A terrible tragedy that one....repeat....one person did.... Not hundreds, not thousands, not people who came from all over the country.....just one person.
Oh, BTW was he ID'd as conservative?.....I never heard.

I live an hour away from Charlottesville. That count? A large group of people chanting Nazi slogans.

Even though I think Neo-Nazis' are lower than pond scum last time I checked they still have a right to publicly express their opinion.....Just as I have a right to not listen to them but not the right to go bust them over the head with a baseball bat......that pesky 1st Amendment thing ya know......

Ok, I'll go with it. I dont like when Antifa uses violence. I think it isn't productive. But it does seem like far less of a body count when compared to the right wing lone wolves.

This thread has nothing to do with body counts.....it is about shutting down opposing points of view through violent action if necessary. In this specific case it is about shutting down an 8yo through harassment and death threats.....but it does not seem respondents to the OP are outraged by that.....even to the point of suggesting that the parents are making it up.

I'm sure it happened. But, I also know it's the Internet. I've recieved threats. The more public you are, the more you get. It's sad, but it isn't a left or right wing thing. It's a "the world is filled with jerks" thing.

I disagree. It is far more that just "the world is filled with jerks". It is a world filled with "jerks" who are willing to be violent in order to achieve what they believe is a greater good.....and everyone should be scared of that....
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

You know I bet if someone were to confront the Antifa thugs with equal force they would quit their activities, because being paid $10 per hour just isn't enough compensation.

Look, I agree with you. Yet some people like to pretend their side doesn't do similar things. For example, how some might keep using Antifa as an example -- but in the grand scheme of things, as much as I disapprove of Antifa, I've not heard of them killing anyone, nor do they appear to be a very large group.

We have lost a lot of civility in this country in my lifetime; and the political climate is making it worse. OTOH, let's not pretend that this is anything that hasn't been going on for a while or that it is limited to politics. I remember a football game a decade ago between the U of Oklahoma and the U of Oregon -- a ref made the wrong call that ended up deciding the game, and he got death threads from those good, conservative people in Oklahoma. An LSU player pulled down the pants of an Alabama player during a game and got death threats. A woman did a study of athletes attending the University of North Carolina, finding that possibly 10% read at or below the third grade level -- and she got death threats for publishing her study.

And, as has been pointed out, it's gotten worse over time; particularly where people can do it anonymously (or so they think) over the Internet. Typically it isn't a serious threat, and there are lots of examples where it is even just a prank. The fact remains, though, that no matter who does it, or why, it is wrong.

I'm not sure the answer but I would hope that all these death threats are investigated and those that made them are called to account for their actions.

The body count isn't the issue. The frequency, organization and fanaticism involved in harassing, threatening, and committing violence against anyone who isn't them, is.

Huh.
I thought it was about irresponsible parents allowing their child to become an internet target.

I cannot imagine why the OP is in American politics, instead of, say, current events, or is it just “the left won’t let us exploit our children!”?

Or is it that the left won't let even an 8yo express an opinion without feeling threatened?

I'll tell you one thing... I would not want and would even speak out if I saw my sister or brother in-law involving my 8 year old niece in any kind of political discussion in this current climate we're living in. There are just too many crazies out there with way too much access to people right now for any sane person to take a public stance on their politics. It is dangerous. It is no place for children who don't even understand the context of the discussions that are taking place and it needlessly exposes them to a very ugly facet of American society.

I really feel for this little girl who was thrust into this disgusting battle that is happening. I don't feel for the parents who put her into this situation, though.

What made her parents think this is an appropriate subject for a child to take part in? They had to have known politics is as ugly as things come, especially now. She even says herself in the interview it was her dad's and uncle's idea.

The way I see it, they put her in this situation.

The body count isn't the issue.

That's because Antifa has yet to brutally murder someone they disagree with. THe majority of domestic terrorism here in the US is done by and on behalf of far right causes. Before 9/11 the single biggest terrorist activity on US soil was done by Timothy McVeigh, a racist rightwing extremist.

The frequency, organization and fanaticism involved in harassing, threatening, and committing violence against anyone who isn't them, is.

And most on the Left agree that Antifa is often more of a bad actor than a good one. But, again, there are far fewer graves filled with their victims than right wing extremists here in the US. Until that changes that is ALWAYS going to be the issue. ALWAYS.
