  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

18 deaths is significant, but not enough to trace it to the act of vaping itself. In fact, the studies actually suggest that the deaths have to do with the solvent used to produce knockoff THC cartridges primarily in China, not the common vape juices used by most American vapers. It’s probably not a good idea to be vaping anyway, but this media scaremongering is really misrepresenting the issue.

Some of the e-cig flavors are crazy. Cinnamon anyone? That's a guaranteed lung irritant. Anything with butter flavor is also quite stupid to be inhaling.

But, on the whole it's safer than smoking. Kids shouldn't be doing it, though.

I looked at the Mayo Clinic online resource re this, and realized if you wanted to know you could do the same. To mind mind its highly addictive nature is harmful in itself.

Nicotine isn't highly addictive in itself. Tobacco contains other alkaloids besides nicotine that contribute to the addiction, plus there is actually the ritual of smoking itself that people become addicted to, and that's part of what e-cigs were designed to address.

E-cigs are a relatively poor way to absorb nicotine, anyways. Absorbtion rates are slow, on the order of 5 minutes or longer, about the same as oral use of tobacco (smokeless tobacco), and e-cig vapor is a relatively inefficient way to absorb nicotine. That means it's intrinsically less rewarding than the freebased hit of nicotine you get in a cigarette, which only takes seconds to get to your brain.

It's like drinking... nobody should be taking up drinking wine for the health benefits, if they don't drink already. Wine is not a super food, nor is it perfectly safe, and it is potentially addicting as well. But if people drink, they should drink in moderation. That's called harm reduction, and it's the approach most medical professionals take to the issue.

I am an ex-smoker, I smoked pipes and cigarettes in college and then I quit afterwards. And I used to vape. I actually quit smoking with Swedish snus, but I did try vaping. It was a pretty lousy way to actually absorb nicotine, to be honest. The only one that I thought was comparable to a real cigarette was NJoy, and that didn't make much actual vapor, but it did have e-liquid with quite high levels of nicotine.

E-cig e-juice generally doesn't give you the same kind of buzz as tobacco at all. It doesn't have nornicotine which gives you a sort of "stoned" sensation that real tobacco does, so it's less rewarding. All those other alkaloids in tobacco may actually be more addicting than nicotine itself.

To me it sounds terrible. The physical compulsion to keep buying a product. The need that nags and nags at you.

Nicotine isn't a physical compulsion. Nobody dies if they go without nicotine. That's not true with all drugs, BTW. Alcoholics can die if they don't have supervised withdrawl, and heroin addicts can experience severe medical complications as well.
