The number of guns in private ownership have gone up.
Deaths from guns has gone down.
Sometimes I wonder if people just think it has gone up due to 24-hour news coverage.

I don't want to get rid of guns and I don't want to get rid of race. I want to get rid of hate.
Sadly, as long as we are in a fallen world hate will remain.

You missed the point. Every generation will have to face something sinful. For this generation, it's gun violence.

If that's all you think we have that's sinful, you might want to look around more.

I'm not saying quit selling guns. I'm saying quit selling so many of them.

If the number of them is the problem, then why are gun deaths going down as the number of guns being sold goes up? Disarming Realities: As Gun Sales Soar, Gun Crimes Plummet

Then start praying and telling? for drug use to go down, then stealing and killing goes down too.

because criminals do not know who does and who does not have a gun, so they are less likely to try something.

I think all 50 states now have CCW laws now too. The naysayers were claiming that CCW would result in rivers of blood flowing in the streets. So far, we haven't seen that. We've seen the opposite. Too bad the naysayers won't admit to being wrong though.

Although, I WILL say I am not sure about having CCWs being good in all fifty states is a good idea.

I do concealed carry and I recommend it.
I would do it if I could and do encourage those who can to do so, however my eye sight and motor skills are such if the sheriff gave me a CCW he would not deserve to be sheriff.

Have you every read about Galen and the theory of opposites. The Greeks applied this to the human body as well as the world. If you have too much violence then you need more peace. Kind of a truism. If you have too much hate then you need more love. Maybe the hippies were right.
This all falls apart with crazy people. Truly crazy people don't know that they are crazy. They know that something is wrong but blame it on the world around them. They lash out at their perceived tormentors. When you are young your world is your family, your God and your peers. Would more love salve the anger in a crazy person? I also propose that violent people don't hate as much as they are just angry at the world. Maybe just semantics. Pray for God to help us all.

I'm not gonna be debating God and his role in the evil of this world or whatever. What I am going to say is something that needs to be said.

We've had yet another school shooting this morning in Texas. We've had yet another wicked, truly evil person walk in freely and murder eight students. If that does not outrage you, you are not human and have no pulse.

The last thing we need to offer are just "thoughts and prayers." Thoughts and prayers are not enough anymore. God hates gun violence. Period. And so should we.

How many school shootings is it going to take for the church to wake up to the fact that there are truly evil people in this world? That Satan has made it clear he is not going to play fair? Does it have to go so far as to seeing their own children murdered? I'm all for the second amendment, but is it worth defending at the cost of these kids lives?

Bottomline, this is all outrageous and disgusting. All of us, liberals, conservatives, Christians, Atheists, whatever! We all need to start sending demands our police and politicians and gun manufacturers, "DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!"
It seems to me that these shootings are not something that comes out of the blue. Everybody knows it's going to happen well ahead of time and then sits back and watches.

What is it about the USA that prevents preemptive measures against known risks?

When we know that a person presents a risk to the community, (in the States with it's weapon laws the risk becomes considerably higher much earlier in the piece than in other countries i.e. A person who wishes to kill does have easy access to the tools to do the job) shouldn't we be taking strong measures to ensure that these people do not act on thier expressed intentions.

In my country we probably have just as many if not more fruit loops but the ability to carry out thier intentions is strongly inhibited by the weapons laws in place and the preventative action that is taken against people who express murderous intentions.

I don't know what the solution is. Seriously. I don't give jack about politics. But I do care about how Christians now tend to idolize guns. For every 100 people, there are 88 guns within the United States. (Mccarthy, Beckett, & Glenza, 2017) It is estimated there are about 265 million guns in U.S. citizen hands. These numbers might seem outlandish, but this is largely because roughly half of these guns are owned by a mere 3 percent of the population.

Thank you for nailing one of the significant problems that doesn't seem to want to be addressed by the USA authorities.

Here in Australia, we've taken a different approach to use of guns after the mass shooting deaths of 35 people in Port Arthur, Tas in April 1996.

"Thoughts and prayers are not enough anymore. God hates gun violence." Do you know WHY we are to pray? You think GOD can go against mans will? Again do you know WHY we are to pray and in and about EVERYTHING. Why? This every believer should know the answer.

And just who are you to speak for what GOD hates other then what is written? Jesus came and died for the person that did this...just as He did for you. PRAYER..

Then... to never talk about all the other awful evil things that go on in the world. This goes on day in day out. This is the price when we listened to a lie and gave what GOD made for us..to us. As Satan told Jesus.. this was given/handed to me and I can give it to who ever I want. There is a reason Christ came...we as believers have RIGHTS! But if you dont know what they are ... the enemy will walk on us and everyone else. So we PRAY! Its awful for just ONE to be hurt.. pray for them

The first high school shooting here in the US was Columbine. I was in high school then. 30 years prior, when my dad was in high school, it was not uncommon for them to have rifle clubs. There once existed a US where schools could literally hand the guns to the students and everything was fine. I'm always curious to ask people their thoughts: what changed?

God hates gun violence. Period. And so should we.

God hates that type violence, whether it's done with a gun or a pencil. As far as violence in general, he knows it's necessary at times. As far as gun violence in particular..Hunting is gun violence, protecting our families is gun violence, war to protect our country...etc. Though God and us both hate that we are sometimes forced to do those things, no he does not hate the person doing them for good reason, hence he does not hate gun violence, he is glad some do gun violence, but there again, has nothing to do with the gun itself.

But I do care about how Christians now tend to idolize guns.

Hope you'll forgive my assumption of possibilities here, but my first thought is this person (you) a nondenominational Christian or Atheist, and is this just anther of the "Bad Christian" or blame the Christian, posts that happen around here often enough from Atheist? One reason I though that a possibility is the way you assumed guns are our idols, when I'd guess that is very unlikely the case for most if not virtually all Christians.

Anyway, no big deal regardless, but I would ask if you are Christian?

These terrible shootings in the US need to be dealt with. It is a difficult problem that requires a multifaceted solution. Some may dusagree, but I think such. A solution would would include the following:

Requiring parents to keep all firearms in a secured location, preferably under lock and key, and adopting laws that would impose serious jail time for those who fail to do so.

Banning the sale of guns and to anyone under a certain age (I would presume a minimum age of 21).

Banning gun sales to anyone who has been convicted of a felony.

Banning gun sales to anyone diagnosed with certain mental illnesses (I’m sure experts in th field could determine what illnesses).

Banning the sale and ownership of automatic weapons to civilians (don’t tell me that they are already banned—that isn’t true in all cases). I’m sure some type of buyback program could be set up so that owners would get some sort of recompense.

Require a mandatory waiting period of four weeks to purchase a gun with no exceptions.

Require ID for any gun sale.

Significantly increase penalties for any illegal gun sales. Again, this should include serious jail time.

Ban all semiautomatic weapons, or at the very least ban all assault style weapons, with a buyback for those currently owning them legally.

We already do that. If a criminal wants a gun, he will get one. He will steal it. Or buy one from other criminals.
