Can you quit with your condescending nonsense.

Well you keep talking about "asylum seekers" but in reality....80-90% of these people don't qualify for asylum. That means that a more accurate description would be "asylum frauds".

You also keep talking about being "humanitarian" but being fraudulently victimized by fraudsters at the border isn't really humanitarian....it's just dumb.

There is a process. Asylum Seekers make an application, the application is assessed, and if it passes it then goes to a judge.

There is nothing illegal or fraudulent about filling out an application and being rejected.
The only time it because fraudulent is if they lie when they fill out the application.

The bill wouldn’t change how many people show up
One of the primary reasons why so many people are making use of the US asylum process is that our initial screening criteria are very permissive and broad and the process, once you get past that initial screening, is very slow - meaning that migrants can easily get in, make the right noises, and receive a preliminary grant of asylum until their case can be heard by a judge, which can take up to ten years at this point. That's ten years that someone who doesn't actually qualify for asylum can live and work in the US, and every year spent in the country makes it less and less likely that they will actually leave, even if their asylum case is ultimately denied.

One of the major changes that the Senate bill makes is that it tightens the initial screening requirements and aims to get rid of most ineligible applicants within 6 months of their entry into the US. Assuming that the process works as advertised, that should cut down the number of people that show up requesting asylum. If the vast majority of ineligible asylum-seekers are expelled before they have a chance to put down roots, they'll have less incentive to make the attempt.

And yet republicans just killed a bill that would have speeded up the process. For reasons some republicans admit; if the problem gets fixed, Trump loses his last issue.

A very strong and significant majority of Republicans don't want the trash compromise border bill because there is too much garbage in it that we should not, cannot, and will not agree with.

Mostly, as some of them admit, it's because Trump needs the issue. If Biden fixes it, Trump is toast.

That sounds like the vast majority of talking heads on CNN, and MSNBC to me. They are nutty and baseless.
Generally speaking, yeah. Which is why you don't see people pushing their takes on things around here - even us lefties.

That is your opinion.
On the other hand, myself and others around here have already posted rational and legitimate reasons why that compromised border bill just isn't good enough at all to accept.

Yep. Certain people want it dead, so the talking heads on right-wing media play up the aspects of the bill that may not quite line up with what Republicans want while downplaying or outright ignoring the parts that do exactly what Republicans have been asking for in order to gin up public opposition.

What's the end-game here? Republicans don't have the numbers to ram through anything on a party-line vote, so the only alternative is to compromise. Or, I guess, hope that everyone forgets the fact that they deliberately killed a border reform bill to play politics and gives them a blue wave in October? Seems unlikely.
