Hi Abigail,

I know how you feel. Although I'm a male in my mid-40s, my parents won't be around for much longer. Been single for too long. I'd lucky if I can get a date a couple of times per year. lol. Must be my area...as it's mostly retirees and married people. In the city nearby, the ladies are kind of shallow.

I don't have other family I can spend time with,k I mean I do so biologically, but they are doing their own thing with their own families, so we were never that close.

So my parents are the only family I had...I sometimes dread loneliness after they both go, but I don't want to be in that situation, get too desperate and marry anyone just for the sake of not being alone...then I'd even be in a worse situation. :p

But seriously, I'm marriage-minded and want someone to grow old with.

Sadly, I've been coming across women that simply don't want to date, have a boyfriend, not even a husband.

People ask me, "Why are you still single?" and I say, "I meet the above" lol

Yeah, same here, both my parents live with me, Im the sole provider, but there are days I feel lonely at the thought of them leaving to be with the Lord while I have no one. Although I think Im over panicking, i have friends, but it just seems like they are all busy with their lives, majority are married, sometimes it is so difficult to relate with them, but maybe it is just here in the west, other countries seem to be more single friendly i hope... mayb ill pack migrate elsewhere or buy a house and befriend the neighborhood and be remembered as the nice old lady with a shotgun, cats, and cupcakes, and kids will call me "Grammy"

I can definitely related to being tired of being single, having recently hit another stumbling block in trying to get a slightly complicated situation established, so I'm trying to put a positive spin on things.

I'm in decent health with no major problems, and I have a job that I like which pays me well enough that all my bills are covered, my only debt is a mortgage, I'm able to put away enough each month that it looks like I'll be able to retire comfortably, and I still have enough disposable income left to be able to pursue my hobbies. So given all that, as much as I would dearly love to be in a relationship, if the worst problem facing me right now is that I'm single, then I'm actually in a pretty good place in my life right now, all things considered.

Funny thing, I've heard women, who were once married, actually say "I miss being married".

Never heard a person actually say that aloud. lol

You know, I don't really share the same sentiment as others who are content in being single. I am not really that content in that.

I think others cannot relate to me as it's been over a decade since I've been in a relationship with any woman. Been on a few dates here and there, more online meets if anything. Not much beyond that.

I had a couple of short-lived dating situations, that didn't amount to a hill of beans and those were almost 3 years apart.

I think my lack of contentment is to the the long dry spells and lack of intimacy with women due to these long dry spells. I think this is also a burden because if women find this out, it's unattractive.

Im still praying for my boaz. But life still feels lonely. What does everyone here do when they just get tired of being single?

Not a lot of Boazes out there, sadly. Mostly just average guys.

I guess they want a rich man instead of love?

Yeah, never understood why these articles that reference this portion of the Bible....and it's kind of geared toward the favor of the women. I keep getting sick of seeing, "Ruth, looking for my BOAZ" in their dating profiles. lol

Really?

That's hardly reliable.

Actually, Jewish history is fairly reliable. Especially since the story of Ruth is a Jewish story.

But have you read it. Ruth does whatever her MIL tells her to do so that they can survive as two widows. In the end, she sends Ruth to sneak into the place where Boaz sleeps and go to sleep at his feet with him. That is the first time he really takes note of her (most likely because of the age gap) other than noting her gleaning in his field that one time. He then makes sure that the family member closer in relationship to her doesn't want to marry her before he buys Naomi's land so he can marry Ruth. She nevers says she loves him. She never hints that she loves him. She just obeys Naomi on her "how to catch a rich Jewish husband" scheme. He is simply grateful that she is interested in him (probably because he is old and she is not). A practical marriage. No declarations of love. And like I said, tradition says he was around 80 and died the day their son was born.

I'm much more like Enoch or the mysterious "beloved disciple". Guess I'm doomed to remain single!

aw. no you're not. Listen, part of what made Joseph so wonderful is how he is like the two you mentioned. I mean, God isn't going to pick just anyone to parent His Son for Him? Joseph was worthy because of his faith and obedience which comes from loving the Lord. These good, solid, biblical characters loved God and had huge faith.

Actually, Jewish history is fairly reliable. Especially since the story of Ruth is a Jewish story.

Actually, Jewish extra-Biblical traditions which were first written down in the Middle Ages (more than 2,000 years after the event) are not particularly reliable.

That is the first time he really takes note of her

Not so (see Ruth 2:5).

He then makes sure that the family member closer in relationship to her doesn't want to marry her before he buys Naomi's land so he can marry Ruth.

He works quite hard, actually, to set up a situation where he's the one marrying Ruth.

And like I said, tradition says he was around 80 and died the day their son was born.

You can believe that if you like.
