Ohio governor Mike DeWine (R) vetoes ban on gender-affirming care for minors

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) struck down a bill that would have banned gender-affirming care for minors, preserving such care for residents beyond his state as well, because families of transgender youths who live in states with bans have been traveling to Ohio for treatment.

Republicans, who have a supermajority in the legislature, could override DeWine’s veto and are expected to push back.

“These are gut-wrenching decisions that should be made by parents and should be informed by teams of doctors who are advising them,” DeWine continued. “Were I to sign House Bill 68, or were House Bill 68 to become law, Ohio would be saying that the state, that the government knows better what is medically best for a child than the two people who love that child the most: The parents.”

Painting Sunflowers for the Ukrainian People

Bright yellow sunflowers set against a blue sky is one of many new murals blossoming on the Arkansas River Levee in Pueblo. It’s a mural dedicated to the people of Ukraine.

“I don't know if that does anything to the universe, but I hope so,” said Shannon Powers. “You know, just the feeling that there are people out there that care about you when you're suffering, I think is important.”

Powers is among the handful of artists working on the sunflowers. Longtime Pueblo Levee Mural coordinator Cynthia Ramu organized this group effort.

With so much controversial news about Ukraine and much of it not very supportive I found this to be a bit of encouragement and comfort.

today's slavery vs slavery of the 1800s

If people have so much issues with the slaves of yesyear and the way they were treated ( not saying that slavery was right, but clearly there were many of slaves that were provided for and even chose to stay with their masters once freed.

This being the case why is it that today's slaves (in a sense in a much worse spot because they are often not provided for and there is more slaves now than there has EVER been number two ( along with the fact that there are more of them which tells me in ad of itself that either people do not care or for slavery to be illegal they are AWFUL are enforcing it ( in terms of the owners) The real kicker though is depending on where you are today's slaves actually have to prove that they are slaves so that THEY will not face legal charges ( that depends on location and the age of the person, but still for people to say that slavery is SO wrong ( not saying it is not but for people to assert that it is so wrong and is illegal they surely have done a VERY poor job of ridding the world of it.

In short why do people have such a problem with the slavery of yesterday and yet there are more slaves now than ever and some of the laws actually STILL favor the owners why does it seem to matter what "kind" of slaves they were sex slaves as opposed to working slaves.

In fact, the human "black market" that is the slave market ( trafficing humans is I believe the largest black market in the world. For people to be so up in arms about the slavery of 100s of years ago it sure seems like the only thing that has really changed is what the slaves are expected to do and if anything they are treated worse now ( on the whole than they were then what gives?

Leftist violence is not symbolic: Today’s America parallels 1930s Germany

Mr. Biden is also an old, weak and doddering man who refuses to control or even denounce the antisemitic liberals in his party for fear of losing the support of leftist organizations such as Black Lives Matter, which is funding antisemitic groups.
History does often repeat itself, unfortunately. The same dynamics which led to the rise of antisemitism in Nazi Germany in the early 1930s are happening again, only in America.
We must ensure that Democrats do not take Trump off of the ballot and that the American people are allowed to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Secular dating easier than Christian dating due to no hang-ups

As unusual as the title may sound, I was doing a Google search on this topic, and had come across message boards of Christian singles suffering the same plight. "I'm Frustrated Trying To Date Christian Women"

The whole "I'm dating Jesus" thing or "I think of you as a brother in Christ" excuses.

It appears when though a guy is looking for a Christian woman to date, there is never really what appears to be honest communication from the Christian, and they hide behind their faith as a reason to side-step their real answers. Where as secular types tend to be more candid if things aren't working out.

There are concerns about even if you did get into a dating relationship with a Christian woman (or man), that everything would have to be so legalistic. This is where people lose sight of dating and the getting to know you process. It's rather unnatural.

