  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In a way anime is just japanese cartoons. Anime is japanese for animation, and was first made known by the french, when the american and english 'cartoon' first came about, it was very different though. It was mainly simed at children. Whether as in Japan, anime is used for many different types of film, even educational, and is used as a way to portray events and storylines better than could be done by live action films. Anime in japan is not usually controlled by the modern americanised order of programming, half hour cartoons with breaks half way through. They change length depending on how much is needed and may or may not have adverts. Cartoons in america/england are kiddy and portray little of any interest to adults. Anime can be watched by people of all ages, have in depth storylines, and most of the time are definately better animated. That is why it is wat it is...brilliant.

The only things I hat about anime is 1) it ends 2) I don't want to be in my boring life after it ends!!!

The good news is that there is that if you've got a good connection to the internet there is so much anime out there that is never has to end...

Having said that, a thing that annoys me about anime is that there are too many pointless series available...

Bit torrent and IRC!! XD

Pointless-ness bothers me too, another thing is the "go out and buy the manga" type of series. You know, the ones that smush 11 or more volumes into a 13 episode anime. X_X

I know the type all too well. ;) Or then they do the first 5 volumes and sort of forget the rest... which is better... but still annoying (well, it only gets annoying when the series ends :D).

Well I used to hate everything about anime. But recently I've become more tollerant. I still don't like how unrealistic and over exagerated alot of it is. It's very hard for me to find anime that I acctually enjoy on anything but a comical level.

As far as comics, I don't like black and white, colour is just so much more pleasing to the eyes. And for movies, often with anime the artists get lazy and use the same picture or drawing for more than one scene with different words or whatever. It's also kind of anoying when they pause all the time, nothing in the picture moves exept their mouth, like five ships are flying but they're all still. And when the girls are very fickle and they cry alot and change from pooring out tears to laphing with their mouths wide open in a matter of seconds.

Just some things that are over exagerated.

Stuff like Digimon and Dragonball Z are so over exagerated it's humerous.

By the way if you have any recomendations for good anime let me know.
I like Robotech, Gundam and the Animatrix. And I hate Pokemon, Sailor Moon, and Dragon ball Z.

And the anime in Kill Bill is prety awsome.

Have you seen the Macross Zero OVA (three fansubbed eps out so far, not licenced in the states yet). You can get them on animesuki. The animation is REALLY well done ;). And it has a realistic feel to it although its set in the future. I don't remember seeing any of the typical comic anime expressions... but I could be wrong... :D

forgot to say that.. i also hate it when an anime ends with an open ending, or when it is ended in a rush.
Open endings are fine, I happen to LIKE trigun and lain's endings. Rushed endings and endings that degenerate into meaninglessness are bad (Eva).

I'm mostly disturbed by

1) squeaky high voices
2) any form of homosexuality..(I noticed a long debate in this thread earlier, 0.o I'm just expressing my preference, I leave it to God to make the final judgement in this issue)
3) fanservice, hentai
4) annoying silly female main characters who get all the guys... ^_^

I used to watch a lot more anime and manga but started to cut down on those most christians see as "ungodly". Some may disagree with what's ungodly and what isn't, but I'm quite happy being selective with my titles now even if it's limited. ^^

Compared to a lot of other bad endings I've seen I wouldn't call Trigun and Lain's endings open... but that's only when comparing :D. I also concider them both good endings.

Btw, curious, are you referring to the TV series ending of EVA or the movie ending?

Both. Movie> TV, but both were still just bad.

I thought the TV ending much worse... soooooo boring :D. Compared to it the movie ending almost made sense. Still, they left WAY too many things unexplained but the movie ending had potential to become a really well made ending... and then it totally derailed...

don't know.. watching anime doesn't leave much space for imagination for me, so i'd like a good solid ending.

ending that leaves lots of holes like "E's otherwise" is torturous.
rushed ending like "Gundam Seed" ruins a good anime..

ending that degenerates into meaninglessness?... bored to death..
though i haven't seen eva.

*SPOILER*

I quite liked both endings personally. The TV ending wasn't much of an ending in terms of the plot, but it was philospohically interesting and positive, i.e. "You are in control of your life. Your decisions and the way you act effects the outcome of your life." And I personally love stream of conciousness, it's a nice mind trip.

The movie was different. The movie gave the plot some closure, although it did bring up more questions as to what the heck was actually going on than it solved.

I saw the whole thing as this: Both the last TV episode and the movie are taking place simultaneously. The TV closing is what is going on in Shinji's and Asuka's minds, while the movie is what is going on in the physical world. Shinji is ultimately given the choice of whether or not end humanity, his anger and self loathing makes him want to end everything at first, thus everyone starts dying, because he basically blames everyone else for everything. But his epiphany that he has in the last episode of changes his mind, and he and Asuka ultimately survive. Basically, Shinji and Asuka become the next Adam and Eve, with Asuka in a way representing physically (elements of Rei and Misato can be seen in Asuka at the end) all the girls that Shinji wanted to screw.
