On another note, does this mean the SOTU is back on? and could that be Trump's reasoning for this last minute cave?
Man, it wouldn't be worth stopping the shut down, but at least having his SOTU would have been something to gain. I do not feel like Trump is very good at this whole negotiation thing at all.
I think it depends on the responses of Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity, and Fox and Friends. It is their "advice" that Trump typically seems to listen to.
Until he flat out stops fighting for or reneges on the wall, I'm good. It is a good thing I was wrong. I thought he was going to fire people. To be honest, that would not have at all been surprising, even tho it would have been a bit mean spirited.
He still hasn't abandoned the wall so were good.
President Donald Trump said Friday he's reached a deal to reopen the federal government after a month-long shutdown.
"I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government," Trump said in remarks from the Rose Garden.
"As everyone knows I have a very powerful alternative but I'm not going to use it at this time," Trump said.
Sources told CNN the White House and congressional negotiators made an agreement to temporarily reopen the federal government while talks continue on a border wall.
The path included signing a stopgap funding measure that would fund the government through February 15. But sources said it would not include any new funding for Trump's promised border wall, once an ironclad demand that led to the shuttering of government agencies.
They will negotiate, but that doesn't mean they will come to an agreement. I doubt they will unless Trump offers something juicy or caves.Dems told him that they will negotiate on the wall when the government reopens. Now we will see if they do or not. If not, the next shutdown is all on them.
I don't, because
1) there's no appetite for one after all the pain this one caused
2) everyone sees through Donny's "negotiation" "tactics" now
The chances of there being a wall have dropped to near zero. If there was any chance that declaring an emergency would work, they'd have tried it weeks ago. Stick a fork in Donny; he's done.

They have leverage, Trump has none. He gave it up at that press conference like a big fat christmas present. I would like to dream you can hear McConnell screaming at that point all the way from the capital or wherever he was at that moment, because so many GOP members must have facepalmed when he did this.True. I think it's cute how they imagine they have any actual leverage here. He's trying to make this a bipartisan effort, but I have no doubt he'll do it alone, if necessary.
Brace yourself for the Coulter-Limbaugh blitzkrieg...
I almost want to watch the Fox talk shows tonight.
