I hope there are primaries. I am not a Republican, but I might make a small donation to his opponents' campaigns. They are each a profile in courage, courage that is severely lacking in Republicans in Congress and especially in the Senate.
One can be loyal to one's political beliefs without supporting every single proposal the leader of the party makes--or every single justice proposed for approval. There have been a number of judicial recommendations that were opposed by the American Bar Association, for example, because of a candidate's extreme youth and lack of experience. At least one had never appeared in a courtroom. Others had college newspaper articles and other paper trails indicating extreme points of view which cast doubts on their ability to look at both sides of an issue. Departments like the Environmental Protection Agency and the Interior are meant to protect our natural resources. Appointing energy lobbyists to these positions is unacceptable. I could go on, but you get my drift.
We need a few dozen more John McCains in the Republican Party.
