  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I Sing of His Mercy

“In him we have redemption” (salvation; deliverance from sin) “through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us” (Eph. 1:7-8a). “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more” (Heb. 8:12). “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 Jn. 1:9). “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out” (Ac. 3:19).

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:15-16). “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one” (2 Thess. 3:3).

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16). “…be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph. 5:18b-20).

I Sing of His Mercy

An Original Work / April 10, 2014
Based off Psalm 32

Blessed are those whose sins are forgiven
By the blood of Jesus Christ.
Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does
Not count against them; freedom found.
When, in silence, I did not confess
My sin to You; had no strength.
Then I owned up to my sin and
You forgave and cleansed me within.

Therefore let the godly pray to You;
Draw near to You; grace they’ll find.
They will not be o’ertaken by afflictions,
But in Christ peace abounds.
Lord, You are my hiding place.
I find my refuge in You secure.
You protect me from all evil.
You give songs of vict’ry in You.

Lord, You teach me to walk in Your ways;
Counsel me in love, I know.
Help me to not be stubborn and
Unwilling to follow in Your truth.
Thank You for Your love and mercy.
I put my trust in You always.
I rejoice in my Lord and
I sing of Him throughout all my days.

No tangible enemies

Heavenly Father may the people of God have no tangible enemies. May Lucifer and all unclean spirits have no power against God's own children. For the adversary has been disarmed. (Colossians 2:15) May we all no longer be a target. May all schemes be deleted, shut down, discarded, ruined. Thank You Jesus Amen.

The One Who Has Faith in Jesus Christ

“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans 3:21-26 ESV)

I believe that the subject of “law and grace” is one of the most difficult and complicated subjects in the New Testament Scriptures, and one of the most widely misinterpreted and abused and misused of all the Scriptures, too, especially for all of us who did not grow up as Jews during the time period prior to Jesus’ death on that cross and his resurrection from the dead when he did away with the Old Covenant liturgical, ceremonial, sacrificial, purification and dietary laws, including the requirement for circumcision.

For many people today, possibly the majority here in America, are interpreting these verses to say that we are no longer under any law, and therefore we do not have to submit to Christ as Lord, and we do not have to repent of (turn away from) our sins, and that we do not have to obey God at all. And if we read these verses out of the context of the whole of the teachings in the book of Romans, I can see where people might come to that conclusion, which is why context is critical to correct biblical understanding.

But if we read the whole of the book of Romans, and the whole of the teachings in the New Testament, that should dispel that notion. For we will learn that faith in Jesus Christ = obedience to his commands under the New Covenant, which are primarily his moral laws which never went away. And we will learn that if we do not obey our Lord’s commandments (New Covenant) that we do not have salvation from sin, we don’t know God, and we do not have eternal life with God, regardless of what we profess.

So when this teaches salvation by faith in Jesus Christ, that faith is not lawless. We just aren’t under the Old Covenant liturgical laws that the Jews of old had to obey. For this faith comes from God, it is not of our own doing, it is perfected by Christ, it is gifted to us by God, and it is persuaded of God to do the will of God for our lives. But we are not saved by doing a list of ceremonial laws and works that have nothing to do with our salvation from sin. Yet our salvation is not absent of works, for we still have to obey God.

[Hebrews 12:1-2; Ephesians 2:8-10; John 1:12-13; John 6:44; Titus 2:14]

For what is the righteousness of God? It is divine approval, the approval of God, and it is what is deemed right by the Lord, i.e. what is approved in his eyes. And all throughout the New Testament we learn that what God approves is us surrendered to him to do his will, doing what he commands us to do, dying to sin daily, and walking in obedience to his commands in holy living and no longer in sinful rebellion against the Lord. And if we hold on to sin and we don’t obey him, we do not have eternal life in him.

And what is God’s grace? His grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce (say “No!” to) ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for our Lord’s return. For Jesus Christ “gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works,” “which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Titus 2:11-14; Ephesians 2:10; cf. Romans 2:6-8; Philippians 2:12-13).

