Fifth person cured of HIV after stem cell transplant, researchers say

Researchers from Germany say a man has been cured of HIV following a stem cell transplant that was performed after several rounds of chemotherapy, making him the fifth known case of the virus being cured in an individual.

In the study published in the Nature science journal, German researchers detailed the case of a 53-year-old patient who was diagnosed with HIV in 2008. After their diagnosis, the patient was placed on antiretroviral therapy (ART) which suppressed the viral load within their system.

The patient was enrolled in the University Hospital Düsseldorf’s IciStem program, which explores potential HIV cures requiring stem cell transplants.

The patient was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia about three years after being diagnosed with HIV. Remission of their cancer was achieved through an initial round of chemotherapy but was followed by a relapse shortly after.

During the patient’s treatment for their cancer, they received a stem cell transplant from a female donor with whom they matched. This transplant occurred roughly two years after their cancer diagnosis and five years after being diagnosed with HIV.

The female donor had a mutation that is believed to confer resistance to HIV infection.

Is it too late?

I am thinking that God told a couple people that are praying for me not to pray for me anymore Just like God told Jeremiah not to pray for those people in Jeremiah 7:16. I have been seeking God but Grinding. I think God has hardened my heart. There is such a thing as being too sinful to be saved.

Question regarding Ecumenical Councils

Hi there, I'm a convert to Orthodox Christianity who relatively recently had something of a crisis of faith, where I felt like my faith in the Church was completely unravelling. Not my belief in God, but my faith in the claims that the Church makes about itself. For the most part this passed, though a slightly uncomfortable feeling has remained.

Today I happened to wonder whether a full Church Council would still be possible, or whether the lack of an Emperor to call it would preclude that. In my reading, I was quite shocked to discover that there is no actual definition for what constitutes an Ecumenical Council. There seem to be two opposing views, neither of which can be entirely correct given the facts of history. One is an authoritative, top-down approach, which is that the council is authoritative in and of itself due to the authority of the hierarchs. Buy this cannot be the case as we recognise that there have been so-called "Robber Councils." The alternative view is 'Receptionism' which is the idea that what makes a Council truly valid is its reception by the entire Church. But this cannot be true, as at Chalcedon, it was not received by the entire Church, hence the Schism. Some could argue that the the people who accepted it were the Church, and those who did not accept it put themselves outside of it. But that is circular reasoning, and goes against what happened with the so-called "Robber Councils" - they could have just said the same thing then, that those who disagreed put themselves outside the Church by doing so. The other problem with the Receptionist view is that early Councils clearly did not see themselves in that light. They did not wait for the whole Church to receive them before acting upon their decisions. The Receptionist view seems to have been developed fairly late as a way to explain the phenomenon of "Robber Councils," but when considered in the light of the statements and behaviour of the early Councils, and the Chalcedonian Schism, is simply doesn't make sense.

From what I can see, the only option remaining is simply that what happens is what is supposed to happen, because it happened. But thst undermines the idea that doctrine is correct based on its actual truth and internal consistency, and leaves it entirely to the playing out of events in history. It also leaves open the possibility that there could be some Council in the future that changes doctrine in a way that people today would consider unconscionable, and would say go completely against Tradition. Such as female Priests, or adding new books to the canon of Scripture, or scrapping the Liturgy, or something else of a similarly extreme nature.

Now, some might say that as the Holy Spirit guides the Church, and Christ promised that the gates of hell would not overcome it, that will not happen. OK, but that still doesn't explain what defines an Ecumenical Council, what makes it an Ecumenical Council, it can only define them as being such from a position of hindsight by the fact of that being what was handed down.

And then I realised that the doctrine of the Holy Spirit guiding the Church and Christ saying that the gates of hell will not overcome it completely undermines the Church's claims about the central importance of free will. If people have free will, then everyone could apostasise and there be no-one left for the Holy Spirit to work through. If people have free will, every Orthodox Christian on earth could decide to follow a different confession, or a different religion, or no religion at all. The claim that there is this absolute certainty about the future of the Church cannot be reconciled with free will. And yet so many of the arguments that the Church Fathers made about doctrine were based on the supposed truth of free will. The entire basis of the Church's doctrine on sin and repentance, on asceticism, on holiness and Sainthood, and the repudiation of things like astrology, rely on free will.

This stuff is all just so much more messy than I realised. I never had the chance to get into this stuff beforehand as I did not receive catechesis, and my Priest was very keen to baptise me. I was Baptised after four months of attending Liturgy, and that was because I made my Priest wait for an extra month, or it would have been three months.

