...who will be the next Secretary of Defense?
Esper says he opposes use of Insurrection Act, which would allow regular military to perform law enforcement duties.
Esper's announcement follows a resignation by James N. Miller from the Defense Science Board....in his letter to Epsy he noted:
As a concerned citizen, and as a former senior defense official who cares deeply about the military, I urge you to consider closely both your future actions and your future words. For example, some could interpret literally your suggestion to the nation’s governors Monday that they need to “dominate the battlespace.” I cannot believe that you see the United States as a “battlespace,” or that you believe our citizens must be “dominated.” Such language sends an extremely dangerous signal.
You have made life-and-death decisions in combat overseas; soon you may be asked to make life-and-death decisions about using the military on American streets and against Americans. Where will you draw the line, and when will you draw it?

I think Trump meant "dominate" the situation.
..eh. Seems his Secretary of Defense had a different understanding.

Riots, curfews, martial law, runaway pandemic.
There really are no words.

Federal law enforcement officers have been using unmarked vehicles to drive around downtown Portland and detain protesters since at least July 14. Personal accounts and multiple videos posted online show the officers driving up to people, detaining individuals with no explanation of why they are being arrested, and driving off.
...
But interviews conducted by OPB show officers are also detaining people on Portland streets who aren’t near federal property, nor is it clear that all of the people being arrested have engaged in criminal activity.
Is this America or Russia?
This is going to get ugly IMO. How long before militia groups start grabbing and harming or killing protesters or citizen? This is a dangerous precedent and needs to end now.

Another article, references WAPO reporting, but since it's daily kos the commentary is a bit biased.
.What Trump is doing in Portland is terrifying, and it's coming soon to a town near you

Or the police grab a federal agent for looking like a criminal. No ID, grabbing people. Sounds suspicious to me.I’m wondering the opposite. How long until federal marshalls grab a militia member? The militia will freak out and start firing upon the federal marshalls. At least the protesters tend to not be heavily armed. Militia groups are. This can very quickly escalate.
