The apostles foreshadow the Refomation:

Acts 15
24We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said.
Mark 9
[38] And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
[39] But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

Luke 9
[49] And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
[50] And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

GCC,

Fascinating post. There's one thing I'd like you to clarify. You seem to speak well of "christendom" and don't see a problem with the affairs of the church being carried out with the powers of the state. What do you think of the Lutheran doctrine of the two kingdoms? Luther held that the church is God's "right-hand" kingdom where hearts and minds are changed through the preaching of the gospel and the secular state is God's "left-hand" kingdom where justice and civil order are administered through coercive power.

Oh, that was not my intention at all. I use 'Christendom' to refer the global Christian community, not necessarily the system of political-religious relationships found in the Holy Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. I'm a firm believer in Luther's doctrine of the two kingdoms.

Ezekiel 37:22 And I make them to a-nation, One in land, in mountains of Israel.
And a King, one, He shall become for all of them to a-King
and not shall be further to two of Nations
and not they shall be divided further to two of Kingdoms further

Reve 16:17 and the seventh Messenger pours out the bowl of him into the air
and came out great Voice from the Sanctuary of-the heaven from the throne saying "it has become"/gegonen <1096> (5754).

Oh look, the Dominicans. That is St Dominic (sp?). The orb at his feet represents the world, and the torch born by the dog represents that the fire of orthodox preaching shall fill the world as if with fire of God. The dog itself represents the epithet of the Dominicans, Domini canes. :)

Jesus would forbid no man from doing good.

This is not to say that he would not forbid a man from teaching error.

This is not a relevant passage.

More to the point, someone teaching doctrine contrary to the apostles is not for them.

Wishful thinking? Point was authorization.
Looks like Jesus is focused on message, not pedigree.
Apostolic Succession washes out except where continuity of truth is concerned.

The point was authorization to teach, not authorization to do Christian works.

There is no continuity of Truth without apostolic succession.

Sola scriptura leads to continuity of disunity and confusion.

Well, the RCC better get used to the idea that it also has lessened the power of the Roman Vatican and Papacy.
That isn't such a bad thing in my humble view

1 Corinthians 14:33 for not is of tulmuts/akatastasiaV <181> the God, but of Peace, as in all the Outcalleds of the Saints.

Luke 21:9 Whenever yet ye should be hearing battles and tumults/akatastasiaV <181> no may be being dismayed for is binding these to be becoming but not immediately the End
