Sometimes, pencil and paper are the way to go, as they don't need updates or reboots.I was going to draw today but my tablet was having issues, requiring me to restart the computer, which was doing updates so it took forever to restart...so I changed my mind.
One thing you could try is 99% alcohol cleaning around the not working keys. This is risky in that if the cleaning works on a key the stuff cleaned could gum up other keys around it. I would consider trying compressed air though as it shouldn't cause any issues and maybe a vaccuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.Looks like it's finally time for a new laptop. All of a sudden the keyboard is having major issues (some keys not working at all at times). That makes it hard to type!
It's 11 years old, so it's pretty old. We've been thinking about replacing it for a while anyway since it's kind of slow.If the laptop keys themselves are failing, you're probably right about it being time to upgrade. How long have you had that one?
Thanks for the suggestion! We did think about cleaning it but weren't sure if it would help...some keys have been having issues for a while but it was never this bad before! One thing you could try is 99% alcohol cleaning around the not working keys. I'm not sure but if the laptop has a USB port you may be able to simply plug in a separate USB keyboard and use it that way. I haven't used a laptop much and when I did I still preferred a full size keyboard over its keyboard.
If I were there I could take apart the keyboard and see if I could clean it for you. 11 years is awhile it could just be wearing out. I'm using my first PC keyboard from 1991 on this computer and it still works perfectly although for some reason I had to shim one key about a year after I got the keyboard that key has not had any problems since. I've worn down the little bump on the J key that helps you position your fingers for touch typing and a lot of the keys are very polished looking.. shiny big time. The keyboard is to old I had to use 2 adapters to plug it into my computer. I have a DIN to PS/2 adapter and a PS/2 extension cable with a PS/2 to USB adapter on the end. I don't have any windows keys on it either. It has a heavy metal plate inside so it doesn't move much and no clicking either. It's 11 years old, so it's pretty old. I got to cuddle my Boyfriend. =3 <3
Now I am sleepy. I am going to go to Bed.
Good Night CF!
I dropped my landline and AT&T when both died on me. It took almost a week to get internet back working and 8 days to get my phone number totally connected to a cell phone account so my life was a mess for 2 weekends in a row. The two things I miss of a landline is caller ID and having an excuse not to answer the phone plus away all day I can come home and maybe get a surprise call from someone..... (not really).