It's really difficult because on the one hand, I'm glad I didn't wait and have more thorough teaching cos if I did I might not have been Baptised, and I really do love the Church, but on the other hand I'm struggling with the thought that to continue I will have to switch my brain off and force myself to accept things that just don't make sense. I have no problem with miracles and the Resurrection, things like that, I don't mean that, what I mean is the internal consistency on what the Church claims about the Church. This issue of what exactly makes an Ecumenical Council and Ecumenical Council doesn't seem to have an answer. Every potential answer seems to have a flaw in it. Can anyone explain this in a way that makes sense and is consistent?

Thank you.

Shame and nudity

God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and he created them nude... He declared his work good.

After eating from the tree of knowledge Adam and Eve felt shame at their nudity.... Why? What was wrong with nudity? Clothes were contrary to God's plan for humanity...
I don't understand why Adam and Eve decided nudity was shameful when it was God's wish for us to be nude... how can it be sin?

Schism of EOTC Bishop in Oromia Region of Ethiopia; Coptic Orthodox Church response

I suppose with much of the news coming out of Ethiopia these days being on the trouble with Tigray, we're bound to miss some things as laypeople in her sister churches, but I was still shocked to learn yesterday that about a month ago, a bishop within the EOTC in the Oromia region of Ethiopia went into schism by attempting to elevate himself to 'Patriarch of Oromia', a position which obviously does not exist (the EOTC Patriarch is HH Abune Matthias, period), and moreover could not exist because Oromia is not a separate country. This is, as far as I'm concerned, one step away from the dreaded heresy of ethnophyletism that has plagued our EO friends in the past (the only reason I'm even writing 'one step away' is because I don't know anything about the ethnic background of the renegade bishop in question, so I don't know if he is an ethnic Oromo or not). Ethiopia itself as a country may arrange its regions according to their primary ethnic makeup (e.g., Tigray from the Tigrayans, Oromia from the Oromo, Afar from the Afar, etc.), but the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is a fittingly 'supra-ethnic' institution, embracing every people from the Semites of the highlands, to the Cushites of the south and east (the Oromo themselves being the largest single group), to the Omotic and other peoples of the south like the Dorze and many others. So this is distressing, and certainly not something that the EOTC or Ethiopia more generally needs on its plate right now (or ever; Lord have mercy).

Obviously HH Abune Matthias and all others within the EOTC who are not among those who conspired to hold this 'Oromia Holy Synod' which announced this phony elevation in the first place completely reject this action (HH already summoned bishops from the around the world to discuss this when it originally happened, back in January). In addition, here is the official statement of the Coptic Orthodox Church concerning this situation:

May the Holy Trinity protect our bishops in every place within the holy Orthodox Church of God, and may schisms cease and those who precipitate them renounce their evil works and return in obedience, with a spirit of repentance.

Joe Biden visits Kyiv in major show of support for Ukraine

Joe Biden has visited the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, defying threats of Russian missile attacks, to announce a new package of additional US weapons supplies worth $500m (£415m), as Ukraine prepares to mark the sombre anniversary of last year’s full-scale Russian invasion.

The US president, closely surrounded by a large security detail, was escorted by his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, on a walkabout around central Kyiv as air sirens could be heard, confirming rumours of a visit that had been circulating during the morning.

This is good for the defence of Ukraine and Europe - and the free world. Putin is wrong-footed, again.

Fox News was ‘deliberately lying’

The Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe said Dominion Voting Systems’ brief requesting summary judgment against Fox News for defamation – and $1.6bn – is “likely to succeed and likely to be a landmark” in the history of freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Dominion looks set to win this massive lawsuit, exposing Fox News as lying repeatedly to the American public. It will be a disaster for Fox News, already troubled by the prospect of falling ratings. It cannot be good for the Trump Presidential ambitions either...

Christianity measured against religion.

Some say Christianity is not a religion, but I believe that it is. However it is possible to discuss the similarities and differences between Christianity and different religions, and how Christians perceive God, salvation, and the meaning of life, and how you preceive the way other religions each approach questions about God, salvation, and the meaning of life.

prayers to the saints (Eastern Orthodox and EO-friendly only)

I thought, if no one objects, we could have a thread for prayers to the saints. Perhaps note why you think the world (or some part of it) could use the prayers of certain saints. Others can pray to the same saints if they wish upon seeing your post.

