.....knowing now what we know of Jesus's ministry - especially His death & resurrection - some of us can see how what was promised to Daniel was the New Covenant:
The error is...

your and otheres interpretation of what is the covenant is in Daniel 9:27 is. And what the confirmation of the covenant for 7 years is referring to regarding that covenant.

Jesus never gave any instruction to confirm the gospel of the kingdom, gospel of salvation for 7 years, or a 7 year cycle.

differently Moses did in Deuteronomy 31:9-13.

Jesus never gave any instruction to confirm the gospel of the kingdom,

Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Mat 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

You overlooked Daniel 9:25. I've included it below.

Isaiah 9
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Daniel 9
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Revelation 1
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.

unmistakably
[ˌənməˈstākəblē]
ADVERB
unmistakably (adverb)
  1. in a way that cannot be mistaken for anything else.
"I saw her there, clearly and unmistakably" · "the music sounds unmistakably English"

And because it worked that time, it will happen again, and they will flee again, at the dividing point of the future 70th week.

Yes, it worked that time.

Could other portions of the chapter have worked that time as well?

Daniel's prophecy foretold of Jesus, the Messiah. Jesus fulfilled that prophecy (as most Christians believe). Why would Jesus give instruction on something He fulfilled?

Jesus did not give instructions to confirm the gospel on a seven year cycle.

Moses did regarding the Mt. Sinai covenant. And the Mt. Sinai covenant is referred to by Daniel in his prayer in Daniel 9

It is that simple.

No one here is disagreeing that Jesus was the messiah cutoff. The disagreement is over who is the prince who shall come, who will confirm what covenant for seven years, and then in the middle of the seven stop the daily sacrifice and make the temple desolate for the remainder of the 70th week.

_________________________________________________________

Where it becomes un-simple is when Covenant Theology and New Covenant Theology began convoluting it by innovations involving Stephen, introducing Jesus's baptism by John in the wilderness, and citing numerous scriptures of what the new covenant is - as though no one knows what the new covenant is.

It then becomes one great big quagmire of misinterpretation.

Your examples of the "great big quagmire of misinterpretation" prior to the 19th century.

Names, dates, sources, quotes.

Just take a look at what posters claim that the one who confirms the covenant for 7 years is Jesus, who they are affiliated with - they are covenant theology and new covenant theology.

Matthew Henry commentary, around 1700.

Jesus never gave instructions to confirm the gospel of the kingdom of heaven for 7 years.

How do you know that? Were you there when He gave the instructions to His disciples?

Do you deny that based on Matthew 10:5-7 He instructed that the Gospel be taken to Israel?

Does Romans 1:16 say the Gospel was taken "first" to Israel?
When did that occur?
Should that amount of time be taken off of your 7 years?

Does Galatians 1:14-18 confirm that Paul did not take the Gospel to the Gentiles until about 3 years after his conversion?

And you are promoting your own interpretation of Daniel 9:27 without providing any other Bible scholar who agrees with you.
What is wrong with this picture?

The following is from the notes of the 1599 Geneva Bible, which is the Bible the Pilgrims brought to America.
What was their understanding of the passage over 400 years ago?
This destroys your claim that the New Covenant understanding of Daniel 9:27 is a new concept.

Dan 9:27 And he shal confirme the couenant with many for one weeke: and in the middes of the weeke he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the ouerspreading of the abominations, he shall make it desolate, euen vntill the consummation determined shalbe powred vpon the desolate.

Daniel 9:27
And he (a) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to (b) cease, (c) and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make [it] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

(a) By the preaching of the Gospel he affirmed his promise, first to the Jews, and after to the Gentiles.

(b) Christ accomplished this by his death and resurrection.

(c) Meaning that Jerusalem and the sanctuary would be utterly destroyed because of their rebellion against God, and their idolatry: or as some read, that the plague will be so great, that they will all be astonished at them.

Because none of the apostles repeated Jesus of having said such a thing. And that there is no tradition in Christianity to confirm the new covenant on a 7 year cycle. And there is no instructions on how to do it.

You are quoting "footnotes". Someone's interpretation.

"(b) Christ accomplished this by his death and resurrection."

The resurrection is not mentioned in Daniel 9.

If there was a "quagmire", there must have been others who disagreed with Henry, before the 19th century. Who were they?

Names, dates sources, quotes.

But if you acknowledge that the quagmire appeared in the 19th century, I'd agree.

Jesus did not give instructions to confirm the gospel on a seven year cycle
Jesus's appearance - as Messiah - is what "confirmed the covenant". His disciples being witnesses to His diety furthered the confirmation....in Jerusalem for the remaining 3.5 years after His ascension. The witness of the gift of the Holy Spirit further testified that Jesus was God....continuing the confirmation.

Then....in God's perfect timing....Peter had a vision from the Lord to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles (after the 490 years were completed). Jesus fulfilled the confirmation of the covenant promises. There was no reason for Him to instruct anyone.

We're still waiting for any Scriptural support for the assertion that the antichrist is involved in confirming God's covenant promises (specifically the already broken Mosaic Covenant and - as the author of Hebrews wrote - that covenant disappeared and a far superior covenant is in its place).
