Defeated dad.
No, but I'd say if all the ice and snow on this planet melted today, the ocean level would be lower tomorrow.
Just an uneducated guess.
You guessed wrong.

Well, like I said, I'm surprised we're still here.
If just one of these doomsday scientists would have been correct, we'd be gone now.
What makes Y2K any different than Helter Skelter?
So NASA is misinforming people too? I saw a talk by an astronaut who's been up into space many times, and she said that she's seen the ice shelfs falling into the ocean. They've been monitoring it for some time now. What makes you qualified to claim she's just lying to somehow make environmental companies rich or something? That's just silly.
East Antarctica is four times the size of west Antarctica and parts of it are cooling. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research report prepared for last week's meeting of Antarctic Treaty nations in Washington noted the South Pole had shown "significant cooling in recent decades."

None actually --- the media was all over it and would have buried any scientist who started that rumor. How many scientists did you hear proclaim doom and gloom for Y2K?
That makes no sense at all! If you have a cup filled to the brim with water, and an ice cube sitting on top of it held up by a knife or something, and the ice melts, it's going to drip into the cup and cause it to overflow!!!! The ice shelfs are held up by land and if they melt or fall in, they'll only add to the water in the ocean. No, but I'd say if all the ice and snow on this planet melted today, the ocean level would be lower tomorrow.

Here we go again --- same logic as with the Tiktaalik in the Donovan stones argument.AV, do you have any idea how much money and man hours of labor went in to making sure Y2K would not be a disaster?
So the computer programmers went over the heads of the computer scientists?(BTW, it was the computer programers who where worried about Y2K, not scientists. Or do you just lump everything together as long as you can get your digs in?)

But icebergs melting elsewhere would be increasing the amount of space available for these ice shelfs to drip their contents. That makes no sense at all! For your analogy to be an accurate comparison, there should be more ice in the glass than ice above the glass, with both melting together.
I'm talking about all the ice melting in a very short period of time --- not over decades. The more ice that's bound on land, the lower the sea levels. This correlation has been observed throughout Earth history. Currently ice is melting and sea levels are rising.
Then your glass analogy is invalid.

Code:
the sea level is rising, the ice is melting, because of all the ice produced in the little ice age. nothing to do with man made warming.
Then why don't the doomsday scientists mention that, instead of whining about ice and snow melting? And, y'know, water expanding when heated over 4 degrees.
I'm talking about all the ice melting in a very short period of time --- not over decades.
Once again, should all the ice and snow on the planet melt today, the level of the ocean would be lower tomorrow.
In my opinion.
It's basic science.
