  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Must Christians be kind to animals?

Does the bible urge Christians to be kind to animals?
Really depends on the person and how they define " dominion" .

Genesis 1:28: "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

Is the call from God for responsible stewardship or is it a call to do what we want with His creation.

Blessings

MS-13 Gang Member Kilmar Abrego Garcia to be Deported to African Country of Eswatini

We don’t do trials anymore. Wrong skin color or political affiliation? Guilty. Period.
I agree. If you are white and republican, the kangaroo court of public opinion is coming after you and your family.

The Language of God

not until the stock of the tree is cut down does the axe head rise up out and float on the water ....

And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

Trump's plan is working.

The city and the state have been taking crime seriously for quite a while. That you think this represents some big shift in policy shows that you don’t know any more about this city than Trump does.

Also, I see now why Fox 45 (owned by Sinclair) has a reputation for being Trumpy. The stats she cited about crime dropping in DC are ridiculous - they’re comparing the past two weeks of 2025 with the same two weeks in 2024, while ignoring whether there was any decline this year prior to the past two weeks. (psst, there was)

You get different lists because each list sets a different lower bound for population size. Setting the threshold at 100k, 500k, or 1m can give you drastically different results.
All I know is that many cities in the US had seen what Trump accomplished in DC in just a short time and are now demanding their mayors, "WE WANT THAT!"

Trump's plan is working.

I appreciate that Democratic governors in traditionally blue states are taking measures to address this issue. It is possible that this is a direct result of President Trump's involvement. If President Trump's threat to deploy the National Guard prompted these governors to take action, it raises the question of why similar threats have not been made toward red states. Notably, seven out of ten cities with the highest crime rates in the United States are located in red states.
Red states with blue cities. Memphis is in the cross hairs. It is a small blue dot surrounded by red. So please explain why in every red state there are at least one or two little blue dots that have the highest crime rates? Is the problem the republican governors, or the democrat mayors?

Hello, from the South!

Good morning,

I'm a Catholic from the South and I'm here to meet and make friends with other Catholics/Christians. I watch a lot of Catholic Youtube channels, CatholicTV, EWTN, and I enjoy studying the Catholic Catechism and the Bible. I guess I'm just a Catholic nerd. I'm excited to be apart of such an active community of Christians from other denominations! I hope to make lots of friends and to join in on lots of discussions.

God bless everyone,

GS

Senator Flunks Civics 101: Governments Secure Rights, God Grants Them

This is why I am in favor of term limits. These career politicians spend so much time isolated inside the D.C. Beltway that they have no concept of how the rest of the world lives. Furthermore, they've spent so much time in a stew of corruption, bribes, dealmaking, and self-aggrandizement that they can't even remember what their jobs are, let alone the foundational laws and principles of the country.

Another Introduction

I am in the service of the Lord Jesus as an evangelist under the direction of the Holy Spirit as I seek to inform lukewarm Christians that Mormonism, theology and doctrine, is of the devil and is as far from Christianity as is Greek mythology. I pray that rank and file Christians will realize that the Utah Mormon Church (Latter-day Saints) was prophesied by the Apostle Paul in Galatians 1, as was Islam, as the only false gospels brought to the earth in the latter-days by demonic angels. I will spend what days I have remaining on the earth as an evangelist doing the will of the Savior through the dictates of the Holy Spirit.

Is belief/non-belief a morally culpable state?

This may touch gently on the theological, but I don't think in the sense the OP was warning against. Anyway, the discussion brought to mind a portion of a letter by President John Adams writing to Jefferson.

The human Understanding is a revelation from its Maker which can never be disputed or doubted. ... This revelation has made it certain that two and one make three; and that one is not three; nor can three be one. We can never be So certain of any Prophecy, or the fullfillment of any Prophecy; or of any miracle, or the design of any miracle as We are, from the revelation of nature i.e. natures God that two and two are equal to four. Miracles or Prophecies might frighten Us out of our Witts; might Scare us to death; might induce Us to lie; to Say that We believe that 2 and 2 make 5. But We Should not believe it. We Should know the contrary.

Had you and I, been forty days with Moses on Mount Sinai and admitted to behold, the divine Shekinah, and there told that one was three and three, one: We might not have had courage to deny it; but We could not have believed it. The thunders and Lightenings and Earthquakes and the transcendant Splendors and Glories, might have overwhelmed Us with terror and Amazement: but We could not have believed the doctrine.
Well of course Adam's statement here would presuppose that no human could excel to a knowledge of truth before the authorities of realized truth could declare it. Which begs the reality that of course that knowledge would be out there before humans realize it. (Thus how hypothesis become scientifically reproducible declarations of truth. Someone had to be the first to have a theory to prove.)

