I recently finished a book on the desegregation of the public schools in Farmville, VA. Now I'm halfway thru a book on the integration of Norfolk, VA.. Both school systems practiced a Massive Resistance strategy to evade mandated integration.
Elusive Equality is well-researched, w/detailed recollections & specs from Norfolk's era of desegregation.

@SistrNChrist:

So what have you been reading lately, if I may ask? anything interesting?
I'm currently reading The War Against Boys by Christina Hoff Somers. It's a very interesting read about how our education system is failing our boys/young men.

Two books I am reading are:

Knight with Armour by Alfred Duggan, historical fiction, based on the 11th century Crusade - I wonder how soldiers today would cope with the armour those guys had to wear and the equipment they used - quite a lot of detail about those, but also some romantic input.

Donald Campbell: My Life With a Hero by Tonia Bern-Campbell, both autobiographical and biographical, relating to her relationship with Donald Campbell, who died trying to break his own water speed record - I saw it happen on tv, as many people did.

I am currently ready the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. Finished the prequels and am almost done with Foundation. I should be starting the next book in the series, Foundation and Empire, in a day or so.

What are the Foundation books about?
The Foundation series by Asimov is a science fiction saga where the Galactic Empire will soon collapse and plunge Humanity in to a dark age of 30,000 years. A scientist sees this through mathematical analysis and sees a way to make the dark age last a mere 1,000 years so he sets up The Foundation at the edge of the galaxy to help save Humanity and preserve the scientific knowledge of Empire.
The stories on the Foundation series were part of the inspiration for George Lucas' Star Wars stories. A an example in Foundation the Imperial capital, Trantor, is at the center of the Milky Way and the entire planet is a city. In Star War the Republic/Imperial capital is Coruscant at the center o the galaxy as is entirely made up of city.
I am finding the books an easier read than the Dune series by Frank Herbert.
