  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I played that one briefly. I'm playing Star Trek Online and Star Wars: The Old Republic, but only occasionally.

I tried The Old Republic. Best single-player Star Wars game ever. Unfortunately, it's an MMO, so that causes some problems. :)

That's the only quest line that doesn't interest me. Is it any good? What makes it attractive to you?

1) The lore of the Brotherhood.
2) I love stealth quests, and I love quests with non-traditional mechanics. The Dark Brotherhood quests have some interesting challenges, both from the perspective of stealth (eliminate target x while they're taking their daily swim at noon in a public area. Do not be seen) and non-traditional mechanics. My favorite involved breaking into someone's house in the morning (when he and his bodyguard were out), getting into the crawlspace over his sitting room, waiting until nighttime, when - being a creature of habit - he sits in his favorite chair and reads. Then loosen the bolts holding up the minotaur head over his chair, so that it falls on him and kills him. Escape while the bodyguard is still in his initial shock of grief.

Also, in Oblivion, you break back into the Imperial prison and kill the guy who was taunting you at the beginning. That's worth all the trouble.

Have you ever played or looked into games like, "Hitman" (stealth/quirky assassinations) "Thief"(first stealth based game I ever played, great fantasy storyline too) or more recent, Dishonored? (Medieval hitman with magic)

With all this talk about Elder Scrolls has anybody here looked into the MMO they are making of it?

The Elder Scrolls Online Alliance Cinematic Trailer - YouTube

They are taking applications for the beta now.

http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/

Despite what I'm about to write yes, I did sign up for it.

I'm pretty much burned out on MMOs.

I've played, WOW/DDO/Eve Online/Rift/Dc universe/Tera/Star Wars the Old Republic.

With the exception of Eve Online they are all pretty much basically the same thing.

The only thing that Swtor has going for it is a decent single player story line. I betad for that game before it came out. Inbetween close of beta and release of the game they downgraded the graphics. I was a angry man.

Swtor would have been a great game if it had been released in 2005, that's how far behind the times MMO wise it was released as.

DCU is fun if you like comic books, it plays more like a fighting game with combos and such, the worst part of the game is the chat interface, I never thought I'd quit a game over a chat interface but yeah.

I've played WOW since 2007 I think and the last expansion has killed the game for me. I was a raider up until that point and I literally have zero want to play that game.

Of all of the games I listed the most different and unique is, "Eve Online" some MMOs claim to be a sandbox EO delivers it. You start out in the universe with an training ship, you run training missions that gives you the very very basics of the game. How to fly/shoot/scan/mine etc.

Then you are on your own. Join a corporation (guild) and play with others or go lone wolf and play alone. I played that game on and off for 2 years and I'm still confused by certain aspects of the game. Mostly combat stuff, I enjoy mining. Unlike the other games you actually loose something when you get blown up. You can spend (in my case) months of work making enough money to buy a nice mining ship just to have someone come along and destroy it. There is no respawn of your ship, if you were smart you had insurance and you get sent the money, on the more expensive ships insurance doesn't come close to covering the ship you lost plus all of the equipment on it.

So you've been blown up, now you are just a small pod that's holding your body, if they are exceptionally cruel they can destroy that too before you fly off. The way eve works there is no levels, you have points you get as you train, you can clone yourself and the clone will have all of your training points and skills trained up to a certain point. If your clone is out of date or you just don't have one when you get killed/podded you can lose all of your skills or all the skills you learned since your clone became outdated.

Here's a fairly accurate graph of the learning curve for eve online:

Mechwarrior online

I played some of that, not too good at it. I am too gung ho with my throttle and keep running into the mechs I'm trying to destroy.

Yeah, I'm special. One thing I will say for it over the other popular multiplayer 'mech game out right now (hawken) in mechwarrior online you can target parts of the mech, head/chest/left arm/right arm/L leg/R leg hawken doesn't have that it's just you a basic shooter with no headshots.

What mods do yall use?

Have you ever tried the Technic Pack?

Kinda neat making quarries and such, automating all your work.

I messed around with the Technic Pack for a while, but seeing as the makers of the pack didn't get proper permissions from the mod makers it had some issues. I've been using Feed the Beast, which is a cooperative effort by the mod makers, and has just about everything from Technic and then some. I also like to throw in a few other mods to spice things up, like Mo'Creatures for my own personal enjoyment. Run a quarry, automate a tree farm, and try and breed a unicorn so I can ride it like a Boss across the world.