Now, is human understanding of truth actually controlled by when Eternity sees fit to reveal it; or was the potential knowledge of the whole of it always there from the beginning? Seems "yes" and "no".

Yet at that, because certain aspects of truth (particularly redemption plan) only come from Eternal revelation, (on account of the finite nature of temporal human corrupted intellectual capacity); it's certainly plausible that Eternity could choose to reveal "advanced knowledge" (of the redemption plan) to a particular individual. As generally these revelations were written down and became a compilation of revealed truth.

But had Eternity done that, in which someone witnessing these things at Sini could have actually "understood and believed the doctrine"? I suppose that's theoretically possible; although the book explained later that an entire generation perished due to disobedience; thus advanced knowledge had not been revealed.

Which presupposes the assumption that certain knowledge is indeed "time line sensitive".

Trump to sign order renaming Pentagon 'Department of War': Sources

Where is the money to implement this change coming from? We don't have enough, they say, to afford universal health care for all citizens but we're willing to spend millions billions on a stupid name change?

Is This The New Normal?

I notice that your opinion seems to have shifted. In previous posts, you attributed crime and poverty to California's progressive policies. However, now that it has been pointed out that 8 out of 10 states with the highest poverty rates are red states, you are suggesting that federal government policy affects poverty across different states.

Now you are arguing about African -American culture without father figure causing poverty.

Which do you think is the main cause of poverty in California: progressive policies or the absence of father figures in American households?

It appears that your reasoning has shifted throughout our discussion. Initially, you stated that California approves violent looting and rioting, which is why the threshold for property theft was increased to $990 USD. When I mentioned that 39 other states have higher thresholds, your argument changed to poverty in California as a contributing factor. After I noted that eight out of ten states with the highest poverty rates are red states, your perspective moved to a cultural explanation involving fatherless families and its connection to poverty.
I have already stated this several times, I was talking about the states response to increased crime. Not anything else. And the CAUSES of crime is a different discussion from the response to crime. Both should be addressed, but they are addressed in different ways.

Democrat Appellate Judge overturns half billion dollar fine

If this case were to go to a completely unbiased court, it will be overruled. No fraud was committed.
Fraudulent financial statements were filed that the banks depended on.
The banks were not a victim of fraud and the loans with interest were paid off on time.
That's not quite true.

NYTimes: How Trump Maneuvered His Way Out of Trouble in Chicago

When his skyscraper proved a disappointment, Donald Trump defaulted on his loans, sued his bank, got much of the debt forgiven — and largely avoided paying taxes on it.

...The president’s federal income tax records, obtained by The New York Times, show for the first time that, since 2010, his lenders have forgiven about $287 million in debt that he failed to repay. The vast majority was related to the Chicago project.

This is just one instance.
Apparently, only liberals might believe that is fraud.
Only if you define "liberal" as anyone who believes that filing false business records constitutes fraud.

Is belief/non-belief a morally culpable state?

I certainly agree with you. I just wasn't aware that "objective true dichotomy" and "subjective true dichotomy" definitions actually existed. And that the term "epiphany" applied. Although I have heard people describe this application thereof in philosophical conversations. I just wasn't aware it had an actual title and definition to it.

Learn something new every day! :sohappy:

Thanks.
My bad, I wrote Person/contentiousness when I meant to write person/consciousness

Trump to sign order renaming Pentagon 'Department of War': Sources

I'm asking you why it should be changed back. Why do you think they're reverting back to this old, outdated name?

To go along with their old, outdated ideas on everything else like tariffs, the confederacy, gender equality, spoils/patronage, territorial conquest, government accountability and oversight, and personal fitness. Seems pretty on brand to me.

I think it reflects more accurately what that department does. It has some defensive components but is mostly about projecting offensive capabilities around the world.

huh, I can actually buy that argument. This could be a case of Trump’s juvenile tendencies aligning with those of the cynics.

God's Will and My Failed First Step(s) in the Christian Walk

But as usual, doubt again followed and I have gone back to Jesus for salvation numerous times since then.
Intrusive thoughts can be debilitating and we all get them to different degrees. What I am certain of is those who suffer from this condition have little control over it. They are not responsible therefore,in your case, continuous doubting will continously be forgiven. Rest in that.

Be Blessed
