Maybe they find it hard to relate. My siblings were Army brats, and many of my relatives have been in various armed services, but I've remained a civilian.
That is possible.

If I was on a date with a woman who served in the military, I'd probably mention my family members, say where they were stationed, and talk about visits to various military schools and bases
That sounds like what a normal person would do. It's only courteous to acknowledge at the very least. Even if you can't relate. For example if someone mentioned golf, I might say I've never played golf before. I might mention a friend or an old boss that's a die hard golfer.

She should also try to meet me halfway, by demonstrating an appreciation for the fact that civilian life isn't so cut and dry in terms daily routines, what to wear, chains of command, etc. It
Yes, I would agree.

It sounds like the guys you're talking with had to chart their own course. It's a different lifestyle. Your teaching experiences might be more relatable and elicit more of a response from them.
I was only thinking of certain guys that come from wealthier backgrounds. There's many guys that will at least acknowledge it. The situation that presented itself recently was maybe a message that I had sent about living not so far from where he lived in a bigger city at an Air Force Base for 3 months. There was no acknowledgment of it and he only asked me another question. But just tonight he asked me about how long I had been in the Air Force. So I will at least get to tell him that part of my life and most likely move on to other conversation. Another guy that I had dated last year, when we dated for 7 weeks I don't think he asked one question about the military background. But when he found another girl he started liking pictures that had to do with the military that I had posted on social media. I just noticed it with a handful of guys that maybe are in more of an elite crowd. Thanks for timing in your thoughts. They are useful.

Thank you. This week was my grandmother’s birthday. She’s been gone a year. There’s a lot going on. The Lord had me break my fast to stop the headache. I’m contemplating trying tomorrow with boilermaker prayer. We’ll see how I feel.
I didn't know you were fasting. Sorry that you got a headache, I have been there also. It's good that you are seeking out the Lord.

prayed a lot and the Lord had me go over some deliverance things. I
Deliverance is a wonderful thing. I go through periods of praying through things. It's interesting because I think the Lord heals layers of areas that we need to surrender at different points when we are better equipped to handle it and let go. Sometimes I look back and wonder why I even held onto something for so long.

I cannot believe that I actually got sunburned today.
I'm so sorry to hear. I also got sunburned yesterday running for 3 hours. I ran 14.5 MI, the longest I have run in 21 years. Ended up almost passing out at the end when I went to get food. I started blocking out and had to sit down on the grass for a second and then found some shade to regain my site. I'm thinking that was heat exhaustion. That's the second time that I've had that this year after a long run.

Digging through a box of different letters and memories, while I was looking to see if I could find recipes for my mom for my late grandmother, I came across this paper from 2010 of my activity on Christian forums. I wondered if I had ever posted my picture and it appears that I had.

Such great memories from when I started out on Christian forums and the group of friends that I made during that time. I can't remember if it was 2006 or 2007. We had so much fun and I was at least able to visit with one person while I was in South Carolina with the Air Force. He's married now and I follow his life on social media. I also got to meet one gal that was living in Chicago.

I know right. I think one of the most frequent conversations I had was with Mina. There were a few others. I think many of them have married.

Now I see from your following post how it is that you have the gumption to stay in shape by doing this much, Miss Sampa, running for so long every day. You said that you were once in the air force.

A tough gal, she is. ^-^

hahaha.. no I don't run everyday. I've always had the role of three times a week at most, possibly four. A long run like that I basically had to take most of the week off from running. I just did a short fun Run with someone's kid. This week I will also be tapering pretty much not doing any run except maybe a trail run for my work. One more real long run the next week before my half.

A tough gal, she is. ^-^
Haha. I like this picture. Yes I'm tough, but not in the way that one would look at with the exterior. I think I've been more of a survivor mentally with some very difficult situations. But yes I do think physically I can do some tough things. I have a mother that is 10 times tougher than me.

This knight would be curious to meet her on the field of honor in combat, then. She must be a worthy opponent.:eheh: (I know what you meant, of course. :) )

Hey, that's still a lot more than the lousy three minutes I spend planking until I feel a slight burning in the stretched muscles and then doing 25 pushups for exercise every other day or so, though. ^_^

How elite we talking about? My point of reference is mostly academy grads and faculty. One was assistant DA in his state. Some came from wealthy backgrounds, and some didn't. Some have Ivy League educations, and some joined right out of high school. None would look down on your experience in the Air Force. This is just one extended family, of course. I can't speak for everyone, but I can report what I've observed. That's why I chose to respond to your post.

Folks from all walks of life can have military connections. Likewise, folks from all walks of life can be dismissive of military service. Some will relate better than others regardless of socioeconomic background. I'd think military connections, or lack thereof, would be a bigger factor. That being said, I wouldn't call the people who have my dad (Army officer) a hard time for his service in Vietnam "elite". True classiness has more to do with manners and how one treats others (which, coincidentally, is one criteria I use to determine how elite somebody is).

If you're concerned that military experience might exclude you from wealthy or powerful social circles, I don't think you have much to worry about.

that's more that I'm doing lately. Strength training is my weakness and I have gotten behind as my running has continued. I will go back to planks and push-ups most likely after my 13.1 in 2 weeks.

Very true. I have friends and academia, my military background has no bearing on our friendships.

Folks from all walks of life can have military connections.
Very true.

Yes, maybe there is not a common theme. Maybe this handful of prospects, just don't have very good social skills. It's hard to gauge also if the conversations only go so far. It was just a thought trying to see if there was a common thread or theme.

True. I remember one guy that was curious about my experience with West point. After his question and interest because he thought I attended West Point I took it out of my profile. I had only worked there for two summers but not attended the academy. Thanks for your thoughts Miles.

Thanks, but, it really does sound like running even just once a week (and you seem to have said before that that is the most infrequent you have ever done as of late) for 9 or 10 miles minimum takes a lot more energy and hurts a lot more to get through than the total amount I described myself doing in a week. ^_^ Pretty much just as a way to get the blood circulating after being asleep between twelve hour shifts for anywhere from 6 to 14 hours at a time, and whether I woke up for work at 4:15 in the morning or 4:15 in the afternoon. ^_^

Very true. It also is good to see how their character is.

Agree with you and @Miles definitely on that one. :)

Nice. I was there a few weeks ago. Likewise, not as a cadet. It was for a social event. Small world.

Explaining the difference between one's employer, and being affiliated with that employer for other reasons can be tricky in a dating context. Mentioning it might give the wrong impression, but not mentioning it might leave out pertinent information. I often omit such things, because being underestimated is more manageable than being overestimated, but there are times when they're worth mentioning.

Nervous and excited. First time having a real conversation since I was accepted in April with the elite dating app. I haven't had a conversation and quite some time by phone or video with someone. The dating app doesn't allow for many details so he doesn't know much about my Christian faith yet or might not negotiables. He is a five and a half hour drive away. It could be our first and last conversation. I've only had three to four conversations through this dating app. It also has a rating system, so people stay on their best behavior. Which means either ghosting and not talking to you or ending the messaging well.

On another note, I am praying for wisdom concerning the apologist that I asked space for. He called the other day and left a message because he had seen a picture posted on my profile. Although we have communicated that we are not a match, I feel like he is holding out hope. I've kind of seen this in the past with other guys and after some years they have become frustrated and wanted nothing to do with me. I sent a friendly text to let him know that I will talk to him again in mid October as we had talked about. I want to do the right thing and I don't want to give any mixed messages.