An excerpt:

I'll set aside the 'unequally yoked' speech (which I'm sure you'll get from half the comments here) and risk the downvotes by saying that I don't blame you. There's following God and there's religion, and religious people can be the worst. It can be refreshing to just hang with people who don't carry the baggage of years of repression and judgment and insipid rules (like how quick you can kiss or how fast you're going to hell if your divorce wasn't exactly in line with the sometimes vague language in the Bible).

Also:

I think when people note the steep dropoff of younger people who identify as religious/churchgoers, that culture is largely responsible. Millennials and younger generations want realness, and it can be hard to find there.

The link to the post is up top (right), there's a good amount of insight, and it definitely resonates with me.

It's ironic, that even though unequally yoked, that you can connect and be compatible in every other way with a secular person, if you set religion/faith aside. This is how frustrating it can be.

I've been talking to a Christian woman that is this way, and she's told me she's been on very few dates, and the dates she had been on, she did meet in church, but apparently, she didn't think they thirst for Christ as much as she did....like...they weren't at her level....regardless of their faith. And they're all Christian across the board, just didn't share the same "thirst" for it as she did.

If These Were Silent

“As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’ And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples.’ He answered, ‘I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.’
“And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, ‘Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.’
“And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, ‘It is written, “My house shall be a house of prayer,” but you have made it a den of robbers.’
“And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy him, but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words.” (Luke 19:37-48 ESV)

I live in the United States of America, a nation which is touted as a “Christian” nation, “one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.” For “Christianity” is the number one religion in the USA, but on a fairly worldly scale overall, based upon what the Scriptures teach. For it appears that the majority of professers of faith in Jesus Christ in America are following more after the teachings of humans than they are following after the teachings of Christ and of his NT apostles, in full context.

The masses appear to have largely accepted an altered and diluted gospel message created in the minds of human beings which does not require death to sin and walks of obedience to the Lord and to his commands. And it promises its adherents that if they just profess faith in Jesus Christ that now all their sins are forgiven (past, present, and future), that heaven is now guaranteed them, that nothing can take it away from them, and that they can sin as much as they want and still go to heaven when they die, basically.

So, many of those followers of Christ who are still holding to the tenets of the faith, as taught by Jesus and by his NT apostles, in full context, who are openly and publicly sharing the truths of the Scriptures, are largely being ignored or rebuked or silenced, and are being called “legalists” and teachers of “works salvation” and “negative,” and thus to be cast out and aside and treated as though we are the enemy. I had one pastor tell me he was warned about people like me, people with “strong convictions.”

But Jesus says, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

And so Jesus weeps over the USA, too, because so many who profess his name are blinded from seeing the truth and are following after the lies, instead. Those who are still teaching the truth of the gospel don’t normally have large followings, though some do. But those who are teaching what people’s itching ears want to hear have people flocking to them by the hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions, for they are teaching what the people like to hear, not what they need to hear.

And although I do believe that my nation is under the judgment of God, and that one day our physical enemies are going to come against us to destroy us as a nation, right now we are being destroyed from within by the many wolves in sheep’s clothing (charlatans) among us who have deceived the minds and hearts of so many people. And they aren’t all preachers, but many of them are politicians and our government heads, too. They are the enemies within who are killing our nation from within its own borders.

They are the ones who are tearing us down to the ground because they have been able to deceive the masses into following them and believing in their lies. And they are the ones who have obliterated, not only the truth of the gospel, but the character of Almighty God and the true meaning of “church.” For they have turned the gatherings of what are called “churches” into businesses of men, being marketed to the world just like any other businesses. And thus they alter what is of God to make it likeable to man.

But Jesus says, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers” (or into a marketplace).

And “his house”, i.e. the church, is not a building, and it is not a church denomination, and it is not a corporation under the state, and it is not a social club or a civic center, and it is not a house of entertainment, and it is not a business to be marketed to the world, although this is what it has been made into. But “his house” is his body, the body of Christ comprised of all who are of genuine faith in Jesus Christ who are denying self, dying daily to sin, and who are following the Lord Jesus in obedience to his commands.