For example:

St. Philip of Moscow (spoke truth to a secular power)
St. Philip, pray for us!

St. Sophrony of Essex (prayed deeply for the world at a time of terrible trouble)
St. Sophrony, pray for us!

Our most holy Lady Theotokos, save us!

Discipline

Jeremiah 30:11 (NASB)

But I will discipline you fairly.

These days we tend to frown upon the word "discipline" in the church. It's too harsh and rigid. We prefer terms such as grace, love, forgiveness, and such. Many saints fail to understand that God's discipline and judgment result from His mercy, which keeps us from sinning and being damned. It's the grace of God that chastens us as God disciplines us as His sons and daughters (Hebrews 12:6). Satan would love to be ultra-liberal with us and recommends that we do anything that makes us feel good (Genesis 3:4). But it's God's discipline that keeps our feet on the straight and narrow road (Matthew 7:14). God's chastening may be painful in the early stages of our Christian life as we have to undo and unlearn decades of bad living. But as we continue with the Lord, His discipline and interventions are welcome reminders as He keeps our feet from slipping. A saint learns to say, "your rod and your staff, they comfort me, O God."

E-Temptations

Has technology helped in life's scope of fundamentally flawed nature? Much can be retrieved of this for commoners to inform themselves, but do exhibit care when relying more on the programmer, than the sacred text. Today's temptations confronted upon programmers and webmaster decisions, esp. Christian webmastering (such as what we enjoy here) is compounded if they are not 'fully furnished' or, exhibit novice denominational bias which enflames those involved with "defilement". These decisions fall into the same category of instruction as "teachers".

For there is a reason why the Holy Spirit made note of such severity,

Not many of you should be teachers my brothers, knowing that we will receive greater judgment. (James 3:1)

Are you happy with CF's utilizing of oversight?

Pray for the webmaster!

No Fear of God

Psalms 36:1-4 ESV

“Transgression speaks to the wicked
deep in his heart;
there is no fear of God
before his eyes.
For he flatters himself in his own eyes
that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.
The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit;
he has ceased to act wisely and do good.
He plots trouble while on his bed;
he sets himself in a way that is not good;
he does not reject evil.”

Who are the wicked? According to Scripture, they are all who are living in sin, for whom sin is their practice, and righteousness, holiness, and obedience to our Lord are not what they practice. So, yes, this includes many people who profess faith in Jesus Christ but who deny him by their actions. For their service to God is lip service only. Thus, the wicked are not just those who make no profession of faith in Jesus Christ.

[Jn 3:19-20; 2 Thes 2:9-10; 2 Thes 3:1-2; Jas 1:19-21; 3 Jn 1:10; Matt 7:21-23; Matt 15:18-20; Mk 7:20-22; Lu 6:45; Lu 13:26-28; Jn 5:28-29; Rom 1:29-32; Rom 2:6-10; 1 Co 6:9-10; 2 Co 5:10; Gal 5:16-21; Eph 5:3-6; Col 3:5-11; Heb 3:12; 1 Pet 3:12; 1 Jn 1:5-10; 1 Jn 2:3-6; 1 Jn 3:4-10]

So, when this says here that transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart, this is not speaking only of those who do not profess Christ as Lord and Savior, but it includes many who profess Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives. For out of their hearts come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, pride, foolishness, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, and slander, etc.

And many people, at least here in America, who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior indeed have no fear of God before their eyes, for they treat God as though they are doing him a favor by professing faith in him, and they treat him often as though he is a genie in the sky or a doting grandfather in the sky there to grant their every wish and desire while they continue to ignore him and his commands and continue in their sin and rebellion.

For so many of them have bought into a cheapened form of God’s grace and his gospel which only requires a one-time human-based faith in Christ which they believe guarantees them forgiveness of all sin (past, present, and future), and which guarantees them heaven when they die, regardless of how they live on this earth. For many are being taught that they do not have to repent of their sins, and they do not have to obey the Lord, and no works are required of them at all, but they leave out Ephesians 2:10.

And, yes, the wicked who profess faith in Jesus Christ do flatter themselves, not only that their sins will not be discovered, but that their sins will not be held to their account. For they presume upon God that his salvation from sin only entails forgiveness of their sins and the guarantee of heaven when they die while they dismiss all the Scriptures which teach that we must deny self and daily die to sin and that we must walk in obedience to our Lord.

