Indeed there are great problems with hunger and clean water and equitable access to healthcare. And global climate change is yet another great problem.
We need to compassionately deal with all these issues to the best of our ability.
Here in the U.S., the richest nation in the history of the planet there's about 10% of our population that don't have healthcare coverage and many many more will suffer bankruptcy due to a poorly-timed illness, yet our government has battled this concept for nearly a century of improving access to healthcare.
Anthropogenic Global Climate change is of incredible importance and will only exacerbate any of the other problems. Again, in the U.S. our plant hardiness zones are moving. We are among the richest nations on earth in part because we are a net food exporter and we enjoy a large food producing area. But that can all change.
There are many issues we need to deal with both locally and globally. As Americans we should be ashamed of ourselves for being only 5% of the worlds population but using about 25% of the oil produced. We drive obscenely large vehicles and we often act "entitled" and irresponsible.
If there ever was a time when "from those to whom much is given, much will be required", it's us...now. We need to lead the world.
We already do a great amount of humanitarian work all around the world. We are a great country, but we are not saints. And global climate change is one area we can start acting better in too.
So, yes, let's get cracking on all those topics! If anyone can do it, WE can.