So, if we are out there teaching the truth that Jesus and his NT apostles taught, in context, and if we are sharing the truth of the gospel, and the truth about who the church really is, and how she is supposed to function biblically, and if we are refuting the lies of the enemy coming against us, then we are going to have people who are out to destroy us and to silence us and who will try to keep others from hearing our messages because they don’t want the people to hear the truth. They want them believing the lies.

Hear my Voice

An Original Work / July 9, 2012
Based off Psalm 27

The Lord is my great salvation.
He’s the stronghold of my life.
When my enemies attack me,
My heart will not fear at all.
Though a war break out against me,
Confident in Christ I’ll be.
Of the Lord, I ask that I may
Live with Him eternally.

Hear my voice, Lord, when I call you.
Merciful to me You’ll be.
Though my relatives forsake me,
My Lord God will receive me.
Teach me Your way, O my Jesus.
Lead me in Your righteousness.
I will sacrifice to my Lord.
I will sing with joyfulness.

I am confident that I will
See the goodness of the Lord.
All the richness of His blessings,
My Lord has for me in store.
He asks me to be of courage;
To be strong and to take heart,
Patiently as I wait for Him,
And from Him to ne’er depart.

Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. While freedom of religion is guaranteed in the constitution, Muslims generally receive preferential treatment from the government. In order to establish and operate places of worship, permits are officially required; yet, in practise, only non-Muslims must comply. These permits are very difficult for churches to obtain. To be granted an official permit, each congregation must be comprised of a minimum of 90 members and needs authorization from at least 60 non-Christian residents in the area.
Conflicts about worship services dominate many of the reports coming from Indonesia. Because of the restrictive nature of the permit process, churches will frequently gather without a permit, which can bring about conflict with opposing neighbours. Even for small groups of believers gathering in a home – something that is officially permitted by the government – there may be demands placed upon them to obtain a permit.
In an incident that took place this February, a local village official violently demanded that a church service stop, claiming that the congregation did not have a permit. Due to the nature of the attack, the official was charged and convicted for his assault, and the church was issued a temporary permit while working through the arduous process of obtaining permanent governmental approval.
For the Yasmin Church in Bogor, the permit process was a long time coming. Initially approved in 2006, the church encountered numerous delays due to opposition from some of the Muslim residents. Although the permit took more than 15 years to obtain, along with a forced relocation, the church finally opened on Easter Sunday with several politicians in attendance.
Various levels of government have tried to change the image of the country. In 2022, when the country's Muslim president attended a Christmas Day service, he called for peace between religions. Additionally, the mayor of Bogor took part in the inauguration of the Yasmin Church, despite years of opposition from locals officials. While these political leaders' actions can be viewed as examples of religious tolerance, the ongoing opposition of others at the local level continues to impede any progress towards religious freedom. For more details on these reports, and others relating to Indonesia, go to our country report.
Prayerfully remember Indonesian Christians who continue to gather together for worship, despite the opposition they encounter from disagreeing local officials. Pray that these believers will receive the Lord's wisdom, direction and favour as they determine how to best navigate through the confusing and obstructive regulations in order to obtain permanent permits. In the midst of the political challenges, and opposition from community members, may Christians throughout this Southeast Asian country serve as examples of God's love and saving grace to their neighbours, so many more names may be added to the Lamb's "Book of Life."