And they ignore all the Scriptures which teach professing Christians that if they walk in sin, according to the flesh, and if they do not walk in holiness and in righteousness, in obedience to the Lord, that they will die in their sins and they will not inherit eternal life with God. They act as though those Scriptures do not even exist. For a lot of their “faith” is based off Scriptures taught out of context and made to say what the Scriptures do not say.

[Matt 7:21-23; Lu 9:23-26; Jn 6:35-58; Jn 15:1-11; Rom 1:18-32; Rom 2:6-8; Rom 6:1-23; Rom 8:1-14; 1 Co 6:9-10; 2 Co 5:10; Gal 5:16-21; Gal 6:7-8; Eph 5:3-6; Col 1:21-23; Col 3:5-11; 1 Jn 1:5-10; 1 Jn 2:3-6; 1 Jn 3:4-10; Heb 10:23-31; 1 Pet 1:17-21; Rev 21:8,27; Rev 22:14-15]

So, yes, the words of the mouths of the wicked and the evildoers are trouble and deceit, because they lie as a matter of practice in order to hide their sins, and they willfully plot to deceive others with stories they make up in order to try to trick them into believing their lies while ignoring the truth. So, not unlike the Pharisees, they may put on a show of righteousness as a coverup for the evil they are doing behind closed doors.

And they do indeed plot trouble while on their beds, especially if the trouble they are involved in has anything to do with sensuality and sexual immorality. For that, I believe, is the predominant sin permeating today’s modern market-driven “churches” (businesses called “church”). And it is the prevailing sin among those professing faith in Jesus Christ, I believe. And it is absolutely wrecking marriages and families and people’s lives.

And this is the sad reality of the lives of many who profess faith in Jesus Christ but who are convinced that their sins will not be discovered and that they will not be held against them. But read the noted lists of Scriptures above. The Scriptures teach the opposite of that. They teach that if we walk in sin and not in righteousness and holiness, and not in obedience to our Lord, that we will not inherit eternal life with God. We will die in our sins, and heaven will not be our eternal destiny. So please take this to heart.

So, if you want to be saved from your sins and to have eternal life with God, you must die with our Lord to sin, not just once, but daily, and you must walk (in conduct, in practice) according to the Spirit and no longer according to the flesh. For Jesus died that horrible death on that cross so we would die with him to sin and live with him to his righteousness (1 Peter 2:24). And he died to free us from our slavery to sin so we would now walk in obedience to his commands (New Covenant). (See noted Scriptures above)

If That Isn’t Love

By Dottie Rambo

He left the splendor of heaven
Knowing His destiny
Was the lonely hill of Golgotha
There to lay down His life for me

And if that isn't love
Then the ocean is dry
There's no stars in the sky
And the little sparrows can't fly
Yeah if that isn't love
Then heaven's a myth
There's no feeling like this
If that isn't love

Who wouldn’t want to be a universalist? (and why I’m not)

Who wouldn’t want to believe everybody wins — that in the end, God doesn’t have the heart to leave anyone behind?

That my non-believing uncle who drank himself to death and my friend who worships the sun god and even my neighbor who believes in nothing but who’s really nice and serves at the soup kitchen every Thursday … who wouldn’t want to believe that all of them will end up in Heaven one day?

It would make life simpler, wouldn’t it?

Universalism cloaks itself in love and acceptance, accusing those who don’t agree with it of being narrow, rigid, angry, unloving. “Love wins,” it urges. “Can’t we all just get along?”

We ought to be all for it. It would be a whole lot easier on all of us if we could skip that part about truth being absolute, basing our choices instead on moment and mood. It would free up a lot of time in my week. Church is fun, but not that fun. Coffee and a good newsfeed in yoga pants is also fun; so is sleeping late.

I was ordained alongside someone who called himself a universalist and was stunned that no one in the hierarchy of my United Methodist tribe had a problem with that. He also considered himself a Christian (a Christian pastor, at that) but didn’t believe Jesus cared what choice we make about truth. That’s the thing about universalism. It is predestination’s odd other half. Jesus will send you to heaven whether you want to go or not. Choice is out the window just as surely as if your salvation was determined before your birth. As a theology it isn’t Christian.

The Great Cadbury Egg Robbery

A man in the UK faces two years in jail for stealing 200,000 Cadbury Creme eggs.

God allowing evil to rule

I know that people will say that God has given man free choice to choose him or against him and that's why things are so, but I am still frustrated over the whole thing. God may say in the Bible that he is objectively just and all-benevolent, but sometimes life is cold or unjust. People live their whole lives and die in non-peaceful conditions, and before they can ever get justice.

