord are what we now practice, by the grace of God, in the power of God.

For when Jesus gave his life up for us on that cross it was to put our sins to death with him so that, by God-persuaded faith in him, we would now die to sin and live to God and to his righteousness in walks of surrender to our Lord in obedience to his commands. Therefore, our conduct should now be in a manner worthy of (fitting to, suitable to, appropriate to) the gospel of Christ. And his gospel teaches us that by faith in him we are crucified in death to sin so that we might be raised with him to walk in newness of life in him.

So this means that we who believe in him should now be living holy lives, pleasing to God, in his service, walking in obedience to his commands and no longer as slaves to sin. This doesn’t make us absolutely perfect in every way, for we are still clay in the hands of the Potter (God) being perfected and being molded into the likeness of character of Jesus Christ, by God. And this work will not be finished until Jesus returns and he takes his faithful followers to be with him for eternity, when our salvation will be complete.

And if we are striving for the faith of the gospel, we are those who are teaching and sharing the gospel as Jesus taught it and as his New Testament apostles taught it, taught in the correct biblical context. For we have many charlatans today who are teaching an altered “gospel” message which does not teach death to sin and obedience to God and holy living as required of God as part of faith which saves. And they are leading many people to hell on the promise of heaven by teaching them lies which will not save.

For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

So, we need to know the truth, believe the truth, and live the truth of the biblical gospel of Christ. And then we need to be sharing with others the gospel taught by Jesus and by his New Testament apostles, but in the correct biblical context, and not out of context. And if we do that, we will be opposed, criticized, rejected, falsely accused, cast aside, and unwanted because we teach the truth most do not want to hear. But we must persevere, knowing that the truth is what the people need to hear.

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

Oh, to Be Like Thee, Blessed Redeemer

Lyrics by Thomas O. Chisholm, 1897
Music by W. J. Kirkpatrick, 1897

Oh, to be like Thee! blessèd Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Oh, to be like Thee! full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wandering sinner to find.

O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit,
Holy and harmless, patient and brave;
Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,
Willing to suffer others to save.

O to be like Thee! while I am pleading,
Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;
Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,
Fit me for life and Heaven above.

Oh, to be like Thee! Oh, to be like Thee,
Blessèd Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

Multiple victims in Michigan church shooting; church on fire

Who knew England was such a racist country.

Anyone who has studied English history?
Anyone cogent of recent English social and political dynamics?
Anywho who watches and reads a broad selection of news media.

Yeah. England has fallen to Muslim extremists...again. Historically, a crusade was the reaponse to push the Muslim invasion back. But I dont think the world could stomach it. Therefore, London is officially captured Muslim territory.

Strong 6.9 magnitude earthquake strikes Central Philippines

The number of casualties is sure to climb based on what I've been seeing on social media.

Cebu earthquake kills 26 – NDRRMC

Twenty-six people were killed when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu province in the middle of the night on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when most of the residents were already in deep slumber.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the powerful rumbling also injured 147 individuals.

“[The] situation [is] still being assessed. We’ve been receiving reports of casualties from different sources. However, we still need to validate those reports to provide a clearer picture,” Office of Civil Defense (OCD) deputy spokesperson Diego Mariano said.

Trump Calls For Ilhan Omar’s Removal From Congress

Ref #2.

Naturalized Citizens take an oath:
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."
It appears the oath meant little to her because of her loyalties to Somalia. But thats okay because Muslims are allowed to lie to infidels.

Political Pawns

Which is unaccountable to the will of the people and their elected representatives.

Bureaucrats manage things.

If instructed, they will implement the wills of their political masters.

However, they will generally do so in a way that is based in the real world and the specific situations they're faced with. Otherwise, you end up with policy implementation that is totally divorced from reality, or flaps around like laundry on a windy day. And that's not good for anyone.

See, for instance, the mess that is current US trade, aid and diplomatic policy. Or US domestic health policy. Similarly, the disaster that was Brexit, or the Liz Truss 'mini-budget'.

These are/were nominally the "will of the people and their elected representatives". Unfortunately they were also full of such cack-brained ideas that their implementation was necessarily cack-handed. Ultimately, these policies acted against the general public good.

Sheep, voting for the stew pot.

Whose groceries are more Expensive?

Whose groceries are Expensive?

That's easy - Canada Between their incredibly weak dollar and the higher cot of living they are more expensive than the US.

    • Canada’s grocery prices are generally 10–30% higherthan U.S. prices across staples.
    • Dairy, produce, and bottled water show the steepest differences.
    • Exchange rate effects and supply chain costs contribute to the gap.

Morality without Absolute Morality

Did I say that? C'mon, Sir Bradskii! I think you know what, or who, I mean when I analogize by a 'North Star.'
Yes. You're saying everything would be snowflakes and mittens and whiskers on kittens if we just had one moral direction that we could follow.

But the only moral direction we follow is our individual one. Even if it's a morality that you have determined from an external source - a mentor, a parent, a religion, then you, personally, have to decide if it's one worth following. You need to decide that. You have to choose it because you think it's right. And if you aren't making that decision then you are following it without question. And that's a mentality that ends up with planes being flown into buildings.

This is so blindingly obvious to me that I am completely nonplussed when other people don't understand it.