And what is redemption? It has to do with God buying us back from our lives of slavery to sin and winning us back to him and to his righteousness and holiness. It involves us being rescued from what enslaved us so that we can now live for our Lord and honor him with our lives. It is about deliverance from our old lives of living in sin so that we can now live holy lives, pleasing to God. And to be reconciled to God means that we change from living in sin and for self to now following our Lord in obedience to his commands.

And what was the gospel that Jesus taught? He said that if anyone would come after him, he must deny self, take up his cross daily (die daily to sin and to self) and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to our old lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose them for eternity. But if for Jesus’ sake we deny self, die daily to sin, and follow him in obedience to his commands, then we have the hope of eternal life with God. But if we deny him with our lives then when he returns he will deny us (see Luke 9:23-26).

So, we are not under the Old Covenant liturgical and ceremonial laws. We do not have to obey them as the Jews of old had to. But faith in Jesus Christ is obedience to him and to his commands under the New Covenant, and it is walking in holiness and in righteousness, and it is dying daily to sin and living for the Lord in doing whatever it is that he commands us to do. For by faith we die to our old lives of living in sin so that we now walk by faith in obedience to our Lord in holy living, which is pleasing to God.

Sins now and always.”

Exceedingly Abundantly Above All We Can Ask or Think

I can ask and think some pretty big things. He can do exceedingly abundantly above all that!

Ephesians 3:20-21 KJV
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

1 John 5:14-15 KJV
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Much of Prayer and faith is just daring to do it!

Mark 9:23 KJV
23. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Mark 11:23 KJV
23. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Mark 11:24 ISV
24. That is why I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.

Matthew 7:7-8 KJV
7. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

John 14:12-14 KJV
12. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 15:7-8 KJV
7.If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Mark 11:24 KJV
24. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Luke 1:37 KJV
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Mark 10:27 KJV
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

Matthew 17:20 KJV
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Mark 11:24 RV
24 Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye have received them, and ye shall have them.

Matthew 18:19 RV
19 Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 21:22 RV
22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

John 16:23-24 RV
23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, If ye shall ask anything of the Father, he will give it you in my name.
24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be fulfilled.

1 John 3:22 RV
22 and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.

Prayer to be myself

I had a conversation with a coworker about how my voice sounds at work an t honestly rubbed me the wrong way. I've been told that my customer service voice sounds like a Disney princess but honestly i take it as an insult. The more irritated i actually am the more try to hide it and thus sound fake or as a man the other day said" anyone ever tell you you have the voice of a child?" I feel like the more i try to be a better person it just explodes in my face and i end up looking or feeling ridiculous. I've been really depressed lately and anxious but I'm constantly surrounded by non Christians so i feel like i have to hide it but then they think I'm cheerful as can be and that makes me more depressed. Anyone can relate? Please pray for me.

China & Russia Collusion

WASHINGTON (AP) — China has surged sales to Russia of machine tools, microelectronics and other technology that Moscow in turn is using to produce missiles, tanks, aircraft and other weaponry for use in its war against Ukraine, according to a U.S. assessment.

Two senior Biden administration officials, who discussed the sensitive findings Friday on the condition of anonymity, said that in 2023 about 90% of Russia’s microelectronics came from China, which Russia has used to make missiles, tanks and aircraft. Nearly 70% of Russia’s approximately $900 million in machine tool imports in the last quarter of 2023 came from China.

Chinese and Russian entities have also been working to jointly produce unmanned aerial vehicles inside Russia, and Chinese companies are likely providing Russia with nitrocellulose used in the manufacture of ammunition, the officials said. China-based companies Wuhan Global Sensor Technology Co., Wuhan Tongsheng Technology Co. Ltd. and Hikvision are providing optical components for use in Russian tanks and armored vehicles.

The officials said Russia has received military optics for use in tanks and armored vehicles manufactured by Chinese firms iRay Technology and North China Research Institute of Electro-Optics, and China has been providing Russia with UAV engines and turbojet engines for cruise missiles

Russia’s semiconductor imports from China jumped from $200 million in 2021 to over $500 million in 2022, according to Russian customs data analyzed by the Free Russia Foundation, a group that advocates for civil society development.

