• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I just found this section, oh my gosh I have so many allergies. Foods, dust, mold, pollen, grass, cleaners, soaps, lotions.... The list goes on :( Just walking by someone in school with a certain lotion or perfume can ruin my whole day. It get so frustration sometimes. ;( it has way to much control over my life!!! The headaches are so painful, I am thankful its not something life threatening but ugh! Sometime all I can do is cry and not leave the house because if I take benedryl I can't drive. :/ I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to my dog too but I love her so I don't care. I feel like moving to Antarctica with the penguins, but I'm probably allergic to them too.

Can you not take shots for this.... I do and it allows me to function and enjoy my creatures and life.

I quit going to my doctor for my allergies because the pills he kept giving me have awful side effects. My allergies are so bad right now I need to go back, I will ask him about the shots. Happy to hear you are able to enjoy life and your creatures. :)

I have oral allergy syndrome to birch tree pollen. That makes me allergic to the following foods:
-Apples
-Carrots
-Soy
-Peaches
-Plums
-Some types of nuts
(I have yet to discover more)

However I can eat those foods cooked since the pollen is eradicated.

I also have asthma, eczema and hay fever. No serious allergies though, I have a friend who is mortally allergic to nuts. Our school had to change the school menu so many times for him.

Man I need this thread today...been battling with self pity, usually win, but this helps

I know I am allergic to chemicals, mostly herbicides and pesticides. The reactions are very severe as in throat and tongue swelling, breathing issues that restrict my air severely, etc. I have the same type reactions to onions and parsley (talk about in everything) It is so bad that I literally can't go anywhere without risking a reaction and our daughter who is in track, can't wash her hands with the soap at school (hypoallergenic anti bacterial has pesticides in it). When she comes home, she can't go near me until she scrubs and does her laundry, I can't even dump her clothes in the wash.

I can't get a Dr. who will treat it unless I go to ER which I try to avoid (long story) and it has been going on for so long that now it is affecting my muscles and I can barely move. I have a reaction almost every day at this point, enjoy weeks I can board myself up at home because it means a couple of days of break. Now, those chemicals are even in our food! It has been going on long enough that it is causing issues with my heart, which means the meds will aggravate other issues.

Things took a turn health wise when I was exposed to some on my skin by shaking hands with someone who had been exposed. that but me flat on my back for a week with digestive, circulatory, and pulmonary systems trying to shut down. That was in July, haven't fully recovered yet...

Well enough complaining...thanks for the encouragement! A great blessing to me today!

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry for what you're going through. I'm also sensitive to chemicals and scents but not to that extreme. Praying for you :prayer:

thanks...the funny thing is that after the issue in July and a certain person who took a callous attitude and after my father laughing at me unable to breath and then putting the chemical on the carpet, I have become desensitized to being constantly aware...my husband on the other hand, has increased his awareness, almost to the point of paranoia ;) If we are at a dinner, he will even taste food before letting me have anything. At this point, I have resigned myself to just part of life and one day it will take my life, which freaks him out especially when I have issues when asleep.
