Looks like it's finally time for a new laptop. All of a sudden the keyboard is having major issues (some keys not working at all at times). That makes it hard to type!

I was going to draw today but my tablet was having issues, requiring me to restart the computer, which was doing updates so it took forever to restart...so I changed my mind.
Sometimes, pencil and paper are the way to go, as they don't need updates or reboots.

If the laptop keys themselves are failing, you're probably right about it being time to upgrade. How long have you had that one?

One thing you could try is 99% alcohol cleaning around the not working keys. This is risky in that if the cleaning works on a key the stuff cleaned could gum up other keys around it. I would consider trying compressed air though as it shouldn't cause any issues and maybe a vaccuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
I'm not sure but if the laptop has a USB port you may be able to simply plug in a separate USB keyboard and use it that way. I haven't used a laptop much and when I did I still preferred a full size keyboard over its keyboard.

It's 11 years old, so it's pretty old. We've been thinking about replacing it for a while anyway since it's kind of slow.

Thanks for the suggestion! We did think about cleaning it but weren't sure if it would help...some keys have been having issues for a while but it was never this bad before!

If I were there I could take apart the keyboard and see if I could clean it for you. 11 years is awhile it could just be wearing out. I'm using my first PC keyboard from 1991 on this computer and it still works perfectly although for some reason I had to shim one key about a year after I got the keyboard that key has not had any problems since. I've worn down the little bump on the J key that helps you position your fingers for touch typing and a lot of the keys are very polished looking.. shiny big time. The keyboard is to old I had to use 2 adapters to plug it into my computer. I have a DIN to PS/2 adapter and a PS/2 extension cable with a PS/2 to USB adapter on the end. I don't have any windows keys on it either. It has a heavy metal plate inside so it doesn't move much and no clicking either.

I dropped my landline and AT&T when both died on me. It took almost a week to get internet back working and 8 days to get my phone number totally connected to a cell phone account so my life was a mess for 2 weekends in a row. The two things I miss of a landline is caller ID and having an excuse not to answer the phone plus away all day I can come home and maybe get a surprise call from someone..... (not really).

Jeez, that sounds like a mess, but I'm glad that it all worked out for you.

Also, hoping I get paid soon. The next Madden is coming out tomorrow!

Worked out fine..... instead of paying $63/month for a landline with caller ID and 25 cents/minute long distance in case of an emergency plus unlisted number I got a $40 month cell phone with no caller ID and free long distance + 6GB of data. I did spend a week banished from society calling me including (har har) no spam at all. I also got a smart phone after the first month using a cheap flip phone just to get a crossover AT&T cell account (required) for land line numbers to cell phone transfers upon when the disconnect from the wired network is complete (land line) and the number on incoming calls is now not by default routed over a wired switching network you can then go to any cell phone service provider and transfer your number. I won't go back to land lines for at least one phone. If I do need a second phone only at one place (fixed) I would only consider a land line if needed. At $23/month savings for the last 5 years I've saved about $1300 and could save a little more by adjusting /changing plans as I've not exceeded 1GB of data a month I think I hit 900MB one time and was uploading digital copies of movies to my phone doing that (Ultraviolet).

It is too bad that they couldn't repeal the excessive taxes on land lines and made them cheaper than cell phone plans so more folks wouldn't switch that didn't need a cell phone. For now cell phones must not be taxed as hard or much at all but that could change in the future if someone catches on that they could use that money to fund something in government...