Beijing is also working with Russia to improve its satellite and other space-based capabilities for use in Ukraine, a development the officials say could in the longer term increase the threat Russia poses across Europe. The officials, citing downgraded intelligence findings, said the U.S. has also determined that China is providing imagery to Russia for its war on Ukraine.

The officials discussed the findings as Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to travel to China this month for talks. Blinken is scheduled to travel next week to the Group of 7 foreign ministers meeting in Capri, Italy, where he’s expected to raise concerns about China’s growing indirect support for Russia as Moscow revamps its military and looks to consolidate recent gains in Ukraine.

President Joe Biden has previously raised his concerns directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping about Beijing indirectly supporting Russia’s war effort.

While China has not provided direct lethal military support for Russia, it has backed it diplomatically in blaming the West for provoking Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to launch the war and refrained from calling it an invasion in deference to the Kremlin.

China has repeatedly said it isn’t providing Russia with arms or military assistance, although it has maintained robust economic connections with Moscow, alongside India and other countries, amid sanctions from Washington and its allies.

Technology and Language: AI Translation vs. Google Translate

Hello folks. Digital technology has been improving over the past few decades, and with the recent advances in AI, new use cases for computers have been unlocked. For ages, the go-to app to translating languages was Google Translate, and you needed an internet connection to use it. Nowadays, some AI can be run offline for free. On March 22, 2024, I installed an free and private AI known as Mistral 7B, where the "7B" refers to 7 billion parameters and takes up 4 GB of space on my laptop. It has the capability of translating stuff into French, German and Spanish, albeit not perfectly.

This is a demo showcasing the translation capabilites of artificial intelligence, using the first two sentences of the vacuum cleaner article on Wikipedia.

English passage: "A vacuum cleaner is a device that uses suction in order to remove dirt and other substances from floors, upholstery, draperies, and other surfaces. It is generally electrically driven."

First, Google Translate.

Then, the AI installed on my laptop.

I am not German, so I can not comment on the accuracy of these two translations, but if anyone is German here on CF such as @Nithavela , feel free to compare the two. Which wins? A private AI that does not connect to a server, or Google Translate?

Need prayer…

My sister just contacted me asking me to plead the Blood of Jesus over the whole family. She said God has been revealing things to her all day but she is not allowed to discuss it. She seemed manic and asked me not to probe. So I’m afraid she is having another episode again. Please pray for her and the family for whatever this is. Thank you!

Contemplating death...

Hi Folks,

As we age we consider end of life matters more seriously.

Recently I have come to understand a foundational truth that helps to put death into perspective.

I have come to realise that when God created man He designed them to be fit for purpose - and that purpose was to be eternally in fellowship with Him in heaven.

We see a hint of this in Ecclesiastes "He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, without the possibility that mankind will find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end."

So all mankind has 'living in eternity' built in and this is the intended outcome.

However Satan fell before the temptation in the Garden and hated the eternal purpose and status given to mankind and so waged war against God's purpose.

So loss of conscious awareness will not cease at death for two reasons. First because it is inbuilt in man for consciousness to continue, second how can we have a crowd of witnesses that are all asleep.

So the fear of death is a lie which all unbelievers are under.

Death itself is just transition, not to be feared.

Sadly many believers struggle with this.

Maybe if helps to understand that we are designed for eternal survival.

However when our creative Father saw the fall would happen, implemented a plan for our rescue by sending Jesus to reverse the consequences of the fall for those who believe.

As to the issue of 'soul sleep' it is a non issue if we realise that eternity is independent of time as we know it, so the witnesses consciously watch from the eternal realm.

Back in chronology, all will be resurrected to judgement when our earthly body substance will be transfigured to our new eternal bodies.

We were told not to fear the one who wants to destroy our bodies, his power does not extend to destroying our souls.

So take heart - He always wanted a people in eternal fellowship with Him - believe and you will be there with Him in a flash.

You were designed for it.

Native speakers of Yiddish here or Yiddish learners interested in exchange about the language?