God tells us to have patience and that he has his timing, but our life down here does not wait. People get older, weaker, civilizations rise and fall, etc. If you were in a situation where someone got away with something very horrible and heartbreaking done to you, and the damage wasn't rectified within a reasonable short measure of time, you would feel cheated and frustrated. Our own secular concept of justice, on paper, is that "bad guys" get justice within a reasonably swift time, and that the victim is fairly compensated.

Exodus 21: the "jurisprudence" of the Torah, still for today? or some of it?

PARASHA: “Mishpatim” (Judgments) EXODUS 21:1-24:18 “Bringing to light the meaning of some difficult commandments"

This parashah involves the giving of a variety of commandments, that Elohim gave to Moshe to give/write down, and teach to “b'nei Israel” the first has to do with servants and their treatment. The system of slavery in Israel back in Biblical times was very much different than the cruel slavery of Africans here in the United States, starting from the 1600s, into colonial days, up until the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.

Unfortunately, the slave owners used the bible as a “reason” to own slaves, as they said, “The Bible permits slavery!” Yes, but only in extreme circumstances when one could not pay one's debts. And the person was only a slave for 6 years, in year 7, the master had to release the slave, and give the slave gifts of oil, wine, and wheat, so he or she could start life over again.

The slave could not be abused like slaves were whipped and abused under American slavery. But if the slave wished to remain with the master, the master could make a hole in the slave's ear and put in a ring, indicating that the slave was a slave for life, (being the choice of the slave) but “life” was up to 50 years, until the year of “Jubilee” if the slave chose to be with his or her master for “life” and the year, let's say was “40” then, “Life” was 10 years more, and then the slave would be released.

It is interesting to read that the scripture says in Exodus 21:6 “Then his master will bring him before Elohim and shall bring him to the door or the doorpost and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl”

The word, Elohim, can not only mean “God” but also, “Those who represent God” perhaps Levites, officials of the Tabernacle, the temple, city, etc. The word “Master” is a form of “Adonai” in this part, it is spelled; “Adonav” (his master). The doorpost was the official place of doing business, like at the county clerk’s office. So, the person who loved his master made his love for him official, before “Adonav” (His master) before “Elohim” (God himself and before those who represent Him.

If the slave was hurt in any way, say the master hit the slave and knocked a tooth out, or put an eye out, the slave was to be released immediately, and with compensation. Not so in America during the years of slavery.

Rav Shaul/Paul the Apostle talks about being “bond slaves” to Messiah Yeshua, and that is our state. Would we want to be “released” from following HIM? Would we want to be under a “different master?” There are only two that claim our lives; Yeshua or HaSatan. We were “bought with a price” the price of blood, and we were released from Satan's bondage, to follow and subject ourselves to a new master, “Adonai” which means; “my master” We are “servants” to the Most High God. The Hebrew word for “Slave” and “servant” is the same word: “Eved” slaves/servants were not considered “objects of purchase” or “property” they were considered “human beings” just like we are considered in the eyes of YHVH his “servants’ “children” “adopted sons and daughters”. Do not sons and daughters serve their parents?

”An eye for an eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe; (21:24....) if you read on, we see that it doesn't mean, “if you knock out my tooth, I have a right to knock your tooth out too” or “if you blind me in on eye, I have the right to put out your eye” or in modern terminology, “If you break my stereo, I have the right to go into your house and smash your stereo” how I ask you, does that solve the problem? It doesn't, it just creates more problems. If we look at this situation in light of scripture, it is saying in other words; “just compensation for hurt or damage received”

How would that work? If I broke your arm accidentally or on purpose, I would be responsible for taking you to the doctor and paying the medical bill, and even, paying you “lost wages” if you couldn't work. It doesn't mean that the other guy could break “my arm too”. If you broke my stereo, then I would expect you to either pay to have it fixed or buy me another one of equal value, (arm for an arm, stereo for stereo, etc.)

We continue to read about many rules, commandments, and judgments, that make very good sense, even today, yet many of these judgments are not practiced today, everyone is off to the lawyers for a lawsuit. My opinion is that if the legal system today, was set up to reflect the Biblical standards of criminal justice in accordance with God's Word, there would be a lot less crime. The criminals would think twice before committing crimes. An example would be the following; A man goes to prison for stealing a car, sells it, and spends the money, so the prisoner has to work in prison and the money he would make would be sent to the victim to compensate the loss.