INDIA

This year started and ended with reports about Christians who were detained in the state of Uttar Pradesh due to its anti-conversion legislation. This is one of the 12 Indian states that has laws regulating religious conversions, with increasing political pressure being placed on the country's government to enact the legislation nationally. While regulations protecting people from religious conversions by force or deception may be beneficial, the regulations are often misused by individuals and officials as a way of stopping any religious activity they personally oppose.
On January 2nd, accusations of coercion led to a violent confrontation at a Catholic church in Chahattisgarh. Significant damage was made to the church building, and several police officers were injured while attempting to intervene. Christians have also been accused when conducting small gatherings in their homes. In early June, a group of militants disrupted a family gathering, resulting in the arrests of five Christians. Thankfully, those who had been arrested were eventually released on bail.
In a positive development, following elections that took place in the state of Karnataka this past May, action has begun to repeal the state's anti-conversion laws. This move has been strongly opposed by the BJP – a political party with strong Hindu-nationalist leanings. Even so, a recently made court ruling in the state of Uttar Pradesh may help to further mitigate the effects of the state's future laws. The judge ruled that "accusations of alluring people to convert" can only be filed by the person being allegedly targeted or by a family member of that person. He also provided some legal guidelines on what constitutes "allurement." For more details about this court ruling, go to this page.
Known as the most populous nation in the world, India is officially a secular country guided by a constitution that guarantees religious freedom. However, the process of ensuring that this freedom is respected has proven to be a difficult task in a country where there is strong pressure to establish India officially as a Hindu nation. For more reports on India, and/or to view podcasts addressing Christian persecution in this country, go to our country report.
Prayerfully uphold the many Christians in India who are facing serious threats to their freedoms, securities and safeties because of their faith in Christ. May believers throughout this nation receive the spiritual strength required to stand firm in the midst of extreme opposition and brightly shine His light in the darkness. Please also remember the ongoing ministry work of those who are boldly reaching out to others with the "Good News" of Jesus. May any further threats from their opponents not stop the proclamation of the Gospel, but rather serve as the catalyst for leading many more to faith in the "Prince of Peace."

Shall Christians beat their swords into plough blades?

Isaiah 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Micah 4:3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Is this a call to Christians today, or is it history that Christians need not practice?

Scary coincodences.

I have had ocd all my life. In many different ways. But recently its gotten REALLY freaky. Super weird coincidences are happening and making me so afraid. For example, ill think "if X is real, make it so (person) reaches out to me in the next 2 days" or whatever. AND THEY DO! These are people who I havent talked to in over a YEAR and here they are crawling out of the wood work. Another example was "if X will happen make it so my hotel room number is 123" (I was soon to go on vacation) sure enough my hotel room ended up being room 123. These are not coincidences. I have seen a lot of coincidences as my ocd makes me notice them but these are too direct. What in the fresh hell are these, i am terrified. I almost wonder if Satan is making these come true cause he knows it would derail me.

What does John the Baptist mean by “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

The Text:

Matthew 3:11 “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Luke 3:16 “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

There are various interpretations of this passage of Scripture.

1. Baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire is simply a synonym for conversion either with or apart from water baptism. In other words, some refer this form of “Spirit baptism” is effected the moment a person trusts in Christ. I particularly do not ascribe to this interpretation because “baptizing” is clearly a reference to water baptism, as it has a human administrator — “Spirit baptism” does not.

2. Pentecostal-Charismatic interpretation. This would be the power to exercise the more spectacular gifts of the Spirit…. a distinct experience from conversion and water baptism. This interpretation is recent. Pentecostalism began with only a handful of students in a Bible School in Topeka, Kansas in 1900 and in Los Angelos in 1901.

3. Refers specifically to Day of Pentecost. The fire refers to the “tongues of fire” upon the twelve disciples (now called apostles) and serves as a public divine marker they have the authority from God to perform miracles, administrate christian baptism and preach in Jesus’ name. This event only occurs once in Scripture and is predicted by Jesus in Acts 1:4-5 and 1:8 as receiving “power” from the Holy Spirit to begin establishing His church….the “household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone” (Eph. 2:20). The pillar of fire demonstrates apostolic authority where as the speaking in tongue demonstrates the unleashing of the Holy Spirit and can be bestowed on any believer.

The divine marker as a human-flambeaux anointing upon the twelve was witnessed by 3,000 men from all over the known Roman world. As they went back to their home nations, they served as a sort of “John the baptist, preparing the way” for future Apostolic writings, evangelists, and deacons under the teaching of the Apostles with known authority from God.