Hi folks,
I have started learning Yiddish on Duolingo about a month ago. It is a really fun language. Sounds cute sometimes. When I finally had managed to read all Hebrew Letters correctly, I was so impressed , how easy understandable in reading and writing this language is for me being a native speaker of German in Austria. Most impressed was I because of severel words that are said today almost the same way in dialects in parts of Austria, like עפּעס or אונדזער . Both words are almost the same in my own dialect èppas inser.
Since the new Netflix mini series Unorthodox, Yiddish came more into focus recently. I didn't start learning the language because of the series however. Planning to watch it though soon.
So all in all, I thought there might be some other guys here with whom I can try chatting in Yiddish or simply talking about learning the language. And your experiences with it.
Yours
Timothi

My Transgender Challenge

Is transgenderism a product of cause-and-effect?

If so, I'd like to see how science justifies this sinful practice -- (assuming they do).

And if it hasn't been justified yet, what exactly are scientists looking into that would cause this to happen?

Can a person become a transgender against his will?

On the other hand, if not, then what does academia attribute this to?

NPR Whistleblower Explains How NPR Became Propaganda

Great read...and likely a similar story as many "left-leaning" but otherwise formerly reputable news organizations.

I used to consider NPR a rather reliable source before they took a nosedive in the shallow end of the pool. Here's my favorite excerpts...

Is America, as progressive activists claim, beset by systemic racism in the 2020s—in law enforcement, education, housing, and elsewhere? We happen to have a very powerful tool for answering such questions: journalism. Journalism that lets evidence lead the way.
But the message from the top was very different. America’s infestation with systemic racism was declared loud and clear: it was a given. Our mission was to change it.

....

Race and identity became paramount in nearly every aspect of the workplace. Journalists were required to ask everyone we interviewed their race, gender, and ethnicity (among other questions), and had to enter it in a [COLOR=var(--color-accent)]centralized tracking
https://www.poynter.org/reporting-e...s-npr-to-track-source-diversity-in-real-time/ system. We were given unconscious bias training sessions. A growing DEI staff offered regular meetings imploring us to “start talking about race.” Monthly dialogues were offered for “women of color” and “men of color.” Nonbinary people of color were included, too. Yet Again, At Planet Fitness...

Man uses liberals to sexually harass women...

No seriously, that thing that basically all conservatives said would happen when liberals passed laws to allow men into women's only spaces like restrooms and locker rooms and showers....keeps happening in these establishments that have allowed men into women's spaces.

"It’s a man, but he says he identifies as a woman, and he won’t leave the restroom," the 911 caller told an emergency dispatcher. "But he is just walking around showing us his — and he won’t leave."

I recall posters saying this wouldn't be a problem because "what kind of man is going to claim to be a woman just to use the women's restroom?" Fortunately, there's a picture of the deviant for those who posted such things in the past.

I know that some people here will doubt it....but I've even seen posters suggest this is the problem of the old lady who called 911 and the 17yo girl who felt "uncomfortable" with this man in the women's locker room. Before anyone suggests that this man isn't supposed to be in the women's locker room....note that he did say the magic words "I identify as a woman" so according to policy, both of Planet Fitness and this administration, he should be able to use the women's locker room.

OJ Simpson dead

Im not proud to say it, but for some reason I remember where I was when the "Bronco chase" was broadcast.

What a horrible case. And man. I totally think he did it. But also I understand how there was room for reasonable doubt in a black jurors mind given demonstrated racist behavior of some of the investigating cops as well as well known examples of evidence planting in certain LA neighborhoods.

He was a pretty good footballer, I will admit.

New Study Shows Puberty Blockers May Cause Permanent Harm

Who would have thought that blocking the natural development of children would have significant lifelong consequences?

That study, and Professor Grossman's comments, bring into question the 'reversibility' of puberty blockers — a key claim of the trans campaigners who promote the drugs and say they 'pause' puberty and buy time for trans kids to make decisions about their gender.

I have to wonder if parents are ever told that these drugs are completely experimental and have never been used to treat "gender dysphoria"....and now they know, that long term use can sterilize children. Remarkable.

WPATH recommended this stuff...and that's why trans activists shouldn't be devising their own treatments.

Thoughts?

Edit-this study has yet to be peer reviewed.

