You really can't be socialist and fascist. They oppose each other. Socialism aims to give people power over the state, and fascism state over the people.

Hitler clearly believed a strong state was more important than it's citizens, that class determined your importance. Industry was given priority over citizenry, and citizens merely existed to serve the state and it's industry. A strong state was of the utmost importance, even at the expense of it's citizens. Sounds familiar, right?

A fascist believes a baker must bake the cake. So does a leftist. I conservative believes the baker should be free to chose whom he serves.

Generally, I agree with you, but Hitler's germany is a unique case in that "socialist" was actually in their name, and they were attempting to offer a "type" of socialism, though, at the end of the day, they really liked Mussolini's fascism and were actually already adapting it heavily.

Technically, a "leftist" is whatever the person using the word means when they say it.

When I say leftist, I mean progressive liberals in the US. They are a mixed bag of fascists, socialists, communists, etc., who put the state and group rights over the rights of the individual citizen. And that fits into the latter part of your comment above.

The darker part of my mind hopes that if things go wrong, someone you care about is caught in the crossfire and you remember all the cha-chinging you did leading up to it.

I tend to suppress that part, but sometimes it just sneaks out.

See? When I think of the destruction and murder being committed due to Obama, the democrats and their supporters giving all that money and support to the likes of Iran and NK... It makes me feel empathy and sorrow towards innocent lives(including people close to you LoAmmi) being hurt as a result of that foolishness. However, I do recognize that if I were still not a Christian I might feel differently.

I guess what I’m saying is this is just one more reason why you need to allow Messiah Jesus into your heart. He can do the things you can’t. Like suppressing evil thoughts and desires. And even when we fail and let them ‘sneak out’ He’s willing to take the consequence when we repent.

BTW, I do believe a country can be both fascist and socialist. The country can own much of the industry while allowing private, but highly regulated industry at the same time.

I consider the US to be a fascist nation through it's heavy regulation of the individual. A perfect example is the minimum wage. Also, forcing the baking of the cake. Another example would be regulation of incandescent light bulbs and toilet water capacity.
