What do you hate about anime?

I've always wondered about that. Like in BSSM, the youma sit there for like 10 minutes... patiently waiting for the senshi to finish transforming... why not just off them while they still are powerless?? Eh.. cause then the show would be over I suppose..

BSSM is the epitome of bad dubbing. The sheer horror of it takes dubs to a whole new dimension of sucking. And besides for the horrible voice jobs, what really got to me was the gender bending and the implication of incest between Haruka and Michiru. (For sanity's sake, if you're going to make them cousins, take out the darn "ooh ooh oooooh" romantic music. It really screws with people's heads.)

Okay.. done with ranting.

I don't even watch dubs anymore. Too many bad experiences. Vampire Hunter D for instance took the liberty of inserting cheesy lines at points where there were no lines in Japanese... needless to say it was back to Japanese with English subtitles about 10 minutes in.

The words don't register in our ears; only the quality and the intonation of voices do. I have a feeling that if I could understand Japanese I would find at least a significant chunck of Japanese voice acting exaggerated and corny.

Well, even for those of us who can understand some of the Japanese (enough for example to know how literally the translators are translating, or if they're taking liberties), it still sounds fine.

I beg to differ, since anime is such a big thing in Japan they get better voice actors to do the acting. Like disney stuff in the US. I think that is why it sounds better. Although, I doubt all animes have good Japanese voice acting...

Yeah, I like Sailor Moon, but sometimes there are just some really stupid things in it... In the process of editing the S and SS seasons the people knew that lesbians would be a big no-no for the little kids watching and so they decided to make them cousins in the American dubs. But then by just changing them to cousins and doing nothing else, everybody can still tell that they are romantically involved. They spent all this time mirroring cars on the road so that they would be driving on the right rather than left like in Japan in which they could have been changing something more important...

And butchering more plots for the "benefit" of american audiances (The worst with this is Card Captor Sakura. Episode 8 Japenese version is Episode 1 american version). Why can't they just air it unchanged?

You know that if they aired it as is that somebody's mommy is going to be calling Cartoon Network saying how Johnny heard bad things on their channel. Though it's her fault anyway since CN is pretty good about saying "parental discretion" on shows that need it.

Oh poor woman. Her kid can watch MTV which has dating shows, talk to his friends, who I'm suretalk about anything resembling these subjects frequently (middleschoolers are all predictable), by staying up late, see it on Cartoon Network. A milder, tamer version of it. Of course there would be complaints, but honestly only from people who don't watch anime. They're not the target audience. Who cares?

Well, considering that the majority of Cartoon Network's shows are targeted to teens and younger, they probably would like to keep some of their viewers. Whereas MTV is meant for teens and up and so they assume that you know if you should not be watching it. Some parents block MTV because they know that there can be some disgusting things on it, but a lot of parents think that all Cartoon Network has is that Bugs Bunny stuff and DBZ and don't know what else "Johnny" is watching. They'd be a little shocked if they found "Johnny" watching something that they didn't know was even shown on the channel... So, to please the parents, Cartoon Network basically has to cut the majority of the stuff out.

It wouldn’t be a debate without two sides; whether it is natural or not is what the debate is… an open mind looks at BOTH sides without rude disrespectful remarks to the other. The harsh views of people towards the fact I have a different view than them in this list is very disheartening. The second you try to be disrespectful to the other’s point of view with what the BIBLE is teaching us as I and many other Bible believing Christians see, makes your view less warranted. To say I may be fearful of what I believe God (based on the Bible) himself sees as sin, is extremely disrespectful and because of it I see your view as less relevant.

It would be nice if it were as simple as saying "Well the Bible says this" or "The Bible says that", but because the book is such a complex book, it's impossible to say such things. And when you get a book that is open to interpretation, as the Bible is, it's only natural that people would dispute over meanings of things in it. It's been going on through History. Why do you think we have thousands of different Protestant divisions alone?

Okay you guys, you may have all forgotten or have not realized, but other moderators and I have been keeping a sharp eye on this thread.

First of all, the anime forum is NOT for debating. So far, the majority of this thread has been back and forth bickering over who is right or who is wrong.

You can all express your opinions in this thread, but you CAN NOT express it in a way that puts others down.

For example: If for example BobSmith said something about Pokemon that seemed wrong in Kathy's eyes, Kathy could say something like "Although that is a great point you bring up, I have to disagree..." This way both sides can get what they want, and not start a flamewar.

If I or any other moderator sees any more flames or put-downs, this thread will be closed. Take my advice into concideration please. Thank you.
