• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I *was* allergic to:

Dairy (cow and goat -- sheep's milk cheese was ok)
Corn
Crab/some fish
Omega 3 fatty acids
some molds
wild garlic and wild onion
stevia
Adhesive on bandaids and cloth tape (corn)
Most cleaning agents (corn)
perfumes (except essential oils - corn)
Glade plug ins (corn)
Lots of booze (corn -- doesn't matter I don't drink anyway)
All pills (corn)
Hidden corn as in "100%" maple syrup, canola oil, tap and some bottled water, all coffee, black tea, flour except King Arthur brand, yeast except one Red Star type
Meats and veggies soaked in citric acid made from corn
xanthan gum (oh...yeah that's corn)
Plastic grocery bags (corn)
most Toilet paper (corn)

And lol the list goes on.

I seem to be over all of these allergies since discovering an Australian treatment that's being introduced to the states. I'm quite amazed at the efficacy and simplicity, not to mention how much cheaper it is to just remove the allergies instead of paying through the nose to deal with the reactions and never get over the allergies.

Unfortunately you can't use the treatment if you've gotten to the point where you're anaphylactic. :(

Oh, I'm still allergic to licorice root, but really, compared to this other stuff, I don't think I particularly care about that one. I'm still allergic to most antibiotics too. I might get around to getting treated for that eventually.

What is this treatment?

I get extremely bad cramp when I eat dairy. Lactaid pills don't help me one bit and it sucks... I still eat a bit of dairy, and I am starting to figure out which products bother me most.
I think it's the acidic content of certain foods which also bother me- like apples, oranges, strawberries, all sorts of fruit.
I am anaphylactic to mustard, which is extremely random. I don't get that one.
I am hypoglycemic, because lots of the time I get tired due to low blood sugar >_<

I'm allergic to fruit (all fruit) but to varying degrees. Some of it (citrus) makes me anaphylactic, some (melons) just makes my tongue swell and mouth/throat itch and some (berries, etc) makes my mouth blister. Apples, bananas, grapes, etc... I'm allergic to all of it. My allergist says its something about the enzymes. I don't get it but ya just gotta live with it.
I'm also uber allergic to eggs - can't even get the flu shot... and nuts, too (except peanuts, I can eat those)
I'm also intolerant to a whole list of medications and animals make me itch and sneeze. Plus hay fever to different pollens.
Sounds like a lot but I manage.

My allergies come and go, and have done so since I was 18.

Currently I am allergic only to;

1. Nuts (tree nuts, brazil nuts, peanuts, etc)
2. Trees (a variety. I forget which but I can usually tell by the rash if I've touched the wrong one!)
3. Weeds (cannabis too surprisingly! I found that out by accident while visiting a family member who smokes heavily)
4. Sage Brush (I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS. But I tested the highest possible reaction via blood test and quite badly via the arm test)

I have a standing order to return every three years and have myself tested because every three years my allergies seem to shift.

My reactions vary from intolerance reactions (clearly I'm not 'allergic' to potatos, they just make my stomach hurt), to rashes, hives, vomiting and anaphylaxis.

Does anyone else have allergies that seem to fluctuate?

My main household allergies are to dust and pet dander with a milder allergy to dust mites. I have 2 Yorkies & had them 10 yrs before I found out I was allergic to them! Needless to say, I can't part with them now, especially as one of them has several health issues. Instead I banned them from the bedroom & wash them in a dander-reducing shampoo weekly. My outdoor allergies are to several types of grasses, some trees, ragweed and a milder allergy to molds. I am thankful to the Lord that I have few food allergies & didn't like most of them as I am not a fruit or nut eater. I did have to swap milk on my cereal for soy milk and can no longer eat a shrimp cocktail. My milk allergy is mild & my allergist said I can have it in processed cheese & cooked in recipes. I also cannot eat oats, so there went my oatmeal & Cheerios. The good news is that I had been diagnosed as having Irritable Bowel but now that I have eliminated these foods from my diet I rarely have it anymore! I had assumed the Cheerios were adding so much fiber to my diet that they were making me run to the bathroom but instead I was allergic to them! I was also using a body lotion with oatmeal in it & kept wondering why I was itching. One thing I learned to beware of are natural & organic beauty products as they contain lots of flower & plant extracts. For some reason my mineral makeup had pine bark extract & I am allergic to pine so it went in the trash along with the other products. Guess I'll just put chemicals on my face instead. I've been on allergy shots for a year this month & am very pleased with the results. I felt like the Lord led me to that particular treatment. Right now the dry indoor air is bothering me causing nosebleeds. Happens every winter. Do any of you have that problem? I'm doing sinus rinses & squirting saline in my nose along with applying a little Vaseline to the inside front of my nose.

Hives, vomiting, swelling, breathing difficulties, dizzy spells ... rather than doing the sensible thing of avoiding such things I push my body by trying to work out what I can get away with. Small amounts of most edible things lets me get away with only slightly laboured breathing and puffy face, the way things are going though may have to be much stricter :/