This interpretation certainly isn’t incompatible with the text or context. However, if we use the hermenuetical rule, "The clear texts interpret the obscure texts" we use Jesus' statements in Acts 1 as the clear statements to the referring to the Day of Pentecost rather than John's statement.

4. Being baptized with fire refers Judgment. And this is where interpretation of what the baptism of the “Holy Spirit and fire” becomes difficult. In all probability there are a few levels of meaning that pertain to fire.

Specifically, judgment upon the Jewish ruling authorities who rejected John’s baptism and preaching. Both Matthew and Luke refer to this. The belief that John had the fire of judgment or wrath in view would seem to be supported by a number of contextual factors. First, the topic of eternal judgment is foundational to John’s narrative, as he prefaced his remarks by speaking of “the wrath to come” (Matthew 3:7 Luke 3:7). Additionally, not only is fire used in the definite sense of punishment immediately after John talked about being baptized with that element (Matthew 3:12; Luke 3:17), but also immediately before (Matthew 3:10; Luke 3:9). In Matthew 3:10, John said that “even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire” (Mt 3:10). In other words, those who would not repent would be destroyed by a judgment of fire. As a general rule, when a word is clearly defined by an author, and he uses the same word again within the same context, we presume that he has the same meaning in mind in both instances. It would stand to reason, then, that if the “fire” of verse 10 refers to judgment, so does the “fire” of verse 11.

5. Another interpretation would be John is referring to the giving of the Holy Spirit to believers, and of judgment of fire to unbelievers. It is also perhaps noteworthy that in both cases where the Gospel writers specifically indicated that a mixed audience was the subject of John’s message (Matthew 3:7–10; Luke 3:7–15)—that is, the “you” that he was applying his statement to—both the Spirit and fire are mentioned. But when the narrative focuses on those who were in fact submitting to John’s baptism of repentance (Mark 1:5–7), or is addressed directly to believers (Acts 1:5; 11:16), only baptism in the Holy Spirit is mentioned. In the case of Acts 1:5, it seems that if Luke had intended to make a connection between the tongues of fire at Pentecost, then he might have referenced both aspects of baptism as he had in his Gospel. There is also perhaps some ancillary support for this view in that the term fire is used in conveying the negative results prophesied in Joel 2:28-32, which Peter directly connects as having begun at Pentecost, Acts 2:16ff.

John the Baptist has two groups of people in mind: those who respond to Jesus in repentance, and those who do not. Those who respond in repentance will be gathered into the barn (saved), while those who do not repent will be burned (damned). Burned with what? Fire. In context, then, the baptism with “the Holy Spirit and fire” John spoke of was a single baptism with a double effect. Those who believe and repent would be baptized with the Spirit, whereas those who do not believe and do not repent will be baptized with fiery judgment by the God who is a consuming fire (Heb 12:29). Both are called a baptism.

This may sound quite different to us because we associate baptism with something good. However, “baptism” is also associated with negative things, such as death. In Mark 10:38-39 and Luke 12:50, Jesus spoke of His death as a baptism. So whether the baptism is good or bad depends on the context. In the context of Matthew 3, the baptism is both good and bad. It’s good for the repentant, but bad for the unrepentant. The repentant will be given the Holy Spirit while the unrepentant will be judged.

Additionally, Jesus statements seems to refer to judgment and salvation when the Pharisees rejected John’s baptism. See Luke 7:29. The Pharisees in rejecting John’s baptism was tantamount to rejecting Jesus’ preaching The people believed Jesus preaching because they were baptized by John, and the Pharisee rejected Jesus’ preaching because they rejected John’s baptism.

Additionally, see Matthew 21:31-32 and 43-44. Jesus notes the Jewish leaders who fail to respond to John’s message caused the tax collectors and prostitutes to “go before them into the kingdom”. These who follow John’s message and baptism leads on into the kingdom, while failure to believe John and his baptism hinders one from entering the Kingdom. The implication here is that believing John’s message leads one into the kingdom while failure to believe hinders him.