When we should say "clearly this is true"

A little study to help determine how we should take care in declaring, "clearly this is true." ;)
I found it interesting, having spent a little time studying philosophy, looking at what the Bible says is "certain." A lot of philosophy consists of trying to figure out what we can be certain of. Philosophy considers important things like sensory experience, or things in the world relative to our sensory organs, along with our subjective experience.

I found the following passage interesting, in this regard, because it talks about things man kind can universally find certain, even though there remain unbelievers. Strikingly, Paul finds no contradiction in a certainty in "seeing" the *invisible God!* In other words, subjective experience is virtually as certain as what our senses perceive!...

Rom 1.20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen/non-turbid [kathoratai], being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

So we can "clearly see" what is invisible about God! ;) We should not be afraid to declare things of faith even though they are unseen.

We see this clarity also in the river of the water of life in the New Jerusalem...

Rev 22.1 Then the angel showed me the (pure/non-turbid) [katharos] river of the water of life, as clear/splendid (lampron) as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

The following passages indicate things are made clear as a logical deduction based on appearances (deelos). We should not be afraid of making *logical deductions.*

1 Cor 15.27 For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear (manifestly evident) [deelos] that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.

Gal 3.11 Clearly (logically) [deelos] no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.”

2 Tim 3.9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear (apparent) [ekdeelos] to everyone.

Heb 7.14 For it is clear (obvious) [prodeelon] that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

Heb 7.15 And what we have said is even more clear (apparent) [katadeelon] if another priest like Melchizedek appears.

2 Pet 1.14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear (made apparent) [edeelosen] to me.

The following passages indicate that things are clear as a demonstrative manifestation. We should try to make something obviously true, as well as logical.

2 Cor 11.6 I may indeed be untrained as a speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear (manifestly evident) [phanero] to you in every way.

Col 4.4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly (self-evidently manifest) [phanero], as I should.

Phil 1.13 As a result, it has become clear (self-evidently manifest) [phaneros] throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.

Another form of making clear is something previously documented. We should be ready to back things up with Scriptures.

Gal 3.1 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed (previously documented) [proegraphe] as crucified.

Another form of making clear is something revealed. We should recognize that clarity requires divine revelation.

Phil 3.15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear (reveal) [apokalupsei] to you.

Another form of making clear is verbally asserting or declaring. We should recognize that words can have power to make clear.

1 Tim 4.1 The Spirit clearly says (in words) [retos] that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

Another form of making clear is explaining or interpreting. Making clear can be a studied exercise.

Heb 5.11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear (difficult to explain or interpret) [dysermeneutos} to you because you no longer try to understand.

Another form of making clear is to point out or visually show. Visuals are important to prove some things.

Heb 6.17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear (visually show/physically prove) [epideixai] to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.

Another form of making clear is via the symbolic use of a sea of glass with crystal transparency, as well as to the New Jerusalem, with a splendid/non-turbid river. The Bible uses symbols to show the importance of purity in clarifying things.

Rev 4.6 Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal [krystalio]. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back.

Rev 21.11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal [krystallizonti].

Here, the crystal is connected to its splendid clarity.

Rev 22.1 Then the angel showed me the (pure/non-turbid) [katharos] river of the water of life, as clear/splendid (lampron) as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

If this helps nobody else, it helped me! :) I'm not well-acquainted with Greek, but even the novice can make certain deductions from the manifold internet resources!

EO view of doctrinal development?

Glory to Jesus Christ!

I have a question for my EO brethern: How do the EO view the concept of doctrinal development?

Do you consider this a valid category for talking about the history of dogma? Is it commonly appealed to in theological discussions? If not - is there a particular objection you have to it?

On the Christian Perception of Our Shared Reality

(I'll see if this passes the site's basic filtering guidelines.
I am concerned about what Christians perceive as our shared reality, lying, and the moral-ethical
effects of embracing conspiracy theories.)

When Trump demands that all who get his political support, must uphold his lie that the 2020 election was stolen with massive fraud (despite Trump's inability to find any substantive evidence for this), you MAY think that this is merely a perverse pagan aspect of American politics. OR, merely an artifact that non-Christian Americans hold who have no idea what reality is, or how to demonstrate that a personal opinion/belief is actually TRUE.