His sentence would end only when the sum is completed. Or...the court system would pay the victim the money lost in the theft, and the thief would have to work to pay back the court. This type of punishment would reflect more the Torah standard of criminal justice.

We come now to Exodus 23:19. “You shall bring the first fruits of thy land unto the House of YHVH, thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk”

One commandment does not even reflect the other. It would be like saying, “turn out the lights when you leave the house, hey, don't forget to check the mailbox for mail”. What has one got to do with the other? G-d is saying here to bring your tithe to the House of YHVH but then goes on to a different subject. Would this; “seething a kid in its mother's milk” be taken literally? In order to break this commandment, one would have to take a kid goat, butcher it, cut up the meat, then take the mother goat, milk her, then boil the meat in the mother's milk. Who would go to the trouble to do all that? Today, when people make stew, the meat is usually boiled/seethed in water with condiments, not in milk. But if we look at this commandment in a derashic sense, (the moral and spiritual sense) we could get this understanding;

It may be all about the separation of life and death, of the clean from unclean (Tamei from tahor) good from bad. In “Basar v'chalav” (meat and milk) we can see that the word “Chalav”(milk) spelled in Hebrew is “Chet, Lamed, Beit (ch+l+v) yet the word “fat” is also spelled (ch+l+v) yet pronounced “Chelev” They are related, “milk” is a form of “fat”, and the fat of an animal was offered up on the altar to YHVH, as a “sweet savor” a “pleasant smell” unto YHVH, this was part of the worship service.

We worship G-d with our full “heart” and the word “Ch+l+v” contains the letters “lamed” and “beit” (l+v) (Lev) which means “heart” Milk symbolizes “life” a baby is nurtured by its mother's milk to live, to have life. Yet the flesh (Basar) symbolizes death, as a believer, to be in the “flesh” is the opposite to being “in the spirit, full of life”. Once the animal is cut up, if not used, the flesh sits and rots, flies come around, and it becomes “Tamei” (unclean) when we are in the “flesh” we are in a way of speaking, “unclean” spiritually, until we confess our sins, and become as “milk” (full of life) again, walking in the spirit, and, like the fat of a clean animal, being a “sweet savor unto YHVH .

This is just one way one can look at this prohibition of boiling a kid in its mother's milk, from a Derashic (moral and spiritual) standpoint. (watch “Basar v' Chalav/Meat and Milk” on YouTube “Kehilah Melech Yisrael”)

”if you meet an enemy's ox or his ass going astray, you will bring it back to him again” (Ex 23:4) This is one way to make your enemy, your friend, make peace with him. Would not this be for today as well, of course, it would! It may not be an ox, maybe his wallet with his ID and money. “Do not oppress the stranger, seeing you were strangers in the land of Egypt?” other bibles say “foreigner” the USA used to welcome all immigrants, but now many are being oppressed, being deported, being cheated in wages, we must turn this around and start helping those who come to this country to seek a better life, thus turning a curse into a blessing.

If you read from chap 21 to 24 and look carefully at the commandments/judgments, you will see that most make perfect sense even in our modern days. God's Word is right on the money!

South Has Low Credit Scores, Economists Blame Medical Debt

Almost every corner of America’s most populous region — every race, every income bracket — appears to have low credit scores. But why?

The region’s poor credit means Southerners are paying more to borrow money, assuming they can qualify for loans at all. That sets them back in everything from car and home purchases to credit card rewards. Yes, even credit card rewards.

…demography is no match for geography. Even some of the South’s biggest, most dynamic cities — think Atlanta or Dallas — have the same below-average credit scores as their more rural Southern neighbors. Within every income bracket, the typical Southerner has a lower credit score than someone who lives in the Northeast, Midwest or West.

The reason why credit scores are so low in the South has gotta be connected to medical debt, because that’s the most common type of unpaid bill that people have,” Braga said. And the South, he said, easily has the highest levels of medical debt in the country.

Titus 1
appoint elders in every town as I directed you— 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7 For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach

I invite discussion on the issue of whether the spiritual health of our offspring should impede our leadership in the Church.

I some parts of the world if a Church Elder has a child in rebellion, the matter is taken very seriously and the elders might all fast and seek God to bring repentance to the son or daughter. The leader must step down until the matter is resolved.

I have heard of this approach being employed with great effect.

This matter is not generally considered in the modern church - are we missing something - should we gather around those who are struggling with offspring who are wandering into sin and stand with them until we see matters resolved?