However as Jesus reveals in vs. 43-44, a rejection of Jesus teachings is more severe than the rejection of John’s. Because the rejection of Jesus preaching leads to the destruction of the city and causes the kingdom to bypass the Jewish leaders to another people.

Jesus' clear teaching in Mt. 21 and Luke 7 seem to indicate a dual interpretation of the one baptism of "the Holy Spirit and fire."

Gaza Attack Was First Phase of Iran's Plan to Destroy Israel, Usher in Muslim 'Messiah'

The horrific Hamas attack on Israel was only the first phase of a long-term plan by Iran to wipe out the Jewish State. Iranian leaders believe Israel must be eliminated before the return of an Islamic "messiah-like" figure known as the Mahdi.

For years, Iran has been indoctrinating its fighters throughout the Middle East in the belief that there must be an apocalyptic war that destroys both Israel and Jews around the world in order to usher in the Mahdi's return.

Islamic expert Raymond Ibrahim says, "The Mahdi basically means 'guided one,' or in the Islamic understanding, he's the 'rightly guided one.' And he takes on different guises, depending on which sect of Islam you ask, Sunni or Shia."

Islamic writings say his name will be Mohammed Ibn Abdillah.

Sunnis, the majority of the world's Muslims, believe the Mahdi has not yet been born.

Shia Islam, which Iran dominates, teaches that the Mahdi is already alive, and has been hiding for over a thousand years.

Brother Rachid, a former Muslim who hosts a Christian program for Muslims called "Daring Questions," says, "Shia Muslims, especially the 'Twelver Shia' believe he is the 12th Imam, and that he was born around 868. So, he just disappeared. He's still alive until today. His age is 1,155, if you want. So, he's still living somewhere and one day he will show himself."

Muslims in Iran believe the Mahdi is hiding in a well in the small village of Jamkaran. Pilgrims peer down the well with flashlights, leave prayer requests for the Mahdi, and hope he will reappear. Muslims believe that when the Mahdi returns, he will be accompanied by Jesus, who is referred to in Islam as the Prophet Isa, to rid the world of evil.

Iranian leaders have seized upon belief in the final battle before the Mahdi's return to motivate its military and allies to fight harder to destroy Israel.

Ibrahim says, "A lot of the Islamic schools or jihadists are being indoctrinated by Iranian propaganda into Mahdism. And again, it always centers around Israel, and attacking and destroying Israel."
Ibrahim and Brother Rachid say the doctrine of the Mahdi's return means that any attempts by Israel to make peace with the Muslim world will ultimately prove futile.

"Israel is a threat to Muslims, to the Mahdi, to the coming of the Mahdi," says Brother Rachid. "So, they have to be eliminated. There is no other solution. You cannot do peace with Israel."

Ibrahim says, "I don't think Israel could ever have a permanent peace unless Islam were to completely change itself and become 'not Islam' or be something completely different."

And Ibrahim worries that Iran might be willing to use a nuclear weapon against Israel to ensure the return of the Mahdi.

Exclusive: Recordings, emails show how Trump team flew fake elector ballots to DC in final push to overturn 2020 election

Two days before the January 6 insurrection, the Trump campaign’s plan to use fake electors to block President-elect Joe Biden from taking office faced a potentially crippling hiccup: The fake elector certificates from two critical battleground states were stuck in the mail.
So, Trump campaign operatives scrambled to fly copies of the phony certificates from Michigan and Wisconsin to the nation’s capital, relying on a haphazard chain of couriers, as well as help from two Republicans in Congress, to try to get the documents to then-Vice President Mike Pence while he presided over the Electoral College certification.
The operatives even considered chartering a jet to ensure the files reached Washington, DC, in time for the January 6, 2021, proceeding, according to emails and recordings obtained by CNN.