I've never actually played EU before, though I've had it recommended to me a few times. CKII is a lot more in depth than the first one, and I managed to unify Ireland in my first go-around, so yay me. Lately I've found myself marrying off daughters to various heirs around Europe and then murdering the current kings so they get to be queen. ^_^

I have Victoria II as well, which is pretty fun. Played HOI3 but I'm not as good at the military management.

I've played CKII several times. It's seriously good stuff. EU3 is great, that was my introduction Paradox games; the modding community for it is also phenomenal.

Though it looks like they are working on EU4 now, which has some of the "prettiness" that CKII has. I'm pretty excited for its release, which I believe is Q4 of this year.

I get sucked into CKII when I play. I'll start up a game and three hours later I look up and realize how much time has passed.

Yeah, I've done that a few times playing CKII or EU3. The hours will just fly by. Same thing's happened to me the several times I've tried playing any of the Sims games.

As far as MMOs go, here is what I have played:

Dark Age of Camelot: Still my favorite, partly for nostalgic reasons since it was my first MMO. I never did like the PvP servers, but the RvR and PvE servers were entertaining.

Everquest II: I was heavily involved with this game for a few years. Lots of fun. I played many characters.

Eve Online: The learning curve on this game was so high I had to join a training guild just to play. Ultimately, the game was too dull to retain my interest, even artistically. You never see 3D avatars, and the planets look boring and you can't even land on them.

Age of Conan: Topless female avatars! Okay, I'm easily amused. Still, this was a fun game.

City of Heroes: The graphics were antiquated, but this game had some great gameplay. I had a lot of fun, though I didn't stay past my free trial because... the graphics were antiquated.

Dungeons and Dragons Online: Nice, but didn't really bring me back to the D&D campaigns I had played in high school and college, so I didn't stick with it.

Lord of the Rings Online: Pretty, but didn't really feel like Middle-earth to me. I grew bored and stopped playing.

Star Trek Online: Great concept, and I love the Star Trek universe, but the space combats are too long (sometimes half an hour straight) and strain my patience.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: I love the character arc content. I took a break from this game, but will probably get back to it soon.

World of Tanks: Perhaps this isn't technically an MMO, but this tank combat game is great for short PvP mayhem. PvP works for me with impersonal tank combat.

Did you make all that stuff without cheating?

I played Technic for a while then got tired of scavenging for basic stuff to build hard stuff and finally broke down and cheated.

I believe Mo'Creatures is part of technic too. I remember trying to play a map on hard without cheating, I did myself a house out of a hill, get enough wood to make enough coal for enough torches to light it clearly, then make a bed, I died in my sleep. Turns out if a ogre can see you in your house he's got no problem tearing it apart to get to you. Ugh.

I played that for like a day or so. It was pretty fun, until I ran into a borg ship.

Wow they didn't play around when making those guys.

I figure another shot a "let's all get along" thread is worth it. What are y'all playing right now?

Just beat Bioshock. Disturbing and stressful but an incredible game! I am taking kotaku.com's "Four in February" challenge and I plan to beat the following four games:

Infamous (PS3)
Alan Wake's American Nightmare (Xbox 360)
Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)
Majora's Mask (N64)

Honorable mention to Hydrophobia and Jet Set Radio if I can get to them this month, my goal is to beat a ton of stuff before I graduate college in May. :D

Edit: I feel its important of me to mention that after a week of insane cramming I beat Mass Effect 1 and 2 on Insanity difficulty. I need to break a bit before ME3.

Oh, man. Majora's Mask is fantastic.

I'm currently stuck on Minecraft atm.

This is why parents have children.

No argument there.
I can see my daughter and me playing video games and watching cartoons together when she's old enough.

Well I never did manage to get a unicorn from horse breeding with mo'creatures, but i've gotten pretty good at strip mining in general, which means lots of ores to get started with

My daughter will sit down in the computer chair, play her educational games, then call out "Log in to Dungeons & Dragons, and kill some kobolds."

However, I'm teaching her to tabletop. It's learning math skills...yeah.

I'm totally teaching my kids to tabletop. I am hoping by that point in human history explaining to them how much of a satan worshiper you are considered for playing DnD was an actual thing in the past, and not a thing at current. :p
