Jesus's appearance - as Messiah - is what "confirmed the covenant". His disciples being witnesses to His diety furthered the confirmation....in Jerusalem for the remaining 3.5 years after His ascension. The witness of the gift of the Holy Spirit further testified that Jesus was God....continuing the confirmation.
Tben....in God's perfect timing....Peter had a vision to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles (after the 490 years were completed). Jesus fulfilled the confirmation of the covenant promises. There was no reason for Him to instruct anyone.
We're still waiting for any Scriptural support for the assertion that the antichrist is involved in confirming God's covenant promises (specifically the already broken Mosaic Covenant and - as the author of Hebrews wrote - that covenant disappeared and a far superior covenant is in its place).
That is all fanciful and spiritualizing passages.
Confirmation?
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
1. God created grammar so we can understand each other and people who wrote things.
2. The "he" of verse 27 must go back to its nearest antecedent which is the ruler of the people who will destroy the sanctuary (Rome) So he is a roman ruler.
3. He confirms a covenant for 1 7 (we know it 7 years). Jesus never made nor confirmed a covenant for 7 years!
4. Jesus did not cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease. He cause the covering of sin by the sacrifices to cease- but the sacrifices continued! It does not mean the effectiveness of the sacrifices but that after 3 1/2 years of that 7 year covenant- sacrifices cease! This follows exactly with Matt. 24 which is the abomination of desolation in the holy place!
5. Jesus even said when you see the one mentioned here in Daniel 9 26b-27 stand in the holy place. Jesus is not the one who for the overspreading of abominations he will make it desolate!
6. All this and the 36 names given to the "antichrist" throughout the rest of scripture let us know this is the antichrist!
7.Even revelation says that Israel flees for 42 months! 3 1/2 years or halfway through the 70th week of Daniel!
24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
8. Daniels people (all Israel) and Jerusalem have not finished THE transgression, they haven't made an end of sins, they have not reconciled iniquity, everlasting righteousness has not been brought in to Israel and Jerusalem, vision and prophecy is not sealed, and Jesus has not been anointed yet as He will be!