Eastern Orthodoxy, Theravada Buddhism and Zen. Hello!

Hello everyone,

I was baptized as a child when I was just 3 years old in a famous Orthodox church in Moscow in the 90s. My "ethnic" roots are very different, Russian, Jewish and Caucasian (Caucasus region) We moved to Western Europe when I was just 5 years old, and I am now over 30 years old. I have always been interested in religion and philosophy. I went through some philosophical writings, especially Husserl's and Heidegger's phenomenology, and could easily get into Buddhism. Where I still feel more or less at home today, I tend towards the orthodox variant of the ancient Buddhism (Theravada) but I have a fondness for Soto-Zen because of its aesthetics, simplicity and poetic charisma and the approach for silent meditation. The same applies to Chinese Chan, which is where Zen comes from, but Theravada is more the place where everything became clear for me - I meditate daily and am now very familiar with the Pali Canon, which is a kind of holy scripture for orthodox Buddhists,
you could possibly compare it to the Bible, but not really. It is much larger and more extensive and is not considered the word of a god. But the words of a Buddha (an awakened person who has completely seen through being-time / reality)

Well, why am I here, you ask? I am tormented by a question: How can something have come into being out of nothing? Or to put it better: Why is something and rather nothing? Or even better expressed by Wittgenstein: The mystical is not how the world is, but that it is.

Buddhism responds to this phenomenologically: the whole world is already contained in this "body", the beginning and the end of this world. I won't go into this any further as it becomes too complex.

BUT, I'm somehow dissatisfied with the answer that comes from Buddhism.

After some research, I find orthodoxy the most interesting for me and that's where my roots are. I have a lot of questions that I would like to ask the people here from the bottom of my heart and finally decide for myself to go deeper into Christianity or to turn my back on it for ever.

Thank you.
Basilius

Maine’s top election official removes Trump from 2024 ballot

"I am mindful that [this is unprecedented]. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection.”

The decision makes Maine the second state to disqualify Trump from office, after the Colorado Supreme Court handed down its own stunning ruling that removed him from the ballot earlier this month.

A bipartisan group of former state lawmakers filed the challenge against Trump.

[The decision can be appealed in court.]

Biden is failing us on migration says Democrat mayor of New York as he bans refugee buses

“We cannot continue to do the federal government’s job,” Mr Adams said at a joint press conference.

“The federal government said to New York City: ‘We’re not going to do our job – you do our job. You take care of 4,000 people a week, Eric, you and your team,’” he added.
As has been pointed out, Kamala took all of those trips searching for the root causes of the immigration disaster. All she had to do was open her door and walk down the hallway to the Oval Office.

Courage When Rebuked and Silenced

As Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God. (Luke 18:35-43 ESV)

Have you ever been silenced and/or rebuked for seeking the Lord Jesus with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength? For seeking after his grace and mercy? For pursuing his love and kindness? For going after his truth and righteousness? For desiring his healing touch upon your life? And by the people in the front? By elders and deacons and pastors of what are called “churches”? This is how I relate this story to my life. Do you identify?

My husband and I had just had a conversation on that topic and then I read this passage of Scripture and immediately I saw how it related to my life and experiences. And I assume that others, like me, have encountered some of the same types of situations which may have discouraged them, but which may not have discouraged them. For they may have continued to pursue the Lord, his truth, and his will for their lives despite those who silenced them.

For we live in a day and age when “the church” at large is very worldly and is following the teachings of man often times over the teachings of the Scriptures taught in full context. Many of them have been trained in following after other men and their marketing schemes for how to grow their “churches” numerically by altering the character of God and of the church and of his gospel to make them more appealing and acceptable to flesh.

So, if you are a seeker of truth and righteousness, who desire the Lord, who want to obey him, who want his healing touch upon your life, you may find yourself in conflict with the marketing schemes and manipulations and tricks that are being used today to “draw in large crowds of people from the world.” And you may find yourself like a fish going against the flow, in the “rare” category, and seemingly all alone on many biblical issues.

