I gave you an explanation to think about on page 4 (post #40). Did you read it? Did you consider it? So what do you think about it?

Or was that too much text for you?

I'm guessing this post right ?

(Reposting for the OP)
Don´t you believe that God would keep you alive? Don´t you believe that the loving God you talk about would care for you, even if you didn´t eat?

You don´t need to answer: these were rethorical questions. Obviously, you don´t believe that.

You eat, because you know that you need food to live. And in the same way you need shelter and rest. So you keep a home and sleep each night.

And in exactly the same way you need an athmosphere to breathe and a planet where the climate makes it possible for you to live.

It does not matter if you believe in the rapture or not. It does not matter if the rapture comes tomorrow, in 2000 years or never. What matters is: it is not here NOW... and now you need your food and your sleep and your air.

It is your - our! - responsibility to keep this planet in the shape so that the next potential generations can do the same... and keep on believing in the rapture, if you want that.

FYI Good answer.

I don't believe in a rapture I believe that theology is misguided. I do believe that Jesus is coming back for us and that GW is a crock.

GW is just a matter of two degrees F and I think it will be going down soon because of the Sun.

44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

Fail-quote.

Destroy the ecosystem by heating the earth up, melting the polar ice-caps, altering currents and winds, speeding up the extension of deserts, knocking out the bottom of the food chain, thus making species go extinct.

But you don't have to worry. You don't believe in global warming, so I'm sure you'll be safe.
Code:

#1 to start, the above is a far cry from destroying the earth.

#2 there are more benifits than negitives from warming the earth.

#3 the ecosystem will adapt to warming, as it alays has, and always will.

#4 no i do not have to worry, and nobody has to worry, because global warming is a hoax, straight from the devil, who is the father of all lies.

Alunyel, how come when I talk to atheists they say that all atheists are agnostic? Even Richard Darwins says the same thing. He said he only uses the word atheist because it's more intimidating.

Atheism and agnosticism aren't mutually exclusive. A complete lack of evidence leads me to believe that there is no god, but I'm still open to the possibility that there is, if sufficient evidence can point towards it. That's an agnostic atheist.

My goodness, this has become quite an interesting thread since I last posted.
Sorry I've been gone so long, I've been busy with other obligations.

So, would someone kindly explain to me what's going on here? After all, we all know I'm nothing more than a silly girl... :)

The above sounds exactly like a destroyed earth.

#2 there are more benifits than negitives from warming the earth.

Oh really? Like?

#3 the ecosystem will adapt to warming, as it alays has, and always will.

If by ecosystem you mean earth, and by adapt you mean attempt to restore homeostatic balance, it will. Have you ever heard of something called the Gaia Hypothesis? The Gaia hypothesis states that the biosphere, and all of the systems, of our earth (the lithosphere, cryosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere) work together in a very intricate symbiotic relationship to keep the planet in homeostatic balance. When you tip the scales of this balance in one way or the other there are going to be repercussions.

And so the earth has many means of maintaining equilibrium. Polar switches, ice ages, forest fires, tsunamis (where water is displaced due to tectonic action,) etc. This system is not an adapting system. This system works the same way your body does. When homeostasis is disturbed by viruses, your body goes to fight off whatever is disturbing equilibrium. I don't see the earth treating a virus any differently (and humans operate on the earth like viruses at this current point in time; we grow, we destroy, and we multiply.)

Now, I'm not trying to say that the earth is going to begin a search and destroy mission against humans. I'm trying to say that the planet will restore the balance (whether with unforeseen catastrophic events or not,) so we should definitely bear the consequences of our actions in mind, given that few of them have a positive effect on our earth.

#4 no i do not have to worry, and nobody has to worry, because global warming is a hoax, straight from the devil, who is the father of all lies.

Okay... don't call it global warming then, call it climate change.

I came into this conversation late. Was it ever established that the OP was trolling via sarcasm?

1: Global warming isn't a fact "because al gore says so" ... I don't think anyone believes that.

However 2: It's undeniable that the ice caps are receding at an -alarming- rate.

3: It's turned into a political issue rather than a scientific one, which is very unfortunate. Right-siders are convinced that it's a left-wing conspiracy... and left-siders are using a moderate amount of evidence, and using it for their political gain... making it look like a conspiracy. Yes, human activity CAN have large-scale effects. No... we do not need to recycle EVERYTHING to fix the problem. We don't have to turn into a world-wide hippy commune... but we SHOULD keep the long-term effects in mind.