BUT,
given that many Trump supporters have swallowed huge conspiracy theories (some of them believed by ridiculous and twisted and oppressive groups through history), American Christians must come to a different conclusion.

American (and worldwide) Christians must conclude:

1 there is a shared reality
2 misrepresenting this shared reality, is what the Bible calls "LYING"
3 in Judaism and Christianity, LYING is a serious sin, and no continual liar will enter the kingdom of God
4 This means that Christians have a moral-ethical OUGHT to be very careful about what they call "reality", and have a moral-ethical OUGHT to carefully demonstrate that a proposition/opinion/belief is TRUE (according to evidence from our shared reality), before declaring it as a fact.

Donald Trump, despite his massive financial resources, has been unable to find ANY credible evidence that the 2020 election was stolen by massive fraud. His dozens of lawsuits trying to establish this assertion, have been rejected by judges as not containing ANY substantive and relevant evidence for Trump's claim.
---------- ----------

An average non-Christian American, who may not feel any moral-ethical OUGHT to carefully search out which opinions/belief/gossip are TRUE, and which are FALSE, may respond with a dismissing "So what?"

BUT, for Christians, this topic of embracing conspiracy theories, without carefully researching what is TRUE, is a matter of embracing continual lying, or rejecting patent systems of lies. This choice involves their future, after the final judgment, for ever.

The anti-intellectual Protestant Fundamentalists hardened their rejection of the intellect, and formal logic, during the European Enlightenment, and the emergence of modern science (100 years before Darwin lived). They rejected the goodness of the intellect, as a theological "slogan".

The embrace of conspiracy theories by many anti-intellectual Christians, underlines how a terribly dysfunctional theological trend, can lead to views of our shared reality, that have taken complete leave of our shared reality.

Anti-intellectual non-Christians, also fall into the same epistemological pit. The anti-intellectual blind, are trying to lead the anti-intellectual blind.

I am trying to point out that THIS IS NOT A SIDE ISSUE, THAT DEALS WITH MERELY PERSONAL PREFERENCES. Anti-intellectual Americans, who are not Christians, but who embrace conspiracy theories, suffer the same crippling effects as many of Trump's religious supporters.

Continual lying -- misrepresenting our shared reality -- will get us condemned at the final judgment. As the Bible presents to us, "There will be no liars in the kingdom of heaven."

This is not a simple case of political preferences, or personal opinions. Donald Trump is claiming an alternate reality, for which he has no evidence.

Christians have a moral-ethical OUGHT, NOT to embrace that other fantasy reality.

Taking Up Our Cross Daily

“And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.’” (Luke 9:23-26 ESV)

This is the gospel of salvation that Jesus Christ and his NT apostles taught. But it is not what is commonly being taught today, at least not here in America. For this message has now largely been altered or not even referred to at all. For it has largely been obliterated and replaced with a message intended to tickle itching ears and to not offend the ungodly, and to be friendlier and more acceptable to the world and to human flesh. And this is deliberate, this demise of the truth in order to now replace truth with lies.

And this has been orchestrated at high levels, because this is what is being passed down from those in high up positions to those beneath them who are then passing a “new gospel” and the destruction of the old gospel down to their people. And this is widespread across the USA, and perhaps in other nations, as well. For this isn’t just about replacing the old gospel with a new gospel, but it is definitely about destroying the gospel that Jesus taught and that the NT apostles taught so that they can replace it with something new.

And since I am a teacher of the truth of what Jesus taught, as best as I understand it, by the grace of God, I do get opposed on a somewhat consistent basis when I teach what Jesus taught and what his NT apostles taught in contrast to what so many are teaching and are accepting today as “the gospel,” but which is just a replacement for the old gospel. For so many today are not teaching that we must deny self, die to sin daily, and walk in obedience to our Lord or that we will not inherit eternal life with God.

Even if they do teach true repentance (turning from sin) and obedience to our Lord, the way those are often being taught today are in a way in which they make them more optional, i.e. recommended, but not required for salvation from sin, and not required for eternal life with God. And others teach that we do not have to turn away from our sins and that we do not have to obey our Lord’s commands, for they call that “works salvation.” They say all that is required is “faith,” which is not usually biblically defined.