And so you may also find yourself being silenced and rebuked for seeking after the Lord and his truth and his righteousness, in earnest, because you do not fit with their marketing schemes for how to “grow their churches.” But I just love the courage of this blind man. He did not let the people “in the front” intimidate him into giving up and running away. He stood his ground and he cried all the more for the Lord to have mercy on him. Love it!!

This is the kind of courage and determination we should all have if we are earnestly seeking the Lord and his touch upon our lives. We should not let the treatment we receive from others and their opinions and their perceptions and beliefs and practices, which they might try to force upon us, hinder our walks of faith. We should not let their abuse, their false judgments, their criticisms, and their hushing of our voices stop us from honoring Jesus with our lives. I admire this man’s determination!

For, you see, this isn’t just a story about Jesus healing a blind man. This story is about a man who was seeking Jesus Christ and his touch upon his life and the opposition that he faced from those “out in front” who wanted to keep him from that relationship with Jesus Christ, who wanted to keep him from being healed, who wanted to put a damper on his faith, to squelch it, to silence him. And this is a story of his courage and determination to keep pursuing the Lord despite those who were trying to silence him.

And because he didn’t give up. And because he would not be silenced. And because of his faith and his courage and his determination to keep calling out to Jesus, Jesus listened to him, and he healed him. Praise the Lord! So we can’t let other people, no matter who they are, determine our destiny for us. We can’t just shut up because they say we must. We must keep speaking the truth, and we must keep calling out to Jesus, and calling for him to heal broken lives and marriages and families, and not give up hope.

We need to keep believing the Lord Jesus for miracles despite what other people do or say. We need to keep believing the Lord in all things and in all situations and even in all the persecutions and opposition that we face along the way. Even in those dark valleys, we need to keep believing the Lord and calling out to him and pursuing him, even when things seem hopeless, and even when we are silenced and rebuked because of our faith in the Lord, and for our earnestness in seeking his face and his truth and righteousness.

For God is not limited by what men do. They have no power over him. So don’t let other people determine your life situation for you. Don’t let them determine for you who you are and who you are to become. Yes, other people can have a certain amount of control over us, depending upon where we live and what those circumstances are, but they can’t determine what is in our hearts and who we are and who we become, by the grace of God. So, we must not let them have that kind of power over us. Love this man’s faith!

Mary, Did You Know?

Songwriters: Greene Lee Rufus / Lowry Mark Alan

Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy
Has come to make you new?
This child that you delivered, will soon deliver you

The blind will see, the deaf will hear
The dead will live again
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb

Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your baby boy
Would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy
Is heaven's perfect Lamb?
That sleeping child you're
Holding is the great, I Am

Nikki Haley seeks to clarify cause of Civil War comments as backlash mounts

Nikki Haley on Thursday sought to clarify her comments about the Civil War one day after a voter in New Hampshire called her out for not mentioning slavery as a cause of the war.

“I mean, of course the Civil War was about slavery,” Haley told radio host Jack Heath Thursday morning.

[What a difference a day makes!]

Her comments come amid intense backlash inside and outside the GOP after Haley told a New Hampshire town hall crowd that the Civil War was about government interfering in people’s freedoms.

“I mean, I think the cause of the Civil War was basically how government was going to run. The freedoms and what people could and couldn’t do,” Haley had said

“I think it always comes down to the role of government and what the rights of the people are,” Haley added. “I will always stand by the fact that I think government was intended to secure the rights and freedoms of the people. It was never meant to be all things to all people,” she added.

The voter criticized her for not mentioning slavery in her answer.

[Later, the voter, speaking to reporters] said a video of Haley being asked “essentially” the same question when she was running for governor of South Carolina had prompted him to ask it again now that she’s running for president.

“The answer that she gave was very similar to the answer that she gave tonight,” he said