4: I agree that I don't think global warming will be 100% negative. God made a pretty stout li'l universe. The planet can cope with quite a few things, I'd imagine. And, after the flood, God said that he would never allow such destruction again... so, frankly, I'm not worried about it. However, it's no excuse to be wasteful and throw caution to the wind.

5: I don't have testing to prove this, and wouldn't be able to begin anything close to a meaningful test because we don't know how far global warming will go, and what secondary effects it will have... but what wouldn't surprise me at all is if the ice caps melting and temperatures rising, turned the earth into a more temporate zone. The extra warmth will increase evaporation, giving us far more cloud cover, trapping in heat and humidity. This cloud cover could likely shield us from solar radiation better anyway, and end up making the world a healthier place to live.

I don't know if anyone's ever seen Kent Hovind's videos about his theories of how the earth existed before the flood? I don't think he makes this point, however, the signs I see SEEM to be leading us to an earth restored to that setting.

Again... the above is nothing more than what I could see happening. I haven't seen any numbers to back this up, nor do I claim this to be fact or prophecy or even make sense to anyone else. Just my guess.

Not established yet.

This is why you shouldn't listen to the left or the right in this matter, nor any other scientific matters. You should always listen to the scientists, and those who's job it is to monitor these things all agree: Global warming is real, it's bad and it can no longer be fully reversed. We have to settle for limiting the effects.

Unfortunately for you believers, the rest of us can't afford to take your pet beliefs into account here. The situation is critical and we can spend time arguing about whether your God did or didn't promise something in the past, or whether a global flud ever occurred.

No, it wouldn't work like that. Increased cloud cover would shield us from very little. About 80% of the harmful rays still reaches us on cloudy days, and the increased heat would cause significant enough damage to offset the small gain. What we're looking at is a green-house effect. If you want an example of a run-away green-house effect, look at Venus. I'm not saying the earth would be exactly like Venus, but that's the direction it would take.

I don't know if anyone's ever seen Kent Hovind's videos about his theories of how the earth existed before the flood? I don't think he makes this point, however, the signs I see SEEM to be leading us to an earth restored to that setting.

Kent Hovind doesn't have theories. He has ideas, and not very thought through ones at that. He's a fraudster, and you'd do well to never trust him with anything, especially something to do with science.

Again... the above is nothing more than what I could see happening. I haven't seen any numbers to back this up, nor do I claim this to be fact or prophecy or even make sense to anyone else. Just my guess.

You don't have to guess. You can read what the scientists have come up with. If you don't trust the scientists, you can read about their methods and try to better yourself. Guessing will only make everything worse, as we fail to take appropriate measures.

You're smart :)

OF COURSE I wasn't serious :p Did you guys even look at my avatar? I LOVE nature!!! God made it so beautiful WHY would I want to destroy it? I was waiting for one of you to say "But Serenity, wouldn't you want Jesus to see how nice we've kept the earth when he comes down from heaven?" but NOBODY did. You're a bunch of sillyheads. ^_^

It actually makes me cry sometimes to think that some Christians think global warming is fake and use this kind of silliness as an excuse for it.

Sorry if I made some of you angry but I thought it was an important discussion to have.
LOVE YOU GUYS!:happyblush:

Just us ranting and raving about scientists and their Y2K mentality.

If scientists in the past would have been right --- even once --- this earth would have been destroyed a long time ago.

God has other plans for this earth, and scientists can predict otherwise until their clipboards become their tombstones --- and their predictions aren't gonna happen.

Newsflash, AV, noone said that global warming will "destroy the earth."

Well, I did. I should have known that people would deliberately misunderstand that. I did embellish on it in a later post, but I'd think AV is too busy misrepresenting me to read that.

What gets me are the ones who claim that if the ice caps melt, there'll be massive coastal flooding.

If you fill a glass that has an ice cube in it up to the rim, then let that ice cube melt --- not one drop of water will spill over the edge.

That's because water, unlike anything else, expands when it freezes, and actually takes up more space than in its liquid state.

Thus, should the ice caps melt, the ocean level would actually decrease.

(And yes, I know Antarctica is a continent, not an ice cap.)
