  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Actually I saw a documentary on this with the "why are their eyes so big?" The artists state that the bigger the eyes, the more gentle the character is [or appears] to be. When they make the babies, they draw the eyes very large and as they get older, they make them smaller, but they are still big. A good example would be Akachan to boku. Where as the evil characters had really slanty eyes.

I also read that in a how to draw manga book. The bigger the eyes the cuter. For a slghtly older/more mature character smaller eyes. Evil character = slanty eyes... Lots of fun stereotypes in anime... although one might get tired of them one day...

I love Japanese eyes, they are so beautiful, i want to have eyes like that, and i think its funny how loads of japanese ppl think the same bout 'american' eyes. Anyway back to topic...Anime features are larger for that reason and(kind of broadening that explanation and adding a little)also to portray more emotion, when you are confused say, your eyes go a tiny bit smaller, but if the artist was drawing with normal sized eyes, then it would be a lot harder to draw that tiny difference, with the huge manga eyes, it is so much easier and better understood, they can better portray fear, hatred, deformity, a special nature, evil, purity, just by slightly changing those big bright eyes into slightly different eyes.

I really want to be a mangaka, I have made a short manga, but cant get their hair right yet

I don't really care much for homosexual tones to an anime, but unless they start talking about (or doing) something sexual, it doesn't bother me. But that's just my opinion.

The two things that I hate most about anime are how often the endings are completely terrible, and excessive fanservice. Both problems showed up in Mahoromatic, and completely ruined what could have been a really, really good series.

 WHY!?!?!? Why do they have to screw up good anime like that!? It's just so irritating!

I hate the staples of fighting anime.

1. Dragging a single fight out over twenty episodes.

2. "You haven't seen anything yet! I've only been using 1 percent of my true power! Ahahahahaha!!"

3. The I'm-so-fast-no-one-can-see-me-insane-speed-levels

4. Thirty seconds of characters just grunting or screaming (ex: when DBZ characters go super saiyan.

5. several others that I don't feel like typing out.

Don't get me wrong. I like fighting anime, especially Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, and Flame of Recca. I just don't like the extreme exagerating that tends to be used.

Dubbing usually sucks badly. But I prefer a good dub to subtitles. Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion had really good dubbing.

I hate how a lot of anime is poorly animated. Like in many action scenes, the camera just pans around... Gundam Wing has TERRIBLE action in that sense. Cowboy Bebop had some really good action, as does Evangelion...

I just love good action scenes, and it's a shame that so much anime doesn't animate their action scenes well.

It annoys me when the anime gets censored, too.

The anime industry can be compared to that of the American film industry. More movies come out, which is good and most of those movies are terrible, which is bad. An anime can be ruined by too much obvious fan service, poor animation, and awful scripts that were written on a napkin. For example, Green Green, Sailormoon live-action(I know it's not anime), or any anime with the word maid in its title etc. Of course, customers of anime are asking for these things and its just what we ordered. One must search for good anime or ask for a reccomendation. Fullmetal Alchemist and Last Exile are terrific anime.

As for Shintoism...it's just not as popular. There are too many restrictions and its just so primitive that people turned to Buddism. In Japan, its very rude to talk about religion. Trust me.

I have a little idea to spice up this thread. Since all of you seem so interested in Japanese culture, we should share bits and pieces of information.

Ever walked into a Japanese store and noticed a round red head with a black eye and white eye? That's called a Daruma. The Daruma's purpose is for wishes. To make a wish, paint the left eye black and when your wish somes true, paint the other eye. The Daruma originated from a legend of a man who meditated for forty years. He meditated for so long that is arms and legs fell off, thus creating the image he is today. I attached a pic to show you what it looks like.