Therefore, the “new gospel” which is replacing the “old gospel” does not require biblical repentance (death to sin) nor walks of obedience to our Lord and to his commands, as required by God for salvation from sin and for eternal life with God. They do not require that we forsake our former lives of living in sin and that sin no longer be our practice. For they teach God’s grace as merely forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life with God based on a mere profession of faith in Jesus Christ once in our lives.

But Jesus Christ said that if anyone would come after him that he must deny himself, not continue to live for self and in sin. And he said that we are to take up our cross daily. And when Jesus took up his cross it was to put our sins to death with him. So if we take up our cross daily it means that daily we are putting our sins to death with Christ, that we are dying daily to sin and to self so that we can now live for God and for his righteousness, in the power, strength, and wisdom of God, by the grace of God.

And then we are to follow Jesus Christ in obedience and in surrender of our lives and our wills over to the will of God for our lives. As his followers, our lives no longer belong to ourselves, but they belong to God, and he is now to be Lord (Owner-Master) of our lives, and we are to serve him with our lives in doing whatever it is that he has called us to do. For we are now his possession and we no longer have mastery over our own lives. He is now Lord of our lives and he is to be the one directing our lives, not us.

But if we should choose to ignore his teachings and to go our own way, instead, and so we choose to hold on to (to save) our old lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if for his sake we deny self, die daily to sin, and we follow him in obedience to his commands in holy living – all in his power, strength, and wisdom, by the grace of God – then we will not lose our lives for eternity but we will have eternal life with God. For what does it profit to gain the world but to lose or forfeit oneself?

Then, lastly, Jesus stated (in these verses) that if we are ashamed of him and of his words, that he will be ashamed of us when he returns to judge and to take his faithful ones to be with him for eternity. For, even though many make verbal professions of faith in Jesus Christ, not many truly know God/Christ as Lord and as Savior of their lives, for they do not obey him. And so they will hear him say, “I never knew you. Depart from me you workers of lawlessness.” (Matthew 7:21-23; cf. 1 John 2:3-6)

For Our Nation

An Original Work / September 11, 2012

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.

Spurgeon Didn't Know?

In his message "Trembling at the Word of the Lord", CH Spurgeon says,

"There is a song the Jubilee Singers used to sing, which begins, “Swing low, sweet chariot.” I am sure I do not know what the singers mean by the expression; and so I give it a meaning of my own, and say that I am right glad when a promise swings so low that I can get into it. Surely a promise from God is a chariot lined with love, drawn upward by winged steeds, which bear our hearts aloft; and it is a mercy when it swings as low as this text: “To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”

Note he says " I am sure I do not know what the singers mean by the expression." He then proceeds to give it a meaning of his own, which is good, but not what I've always thought the song to mean.

I note others give it spiritual meaning as Spurgeon,

"Jones describes Swing Low as a signal song: “On one level it’s about people hoping they can escape their misery by riding on this imaginary chariot to heaven, but another clear meaning is the idea that the chariot is a metaphor for escaping to freedom."

Another says this:

"Willis, who worked near the Red River, may have been reminded of the Jordan River and the death of the Prophet Elijah. The lyrics “Swing low, sweet chariot, coming for to carry me home” are reminiscent of Elijah in 2 Kings being taken to heaven in a chariot."

I don't know about the death of Elijah, but that's the meaning I always figured. It's possibly more symbolic of the rapture hoped for.
And there were the African American origins, which some think had a hidden meaning about being freed from the oppressor:

The double meanings encoded in “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” are believed to be the Jordan River as representative of the first step to freedom from slavery, “home” as Africa, and Jesus as anyone who helps bring the enslaved to freedom

"Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" is a traditional African American spiritual song that originated during the period of slavery in the United States. It is believed to have been created by Wallace Willis, a Choctaw freedman who lived in the Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma) in the mid-19th century
The song is attributed to Wallace Willis, a slave from Oklahoma; his inspiration was the land beyond the Ohio River.

(Of Course Spurgeon didn't have internet!)
